I guess the Asian guys here will be able to answer this. In which dishes can I put tumeric powder? I have a bit of it, just tumeric, not mixed with other spices, can I use it on anything?

I've been putting turmeric on my baked chicken along with some ginger. i also like to put it in my home made chicken noodle soup. It gives them both a nice flavor and pretty color. It can go into deviled eggs, vegetables and rice. It gives many dishes a nice color.

I am so glad you answered this, deebomb, as tumeric is/was not a spice/herb that I had commonly used, and recently read about it's health properties! I found a wonderful (or so it sounded for ruby grapefruit chicken) that required both tumeric and saffron! Just a little of each...but it ended up being very bitter, and did not know if it was the tumeric..or the saffron? But I think, I definitely would like the combo with Ginger, as I love Ginger. Did read tho', that if you get it on you...the stain is with you for life (on your clothes, that is)! Just last nite, I made curried chicken...and what I find lately is that I cannot get a good quality curry...do you use it..and if so, including tumeric, is there a good brand? Should I be making a trek to a traditional EAst Indian store? Thanks, dee....and Cheers!

I really just use the curry that I find in the grocery store but don't use it often. I just use the turmeric and ginger and sprinkle it on what ever I'm using it on. I don't know if we have any East Indian stores in my area. I found a couple of sites that give some curry spice recipes and one that gives more information. http://www.lionsgrip.com/curingredients.html http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/13/Basic_Curry_Powder_Indian_Cur61036.shtml

Turmeric is a necessary ingredient of curry powder. It is used extensively in Indian dishes. Using turmeric in all the dishes, reduces the chances of Cancer. Turmeric has blood purifying, antiseptic and digestive properties. Turmeric powder can be used in preparing chicken or meat recipes..Just a pinch of turmeric powder can be added to any dish..It adds a flavour and colour to the dish. Turmeric is a main ingredient in preparing pickles as well.

The simplest recipe that I can think of is fried chicken. Just sprinkle some turmeric powder and some salt to taste. It works great with me. Usually turmeric is put inside curry.

Turmeric is a very good spice with many medicinal properties. It is good when cooking vegetables and meat as it helps in better digeston. You can use it for your stir fries, frying meat and fish, any curries, barbeques etc. Just remember that it also adds a yellowish color to the dishes. Keep that in mind when cooking for any guests.

Hello paleorainy. I bought a bottle of tumeric and when I cook food, I love to use a little bit of it as a flavor together with some other seasonings I prefer. I don't think that there is any problem for us to use it on the food that we prefer because I have been using it without any problems.
