All the schools where my children go are doing their own bit of fund raising, some children are paying a few pence to dress up rather than wear their scool uniform in school. The other schools are selling cakes to the school children to raise money. The pubs will also be holdind functions to support Children in need.

I take part in fundraisers and I also volunteer. I donate to charities and get my friends to do that, too. I think a little goes a long way. I don't have kids but I try and do what I can to help even just a little.

We don't take such an interest now my kids are older. To be honest, there was a time when we were so poor (just after I broke from their dad) that we had to go begging for food. Did Children in Need help us then - or any other charity for that matter? No! Kinda makes you cynical, in a way. Charity begins at home and all that. Still, my lad wore pink to cycle to college, so raised some sponsorship. We always end up doing, rather than giving - I don't have that much cash to spare.

I'm sorry that you've had such a rough time financially. And I'm sorry that the agencies or organizations that are out there to help a family like yours, didn't pull through. That's a rough place to be. And you know - there are always ways to help out other than money - donate time, etc. Before I had my little girl running around, I used to volunteer all over the place. I especially like playing games at the old folks home... but that's besides the point. lol It does make things seem a little brighter, and its always fun to go out and meet new people! I always had fun at the soup kitchens too! I like sneaking the kids extra cookies :) I wish you and your family well - and hopefully, things will be a little more relaxed for you! God bless!

Yes I do something to help these children. I believe that a child has the right to a good life thru a good education. I support World Vision. For a meager amount I contribute every month, I could send a needy child to school and provide a livelihood program to their community.

I've always been a big supporter of charities that are geared toward children and I am also trying to instill this in my daughter as well. The school that she goes to is a lower income school and many of the kids are unable to buy uniforms and such, so the school gladly accepts uniform clothing that the children have outgrown to pass on to the less fortunate children. So, that is one thing that we do to support other children. We also always try to donate money to the Salvation Army when we have the opportunity as well as other charities that benefit children. I hope that we are never in the situation that we need help, but I'd like to think that if we were, then there would be someone to help us out as well.

Where I used to work in the UK we would all dress up and donate money. There would also be biscuits and cakes for sale. It was only a small company but we would raise a few hundred pounds. I am now in Bulgaria and they don't do children in need here its just a UK thing as far as I know.

I do help support charities for children. Nothing specific, usually outright monetary donations or gifts of needed items like warm winter clothes. I have a soon to be ex stepgrand child that is in need and I buy things for him, often.

There are school fundraisers that help the public school systems by allowing them to buy books and computers as well as other supplies needed. There are candy sales, scholastic book fairs, pictures etc... all depending on the grade level! Of course there are t-shirts and yearbooks as well.

i try and buy fundraiser items when I can - they're so over priced. I recently entered a raffle contest that was benefiting "Relay for Life"... the prize was a back pack filled with pencils and erasers and such... so I won and I donated it to the local "Community Action", which is the foodbank and helps people with filing for welfare and such. I used to help out there and the manager and I get along awesomely... so I always try and help out there when I can. I would personally - when it came down to children or schools in need... actually buy something with a little more purpose than a box of chocolates form a fundraiser that they get to see $2.00 out of every box for. I'd much rather sponser a family to get that child or those children the school supplies they need. Or go to the clearance isle at office depot (if there is one) and buy notebooks and pens and pencils and such and give it to the school. So as far as fundraisers go, no... I don't help out in that sense (unless its a kid I know who really wants that remote control car if he sells so many things)... but I do always try my best to help out in others.

Doling out funds to NGOs is not my way of helping the poor but directly helping them. I started by sponsoring the future of a girl child who stayed with me when she was 13. She completed her schooling as also did some courses but not being a smart kid she could not put any of this knowledge to good use. I took help from her around the house and got her married when the age was right. She is now the mother of a boy and is expecting her second child although her husband has nothing to offer her. I offered to build her a house in the property she has but to my shock I realised that this man was out to grab that money and it is not conducive for me to personally supervise its construction. She is very upset about this but never blames her husband obviously cause he has silenced her as she is a very timid person but have made here say that I have not kept my promise and so she is desparate and might even end her life. I am helpless. After this experience I have decided to help the likes of me who are middle class who need funds. I have a fund that is built for this purpose and have been helping here and there.

Huh! I hope they are not using children for their own interest. there are many kinds of foundation and fundraising organization intended for the purpose of helping those who are in need. and there are also many ways in which school can inculcate the value of charity to the less fortunate. I just hope they choose rightly..
