On the Lilian Jackson Braun message board, someone posted a question about making movies from her books and.... Steven Spielburg posts on 10/31/2009 3:01:54 PM I have bought the rights to the books and will begin production on a movie next year. How much more AWESOME could that be? Spielburg!!! One of my FAVORITE directors is going to do the books!!!! I'm so EXCITED!!! Anyone else love these books and want to see movies made from them? Who would you cast as Qwill?

That's just so cool. I don't know about this book you are saying, but when I saw the name Steven Spielberg, it really made me look totally. He is a genius and if he wants to make a book into a movie, wow...I can't wait.

This is so cool, really, I'm glad you are happy but I havo no idea about what are you talking about. But, if this character you are talking about is a girls, I would probably cast scarlet.

No, Qwill is a middle aged man with a mustache, but not a real athletic type so the Tom Sellic's of the world wouldn't work

I beg to differ... Qwill rides a bike and walks around town, rather than drive.

I always got the impression that Qwill's 'stache was salt-n-pepper, which would make Selleck's perfect.

I have only read a couple of her books in the past, and it has been a while ago since I done so, but she does have some interesting Books, and with the plans on Spielburg offering to help turn her books into movies this will help in the Sale of her books as well. This is quite exciting and I cannot wait to see what he does with them.

I love these books, and I pretty much love most of what Spielburg does with movies so I think he'll do a good job

Her early books are the best. The later ones get a bit repetitive and "thin" and she seems to kill off characters too easily for no good reason.

hi oh my goodness what a movie that will be and with my favorite character old Quill , I have always loved Braun's the Cat Who series and I think I have read all of them that she wrote. Lets see he has to be tall and really good looking with silvery hair and that handsome mustache. oH my mind is a blank as all I can think of old has been actors and he has to be fairly modern. I have not been to many movies lately. I thought of Sean Connery but he is getting on in years.Sorry I cannot come up with someone newer.

yeah, Connery's too old now, and he's Scottish/British humm, Hugh Laurie does a good American accent... Wonder if we can bet past him as House...?

Well, in MY book, Qwill would HAVE to be Tom Selleck. He has the perfect mustache for the character as well as the voice quality I've always imagined while reading it plus the casual but magnetic way with women even when he's not trying, also ala Qwill. I wonder, though, if the real Mr. Spielburg would post on such a site or if someone using his name did. I'd hate to think hopes would get up over a hoax. I don't know that the series could be done as several movies, unless they send them right to video like the Olson twins did. Loyal fans will definitely rent them. The last three books, though, have not been top notch - they're almost "thrown" together with no cohesiveness and events mentioned but never pursued within the story. I've been disappointed, so I'm wondering if someone else is writing them based on her notes. She's got to be up there in age, don't you think?

says she was born in 1913 Most people agree about the last 3 not being great - but really I would have to say I read them more for the annual visit to Moose County than the mystery anyway! I agree about hoping that Spielburg really wrote the message, but I'd guess that someone on his staff watches sites like that and they are big sellers. I'm just not a big Selleck fan - Magnum did nothing for me and finding out that he was to be the original Indiana Jones made me thrilled he took a pass on the role.

Actually, I am pretty curious how Mr. Spielberg is going to arrange this movie.. would be very interesting. Qwill's audition will be a long line with talented actors, that's for sure..

Look them up and enjoy! They are nice little mysteries - start with The Cat Who Could Read Backwards.

I reckon Hervey Keitel would make a great Qwilleran. Somehow though, I'm unable to see Spielburg directing a simple, or complex for that matter, murder mystery.

Yes, he can do a big moustache...a little padding round the middle and he'd be great. Who would you pick?

I figure more that he might be producing it - that means paying for the movie to be made. Probably he's got the rights, then will shop for a studio and probably some other company to help it be put out. You know, how it is, MGM, Walden Productions and Spyglass Productions put out "Such and Such Movie"...

I don't know... Rock Hudson when he was doing MacMillan and Wife would have been good, but he's not still in the here and now. Hal Linden would have been a good choice, too, except he'd be too old now. Tom Selleck? Again, too old. Probably an unknown.

I've actually heard Tom Selleck mentioned, but since I really haven't seen him since he did that TV show, I don't know what he looks like now

I agree that the later books haven't been as good as the early ones. And I think after she killed Iris Cobb she got so much uproar that she stopped killing off "regulars"
