The party that has called abortion "a fundamental assault on innocent human life”, has provided it's employees health insurance that covers elective abortion for the last 18 years. This came to light when politico used Federal Election Commission records to investigate the issue. What do you think about the party that has fought to make sure that public funds wouldn't be used for abortion, but used donations from their members to pay for insurance that supports abortion.

Saw the news blip too... hypocritical indeed, but are any of us surprised, on EITHER side?

I can't believe it took 18 years to find it out though.

So public funds won't pay for abortions but donations given to the RNC do pay for abortion. That is link that shouldn't apply. They are either for or against abortion. I am pro-life. I wouldn't ever have an abortion.

And the strange part of this is if you donated money to an organization that feels the same way you do, they very well could have sent money to the RNC. Thus, you would be supporting abortion. Kind of crazy isn't it?

It's about the same as how the workers at the DNC aren't unionized. For that matter, the people who work at the union are almost never unionized.

Ted, the difference here is that there are many Democrats that aren't members of a union. I am not a member of a union, but I am a democrat. There are few pro choice republicans.

I can't really say I'm all that surprised. I think it's pretty common for private insurance to cover abortions despite the controversies over it. In fact, I think I heard once that more insurances cover abortions than do birth control. I'm not sure of that one, but it's pretty crazy if it is true. It's a lot of egg on the RNC's face really. As for people who donate to them, well that's their own problem. I may be a republican, but I'd NEVER donate to the RNC. To do that I'd have to support every single candidate with an R next to their name and I'm not one of those morons.

Taskr, I think you are correct about the abortion and birth control numbers. The difference is that many Americans use birth control, and few have abortions. If you have more abortions then people would realize this, and change their policies.

Come on Debater, you don't have to get all pissy when someone asks for a link. Not everyone blindly believes everything posted here without a link. We leave that for people like you.

Haven't you heard this on the news? Or are you only watching the fair and UNbalanced news?

Insurance is not ala carte. Just because it was on their plan does not mean they asked for it. States have mandates and insurance companies do not have a choice. did politico say if these employers requested this benefit?

The RNC has taken steps to remove this from their current policy, so apparently insurance is ala carte. The story points out a part of the policy that has been in place for 18 years. Shouldn't the RNC know what is in their OWN insurance policy, before they want to dictate to the rest of the country what should be in ours?

When I first heard about this I couldn't believe my ears, but then I thought about it and it really wasn't surprising at all! I mean, the RNC leadership being HYPOCRITES...who'd have imagined THAT...lol! When you think about the huge battle going on right now, involving some Democrats also, over the anti-choice movement's determination to block any health care reform bill that allows any insurer that provides coverage for elective abortions to even be available for people to buy with their own money through an exchange, it's as preposterous as it gets! I can't imagine how anyone can possibly try to defend this "oversight" but we both know they will! Annie
