Do You Make Your Cake From Scratch Or Make It From A Box?

I'm planning on having a birthday party for my son's 3rd birthday next weekend although his birthday is on Monday, so I'm going to make him a cake myself to eat on his birthday. I like making a cake from a box because I know I have less of a chance of messing it up. But how about you, do you like to bake from scratch or bake from a box?

Hello singlemommy!! My advise, if you have extra time..bake the cake from scratch...it is more delicious and satisfying. The box is okey, still produce the same result and same taste if your hand is full of other things to do. I like to bake the cake for my terror at home due to buying the ready made cake is more expensive over here.I think some people like to bake from the box because it save a lot of time and less stressful....( if you've 4 kids want to help prepare the cake like me ..hehehehehheee) For me, the important is we mothers prepare it with lots of loves...it will produce the best cake your kids will ever have...

Yes, making it with love is something very special. I do believe as you do that baking from a box is less time and less stress than cooking from scratch. I know it probably won't taste as good as a cake from scratch but I trust that it will still be delicious to us all!

well..do not worry too much dear.. Whatever method you do, the children will love it as long it's from their mother's hand..Believe me!! Please wish your son has 'A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY'and hope to have a grand party!!

ahh funny question, I just took a homemade carrot cake out of the over. I have to say no box cake can compare when it comes to carrot cake lol! But when Im baking just a regular cake I always use the box so I guess it just depends on what kind your making. I also use apple sauce in place of the oil required and it makes the cake less fattning and gives it a nice moist taste.

Yummy! A carrot cake sounds really good! I have used applesauce before too, it really is good. Someone told me before to use diet coke in place of oil, I have never tried it but they swore it was delicious.

I have done both. Most of the time with cake I use a box mix anymore. Cookies and things I do from scratch, but you are right about the less of a chance of messing up.

My daughter usually gets the cake mix for my grandson's birthday as she has for my granddaughter. I remember we used to take donations at one of my jobs for co-workers birthdays cards and cakes. They usually got a boston cake with filling in and chocolate frosting. I have often wanted to try the Baskin-Robbins frozen icecream cakes but we have not done it yet. My grandmother used to make a cake from scratch and we would celebrate whoever's birthday it was that Sunday when we had our usually family dinner.

I prefer to search for recipe when I bake a cake.. from scratch.. you are such a lovely mother to bake a cake for your child's birthday.. and frankly, I am thinking of that too myself when my girl turn 1 next year. I have been practising different kind of recipes so that I could get the best out of it. I can't find what the exact ingredient in those bake from box, and I will like to know how to do that. Actually it's cheaper to bake from scratch than baking from the box.

Hi singlemom, im sorry to tell you that i dont really know how to bake cakes. I have tried baking banana cake only and choco fudge but birthday cake is not my expertise. But i can make a variety of frozen cakes i usually prepare during my daughter's birthday.

It really varies. I made my parent's anniversary cake this year from a Betty Crocker cake mix. I don't often make cake at all. If I did I'd gain a lot of weight because I love cake more than any other dessert. But I prefer to make what my mom calls Wacky Cake. It's the best chocolate cake I've ever had. Whenever I make it she always has to dig up the recipe. It's just so moist and SO yummy.

you are smart to make the cake yourself for your son's birthday because cakes are pretty expensive. i can often find cake mixes on sale for 99 cents so i always use a box to make them with.

I have never made a cake from anything but a box. I would assume from scratch would be better as the ones the grocery store taste better than the out of a box versions. I would like to try from scratch but cake flour is quite a bit more expensive than regular flour. Good luck w/ your son's party & happy 3rd b-day to him early!

Hmm. I learnt how to make cake aged 9. I just opened a cook book and started going. Age 12, we learnt how to in home economics class. If I had to make a cake from a box, I'd rather buy it ready made.

Baking cakes from a box mix is quick and easy. Those who are pressed for time often take this road. Myself, i have always been a cook from scratch person. i prefer to gather my own ingredients and make it from scratch every time.

It depends on if I'm in a hurry. If I'm not in a big hurry I always make from scratch, following my grandma's recipe. But if I don't have at least a day's notice I go buy a boxed mix. It's just easier if you don't have a lot of time.

Either way is fine with me I like cooking but from the box is way easier and like you said less chance of messing up on measuring stuff..Well I do hope that his birthday goes fine. I have to make a chocolate cake for my step-dads birthday box of course...especially since my 8 year old sister is helping..the less we have to do the better..lol..

I always bake from a box. I am and always have been a lousy baker. I can cook great meals but any attempts made at baking result in failure. I remember when my daughter was having her 12th birthday party she asked me NOT to bake her a cake....she made it herself and it was perfect!

Most definitely from scratch; I found a recipe for a pound cake, and I go from absollute scratch myself. Pretty good. There was a time I worked out of cake mixes, but for the most part, I go from flour and move from there.

I bake both ways. Don't make as many cakes as i use to since my sons left home. Use to keep something baked all the time. I sure don't need cake around, lol.

I bake from a box. I have been thinking that I would get my Aunt to teach me how to bake from scatch. She bakes delicious cakes and pies from scratch. Mine is from a box. Happy Mylotting
