And they loved it. Ten minutes after I was done putting it together my little Carlye was on it and purring away. Have you ever bought something expensive for your cats and they hated it--and you feel like you wasted you money? What is the best thing you ever bought or found for your cats? Share your stories.

um..i bought them this scratching post-it looked like a cheese with a mouse head on top..and it had a ball in the cheese they could reach in and play with.. gee, just listening to that,i guess it was a stupid concept even by cat terms LOL.. but anyway,a cat play center.they HATED it.i think the big mousie head scared them. cat hammock? they pooped in it. however..a big,run of the mill cardboard box..they're all over that. they all want it at the same time. *sigh* bunch of philistines.

I think all cats love cardboard boxes, when I finally get unpacked I am planning to save a couple for my cats to play with.

it's always the tiniest of boxes too. my big black cat loves squeezing in one way too small and ends up looking like a pie with the overhang.

We had given the roomie's folks a scratching post for their cat when he was a kitten, and he managed to finally tear it up so bad that it needed replacing. Well, as great a post as that was, we couldn't fine one like it again. So we got something called a "curve" I think. Looked like an "S" on its side with scratching area on the top of the curve and carpet on the rest. At first he avoided it like the plague, wouldn't have anything to do with it. Her dad is one of those - "he won't touch it, take it back" types that doesn't understand that cats often have to get used to new things, especially a cat like his, that still is showing some of his feral background. Now he loves it. I also got a little drum type scratcher that the cat just loves to sleep on. Of course, he's favorite toy is his "dad" and his next favorite toy is his dog.

I need trees that a number of cats can enjoy at the same time - because I have so many cats...

Yes I did that last year. I thought I was getting a real treat for my two "deprived" cats LOL---they never had one of those cat condo things so bought one...wasn't TOO expensive but not exactly cheap either...I assembled it and it looked really nice...have they ever used it...nope...I should have learned long time ago, my cats are happiest in a paper bag to play with..

my cat enjoys his cat tree i bought him. it is like his condominium with a view because i placed it by my bedroom window. most of the time, he goes lounging in it all day. i bought him the really tall one, about 6 ft because i know he likes to climb and go high places. i always see him sitting on different tiers. even though he is 9 years old, he is still very playful. the only think he hates that i bought him, which wasn't expensive anyway, was an elf pet-suit i bought from Target for $1 or $2. i bought it to do a christmas, with my cat dressed as an elf. i finally go it on him, but he looked pissed and hated it. gave me a hard time until i finally took some photos, which were mediocre. he takes good pictures without clothes. i think dogs are better when you put clothes on them. they are more cooperative. most dont care. they go along with you and have fun with it.

I would never dress my cats like that--they think they have too much dignity for that besides they would have me for it.

My cat didn't like the ball I bought her- she ignored it completely and still does. I think only dogs like balls, I will never buy one for her again. But she loves her little stuffed mice that I pick up for her every now and then. I have to buy them a lot because she is always losing them behind furniture. Once I had to move the stove and found six little toy mice behind it!! My cat's favorite toy is a dangling thing, on a kind of "fishing pole"- it has a wand and a string and a little stuffed mouse on the end. She LOVES it, I can play with her with it for hours. She gets so excited when I dangle it, pouncing and running around the room like a little tiger. She likes to climb on top of her scratching post, on the way top, and leap off. My cat loves to play.

My cats have a similar toy, but it has feathers on the end of the string. They LOVE it. They will chase it around until they are too tired to move and will beg to play with it. I have to keep it on top of the refrigerator so they can't get to it until I'm ready to play with them. They know where it is though and will meow and jump around when I walk to the refrigerator.

I have one with the feathers too and have had to replace the feathers twice!! I keep mine in the closet so they can't see it. I guess some toys are universal even for cats!

I've bought toys for my cats, balls that tinkle, catnip mice, bought "fishing" poles for cats. They didn't like any of them. They totally loved the empty box left on the floor after something was bought. That was good for days of fun! While they wouldn't touch the cat toy that looked like a tiny fishing pole, they loved the horse whip we got at an auction. My daughter would drag that on the patio all day, with cats chasing it and each other, having the time of their lives. If you spend lots of money, they hate it. If they find it, it's fantastic. Sigh.

I guess they are a lot like children. Buy the expensive toy and they want to play with the wrapping paper and box. We do an awful lot for our furbabies.

If it jingles or it has cat nip in it, my cats usually love it. My cat, Lucky, is different. He can turn the most simple things into toys, and my mother and I do not have to buy him many toys. Lucky is quite a funny kitty when it comes to his toys. He took my bathtub plug and turned that into his own toy. It really did not matter since I never take a bath, that I am probably going to replace my bathtub one of these days.
