I'm having Thanksgiving at my house this year and have never cooked a turkey before. Can you please help and give me some recipe ideas and general turkey cooking guidelines? Thanks!

Yes, I wrote an article on that a couple of years ago it will tell you everything you know from how to defrost the turkey, to how to cook it, how long to cook it and how heavy of a turkey you should get for how many people. You can find it here. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/345101/how_to_cook_a_turkey.html?cat=6 Instructions on how to Truss a Turkey here: (only if stuffing) http://www.ehow.com/how_5623922_truss-turkey-using-bamboo-skewers.html A good sweet potato recipe: http://www.ehow.com/how_4662842_candy-fresh-sweet-potatoes.html Remember classic Thanksgiving dinners consist of corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey (and possibly ham or another additional meat) stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, some kind of casserole a lot of people make a green bean casserole and of course pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Then you can add what ever you like in addition to make it your own. Best of luck to you.

and rolls or some kind of bread. I use frozen yeast rolls, you have to start set them out to rise in the morning. They are as good as homemade available in the freazer section of the grocery store.

Thanks! You sound like a Thanksgiving pro! I've made a lot of the side dishes before, so I'm not as worried about that. I just don't want to mess up the turkey! Thanks again for the article links! Happy holidays!

I just bake my turkey the old fashion way, clean it out the guts and all that fun stuff, put in homemade stuffing and butter it down, put alumimum foil over it and bake it in the oven for about 4 hours. (depending on size of turkey). I get many of my recipes from my mother, or bettycrocker.com and some other cooking sites. Butterball and just typing in Turkey recipes should give you plenty of recipes. We also have the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, and plenty of desserts. Wish you luck and happy holidays.

Thanks for the input. That sounds easy enough. You have to have all the other stuff too! The turkey may be the main course, but it's not thanksgiving without some yams and mashed potatoes and all the other great stuff. Happy holidays to you too!
