What do you mostly spend money on?

I'm now creating my personal budget and trying to trace where most of my income or money goes. Unsurprisingly, it's in food. I don't really eat all the time nor do I tend to just eat up anything or go to restaurants. In fact, I rarely go to restaurants nor do I treat myself with food. But I guess food prices are just higher than most commodities and we can't do away with eating even for just a day. So there it is, mine is mostly on food, next would be the basic necessities like gas money and medicines. How about you?

I tend to spend alot of money on food every week and it seems that all the shopping do is it keeps going up.The other main bill is the electric that has doubled in less than a year so i have been using a linen line as well as chairs to hang my linen over to get it dry rather than a tumble dryer. The other things i tend to do is buy bulk every now and again as that way it saves money in the long run, even if it is a few pence.

If i get the chance i buy larger packets as in buy in bulk, which make the shopping abit cheaper in the long run.A friend of mine waters her milk down to make it go abit further.

Mostly my expenses are taking its turn with beauty products and blouses. I have a strong affinity with blouses that it is very hard to resist if I can spot new arrivals at the shopping mall. Then beauty products are another weaknesses of mine, I don't care if it is very expensive as long as it can make me super gorgeous.lol!

Hehehe.. I know exactly how you feel, I was hooked on beauty products before too, but found that skin care is better! hehehe.. You don't need a lot of make up to make you look super gorgeous, it would be more flattering to be called beautiful even without make up on! Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

hi there laydee! whatever i earn in a month, I amke sure I keep about 25-30% in the bank and forget i kept money in there..that's my way of making sure my money grows, and is safe, and i never get to touch it. whatever is left, i make sure i pay the bills including the internet...then i do my gorceries in bulk (i do it once or twice in a month)...... my company pays me every monday so it is a good thing for me coz I get to budget my money really well... I have to say the extra earnings we get from sites like mylot, etc...does help add up... so it's basically bills and food.......... then i give my son money for school everyday... I pay the babysitter monthly salary to help me watch over my 2 year-old while im busy with work... then whatever extra i have, i use that to buy the kids what they want... tous for my 2-year old... electronics for my 14-year old... we dine out abut once or twice a week too... or sometimes i take out coz it saves me time... i could make ends meet i guess... a lttle while back it seems i could make the most of my money...

Most of our budget has been going to our electric bill. The weather has been so cold lately that we need heat. After our bill has been over 300.00 I sit in my house with the heat off during the day. It is an aweful way to live since I am always getting sick. My husband only works part time (because of the economy, or at least that is what he is told, because his boss hired two new people full-time). I too have noticed that food prices have gone up quite a bit. I wish they would come down slightly. My husband and I are only eating one meal a day just to cut back on spending.

Oh my gosh, that's sad. Are you sure you're only eating one meal a day? What happens the rest of the day?? Indeed the economy isn't doing good at all, same with the bills. I hope prices would just go down for once in our lives. We'd be freed from all the hard work and just live life being happy. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Hmmm... I am wondering how great a cook your wife is! She would be so amazing-a-cook if you'd rather spend time eating her dishes rather than the restaurant! hehe.. Indeed you're so lucky! Have a great mylot experience ahead! Thanks for sharing!

first of all i'd like to applaud you for i believe your money is on the right track. ever get confused with the varying techniques or ways of budgeting? i was till i realized the very basic thing i learned in school: food, shelter and clothing. everything else falls under one of these three. if you come to think of it the arrangement of these three basic needs do make sense . we all need nourishment to survive and if renting is the only way you can afford shelter so be it and if there is an excess perhaps a pretty piece of clothing or two would do to reward yourself with something you did absolutely right throughout the last two weeks prior to that paycheck, right ?

Though it may seem that it's on the right track. I don't think it is, I still don't see anything in the end because most of the money I earned would just go quickly and the by the end of the month, I am living in poverty. I want someday to have savings as well. I want to have a regular savings so that I would have something when I'm older to at least take care of my family in times of need and so that I could have something to use when financials are on shortage. Not to mention I'm getting older and I need to do something about my finances ASAP! I do reward myself but sometimes I think I'm rewarding myself too much with something that wouldn't last like food, stuff, and such. I would like to reward myself with security for the future and my family as well. Thank you for your response and have a great MyLot experience ahead!

What I mostly splurge on is the groceries. I want to go out and do some groceries. Sometimes I do eat out and I love having foods in the ref.

hi laydee^^;; i also spend mostly on food. as much as possible i don't like to be starving. i buy as many food during weekends which is mostly fruit and veggies and meat. i do eat in the restaurants 3-8times a months depending on how often i would go out. i indulge myself on food more than any other things. there are times that i overspend but i know it's for my health and not other unnecessary things. sometimes i spend much on riding taxi specially on rainy seasons

I think most of us do spend a lot in food. I am guilty of that myself too. I just sometimes wish we could just stop eating and be okay with it. hehe.. Indeed, I hate working during the rainy season too, I tend to need to spend a few more for taxis too. Whew! Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

I spend the most on paying off my debt. Medical bills and credit cards have seriously put me in the hole, and I want to get it paid off ASAP.

It has been three years since this topic was opened, I do hope that you're on your way to finishing off paying your bills. I think we're all in the same hole and I could certainly feel some days that working isn't worth anything anymore because most of the money is just to pay off something that has been long gone or used. I just hope that there was a glitch in the system somewhere and all our debts would be cleared! hehe.. Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

I would say food's a first for me too! I admit I really love eating. Haha. Well, budgeting for a student like me is quite hard, especially that I buy my own food and other necessities. Not to mention that I also save for the endless school payments. If there's still money left I try to treat myself once in a while like buying a new bag or something. Somehow, I manage to get away with it. Take care! :)

I think nobody would dare say that they don't love to eat! I think majority would let go of themselves if they had the resources and the freedom to eat anything in the world! hehehehe.. I used to dream about food as well! It was fantastic but when I wake up, I realize that it's dangerous! hahahhahaa.. It's good to treat oneself, but I think the best treating would be to allow yourself to be happy with what you're doing and allowing yourself to know that you don't need to work forever. Thank you for the response. How are you doing with your MyLot? I hope you're still here and active! Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

I try to save as much as I can. In the moment times aren't easy and it is better to put some money aside in case things get worse before they get better. Most of my money would probably go on food, then on petrol. The rest is for saving or studying or leisure.

Wow! It's good that you are thinking of savings as well. I think savings play a very important role in our lives and we need to give it much attention before we grow old and have no more time to save up! Anyhow, as for food, I think most of us have the same. We are all lovers of food and most of our expenses goes to our stomach. Hehehehe.. I think the world would be a fatter place if we'd let ourselves go with this one. hehehe.. Thank you for your response and have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Mine is surprisingly not food. I spend most of my money on gasoline and other vehicle expenses, not counting tuition. But after that it seems to be Christmas presents.

i think spend most of my money on clothes and stuff for my dog or things for my camera. I don't like going out to eat or anything so that saves me money. i try and save most of it but i like spending it too. i spend more when i have a job as i have money coming in but right now no work so i am watching what i spend and being careful.

I spend most of my money on food and computer accessories. Mostly I would spend my money on buying Ice cream, bread and all those delicious foods. Then I would spend my money sometimes buying blank CDs, headphones, and other computer stuff.

In my household our biggest expense of the month is the rent, which comes out of my husbands paycheck. Currently I am unemployed after having been laid off, so I pay for the food out of my unemployment benefit. I have had to work out how to live on a much smaller amount with food until I get another job but it really is amazing how much money you can save if you really look around for sales and things that last a long time, like bags of rice, etc. I am trying to shop well within our means, as well as looking for a job, so that we can eventually get out of that check to check 'living on the edge' feeling! I hope the habits I am developing now ill stay after I get a job too, so we can continue to pay off our debts more quickly. I am trying to plan and budget and track what I am spending a lot more now too.

That I must agree with you. Most of our budget goes on food. Since most of the food prices now are higher than before. Unlike maybe to other countries that their food prices are really cheaper and also they could have coupon cards from magazines which they could use as discount card for shopping. But here in our country it is impossible. how food prices raise up so rapidly. that is why about 3/4 of our money goes to that area.
