For some reason little kids like to put things in their nose and ears. My daughter put some crayon wrappers in her ear when she was about 5 or 6. I thought it was dried crumpled up leaves. The Dr washed it out at his office and she never put any thing in her ears or nose again. It seams to me that the Dr could have flushed out the object with warm water if he could see the object.

I've had splinters of various kinds under fingernails several times and they are very hard to get out since they usually break easily and you have to dig them out with a pin or needle. Then of course there is stepping on nails and such but they are usually easy to get but just really hurt a lot.

hi doormouse yes my little girl stuck a bean up her nose, but with the aid of a flashlight and a pair of tweezers I got the bean out before the moisture in her nose could make it swell. I once was startled when I was working as a nurses aide while writing something down using a very sharp pencil. I spun around' and jabbed the end of the pencil into my little finger. I pulled out the pencil but the end of the lead broke off deep inside my'finger. For years I carried that little black thing in my finger until it was at last absorbed. for awhile it was really painful too.

My youngest is 3.5 so really old enough to know better but two weeks ago she stuck a bead up her nose, thankfully while it was small enough to fit up it was too big for her to really shove it right up so I managed to pop it out again by pressing the side of her nose, my eldest is rather good actually she has never stuck anything where it shouldnt be, theyve had their share of accidents and a&e visits though thats for sure

I can not understand why it is children are always sticking things up their noses or in the case of your neighbor's child, an ear. It just seems crazy to me.

Well, i remember when we were kids my brother stuck a match stick in his ear. Good thing my mother was able to pull it out. Few days after we noticed that his nose smells awful. When we inspected his nose, we saw a seed of a bean inside and he said that its' been there for four days already. My brother was about 5 years old at that time.

Hi TrippleJazzm, Reading your post made me remember my cousin who was operated for having a bean inside his nose. Nobody knew about this until his parents smell something bad from his nose. It was only during the check up that it was found out that my cousin has a bean seed inside and the doctor said that it's been there for a long time that's why his nose was already infected. During that time, the hospital was not equipped with advanced equipment for cases like that-- it took them awhile in taking the bean seed out and it was a bloody process. My cousin was shouting for pain.

they only thing i have ever had stuck is a few thumb tacks in my heel, and maybe a nail once. i little bit painful but not too bad my brother in law though, was doing the washing up and dropped a kitchen knife, ne jumped due to the shock and when he came down, the knife had bounced and came up through the bottom of his foot and out the top. his mum passed out and when the ambulance came, they gave her the oxygen.

I personally don't recall sticking something into my ear or nose or anywhere when I was young. At most I just stuck stickers all over my closet wall LOL! I was actually afraid of getting something into my ear, like a bug, so I would sleep with a pillow covering my ear. But I did have a classmate in elementary that got a broken crayon stuck in his nose. It was just a tiny tiny piece of a scented crayon and he tried to smell it and accidentally inhaled it. He had to go to the nurse to get it out.

That is typical behavior of children they seem to want to stick things in their noses and ears. It is lucky it was found right away because something like that can cause complications if left unattended. I am sure when she grows up it will be an incident they can laugh about however right now it is probably not very funny.

I'm so sorry for laughing, as this is truly not funny, but...I don't think I've ever known a child who didn't stick something in the ear or nose, not one lol. Each of my daughters did, one a piece of corn in her nose, another a tiny toy in her ear, and the third a dime in the nose. I remember sticking a paper match up my nose when I was little. Thank God for emergency room doctors and their special tools to reach these things when a parent cannot! Karen

I had to take my son to hospital as he had put a tooth in his ear, which had came out of his mouth.I took him to the hospita where two nurses and a doctor removed it with a tool that they put into his ear. This hurt my son them getting it out,so he never done that again. My daughter that was 14 swollowed a two pound coin whilst messing about had to have an operation to remove it from her throat. So i do not think it matters what age they are they still do silly things.

I was exposed in working in a clinic and there were so many related cases concerning kids with a bean, beads, coin, inside their nose and ears. I pitied them as they suffered the pain during the process of taking it out. Kids are just so curious to explore everything without knowing the consequences of their "cute" actions. My experience when i was a kids was an ant went inside my ear and could not come out. It was so painful. My parents brought me to the hospital and the ENT took it out.

The most important thing is to keep an eye on our children and teach them the importance of safety. Since they were young, I tell them the importance of home safety by readidng story books on home safety. It really helps. In addition, when things happen, we quickly send them for medical help. We pray for the safety awareness of our children and other children in the world. We also pray for God's protection for the children when we have done our best. Sylvia

I didn't and neither have my kids. One of my younger brothers stuck a crayon in his ear and had to have the doctor remove it. I was little and don't remember if it was done at the doctor's office or the hospital. Big kids sometimes do that sort of thing as well. In college one of the girls was joking around and put a big blueberry in her nostril as a joke. Someone made her laugh and she snorted it. Had to go to the doctor to have it taken out.
