how does one use the "extra" little #s on one's keyboard to use special symbols?

[b]I've found a few, but if there's any website that shows all the possibilities, I'd really like to bookmark it! I'm especially interested in the number which allows one to "line through" anything one has typed, in order to express visually that there was an error made, & the other one I'd love to have is the number which produces a Christan cross. Whatever else I get would be gravy, although the ability to make a tilde over an N would be nice to have when I use Spanish, or umlauts when I use German! So, does anyone know? Please share!
