If you do have this type of pet,do you think that your vet would be able to cope with any problem that may arise with the pet if it was ill?

I have goats. Tulip was a rescue after she was abandoned when her owner left town. She had been attacked by dogs and her leg was broken as well as her ear and tail torn. The leg healed bent backwards...goats use their knees a lot. I asked the vet if it could be fixed and he said it would cost a fortune and the after care would be very difficult. I understood this but I still think the leg could have been fixed...somehow. She manages to use it sometimes even though it won't straighten, she's managed to get some muscle tone back in it.. She limps around and she can run really fast. It's a shame but she seems fine even with her bent leg, bent ear and bent tail.

I found it really strange to hear my little ratties described as "exotics" at our vet. as in "this is an antibiotic that gets very good results in small exotics"
hang on. it's a rat. really not exotic. but that's what they're classified as, apparently. which I found amusing.
I tend to think of exotics as reptiles and spiders and the like. which are rather more complicated than my dear little rodents.
one day I'd love to have a reptile of some description, but it's lack of knowledge of how to care for them right that holds me back.
when I was little I had a tarantula. she was called Pinky. but that's as exotic as my pet owning ever got.

We don't have any exotic pets but we have had afew in the past. Our vet has been in business for probably close to fifty or sixty years and I really have alot of faith in his experience. And, if he didn't know how to care for some exotic pet I feel assured he would know where to refer us.

I used to have a few snakes and one had a burn of some type when i got him so i had to take it to the local vet, when i got there the vet couldnt see me but ust asked me what it looked like etc through his assistant! Of course i asked why this was happening to which the assistant replied "the vet doesnt like snakes". I was quite shocked as i just expected a vet to love all animals and not be scared of any but i suppose if youve got a phobia it cant be helped.
