An Ode To Shanahan

Last night Shanny retired! He was the first player I noticed when I started watching hockey. He played all out every shift. He had great timing and was a problem for the other team when the Wings were on the powerplay. And besides he is a Stone Fox. He is the first player that I Had to get used to seeing his smile because I was soo used to seeing his game face.I followed him to the Rangers and then back to The Devils but he will always be a Red Wing. And now it is over and I am heartbroken. At least I got to see him hoist the Cup three Times! I want to wish him all the best. Good bye Shanny!

They did a nice little montage to Shannie during the wings game tonight..I did not know that he had 17 Gordie Howe hat tricks..Howe had only had 2. They showed the clip of him leaping to take out Roy during a fight, and some of his best off-side shots. Everyone calling that game is sure he is going in the hall of fame first time his name comes up.

I too will miss him. I am also 50.00 richer. When he left the Rangers and signed with NJ I bet my brother-in-law he was going to retire before the all star break. I agree with you on the stone fox description. I don't think we are done seeing him. I look for him to end up with the a position in the players association or some where else in the political part of hockey. He was very involved in all the negotiating during the lock-out a few years ago. (I barely survived that by-the way)and he's a great ambassador for hockey. So I am glad to join you in wishing our irish dream boat all the best..and I can only add, Thank you Brendan Shanahan for never letting me down when I watched you play. Maybe I will have to wear my Shanny jersey tonight for the game against Dallas. Just for old time sake.

Also helped set up the new rules, which certainly didn't hurt him the last couple years. Probably extended his career, what with the extra power play time.
