Real or fake Christmas tree?

When I was a kid we always got a real tree and we had real little candles that clip on . Then as I got on my own I didn't have a tree for a couple years. Now we have this 6 foot fake tree and it's a beauty. It was giving to me from a friend and we been putting it up for years now. I like real trees but they dry out the needles fall off and then you have to get rid of it after Christmas. This one you just put back in the closet for next year. What do you prefer "FAKE or REAL"?

I was allergic to real Christmas trees as a child, or "Holiday trees" as they are now called due to social, and political conflicts about public religion. So we always had a fake tree for Christmas. I don't know why my family celebrates Christmas Nobody in my immediate family is christian. I think maybe it's more about seeing smiles on our loved ones faces, than it is about celebrating the birth of Christ. Which I don't understand, because Christ wasn't even born on December 23rd. Anyway, getting off topic here. I think real trees have their high points.. like the smell of a fresh cut pine to go along with the whole seasonal..thing. But fake trees. You only have to buy one and they are good forever, and theres generally no mess when you go to put it away. Unlike a real tree. Which leaves pine needles all over the place, and sap on the floor, or presents if your unlucky. So My vote is Fake tree

Hey, ditz, when are you coming back to myLot? Actually, I wanted to say that we'll be going back to a fake tree this year. It seems that your old mom is also allergic to real trees. The trees we've had since we moved here to the country seem to have set something off in me. I don't think it's the particular tree, but the proximity to my nose. At our old house, the tree was farther away from where everyone sat but now, it's very close and I seem to be doing a lot of coughing and sneezing when the tree is in the house. So, we'll be going back to fake trees and you can enjoy our celebration again without worrying about having your typical reaction to real ones. (By the way, just so everyone knows, CaptHowdy is my son. Hey keedo! Love you!)

Hi, missybear. I have always wanted the real Christmas feeling when it comes to the tree. We have always had a fake Christmas tree for as long as I can think of. That was what we brought up on. Having a real Christmas tree appealed to me. But, I would rather have the fake, it lasts longer.

Hi Cream! Do you also find that with a fake one the bends in the branches bring back memories? We laugh each year over certin parts of the tree that were bent from various degrees of activity!

Every now and then I have no problem with a real tree. I just think that fake trees are easier to manage, and are safer. I didn't know I was allergic to pine trees until the one Christmas that my mom brought one in the house. That was horrible. Real tree's do bring a certain element of authenticity to Christmas though. Especially if there aren't any tacky multicolored lights all over it. To some people Christmas is more about impressing the neighbors with your spectacular light show, and regretting it when they get their electric bill lol. That's kind of sad...

Normally I don't do a tree, but I found this awesome black one and put it up. The cats would normally take it down, but I put it in a room they aren't allowed in! I don't do real trees, I'm allergic to them so its artificial all the way for me!

yep, done in red - I hung my red and black necklaces on it too, some have other colors, but the dominate colors are either red or black

Oh yeah, cats just love messing with Christmas trees. I never seen a black tree but it would look cool all decorated in one color like red or silver.

Hi Missybear, How i wish we can have a real christmas tree but we don't have the luxury of it here in our country. That's is why we are using the fake one (made of plastic, cloth and other indigenous materials). We are already happy with it and it makes us feel the spirit of christmas by gathering together around it putting on hangs and other trimmings. The first time i touched a real christmas tree was two years ago in washington, dc-- i was so excited to feel it. I really got close touched and even smelled it. it was huge and really full of hangs, trimmings and decorations. at least i had the chance to see a real one.

Fake or not, what important is that the meaning of it, knowing it's meaning shows that the people who have that trees knows also the real meaning of Christmas. We cannot define Christmas by only having some decorations and giving gifts at the time of it. Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ who sacrifices his life for humanity. Being happy with what you have, gives the Christmas more sense. Being happy with your love ones on that occasions and being with them, and pray together and thank God for his goodness makes Christmas meaningful than any other occasion. That's all and God Bless. Merry Christmas to you.

If you had a yard where you could plant the tree I would tell you to get a real one. If you want one for Xmas only, you should get a fake. You won't have to cut a tree. After all, forest are devastated every year just to give people Christmas trees. That is not good for the environment. Hope I helped.

I've always wondered about that. How much of the tree do you need to plant it and have it thrive?? We have two little pine trees growing. They've benn growing for 4 years and only 2 feet high. Christma trees take a long time to grow.

anything and everything real is much better!!but i do with fake ones as the real ones are overpriced and they are quite cumbersome as they tend to be a bit messier.

Fake or Real, it doesn't matter missy, just feel the spirit of Christmas, enjoy family reunions, enjoy the season, live the meaning of what Christmas is all about, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. Yeah, yeah, I know I sound corny but its true Christmas comes once a year just enjoy it. Now going back to the topic, I will choose fake over the real one because we now experience global warming and cutting trees will never be the best option if you still want to live. You can make the fake one look real, its all about your creativity and eagerness to keep the Christmas spirit alive in your home. If your house suits to the weather the tree needs to survive, I would suggest to cut one tree including its roots and be planted in your house so that you won't need to kill another one every year. A time of Joy and a Time of Peace! God Bless you Missy! -GELO-

Hi there missybear, Well, when I was growing up we always had a real tree at home. When my kids were smaller we used to go out and pick out our tree together which was fun. What wasn't fun was stepping on the needles that would get stuck in the carpet. Then there is the cleanup and disposal after. One year my grandmother gave us a fake tree and we never went back to the real. I miss the smell of the real tree the most, I think.

I like real tree but it's hard to fine a small one near our area. they are too tall and big trees.. I can't find shorter branches to make a Christmas tree. There are real trees for sale but they are too expensive. I just used the fake one than buying a real tree and it will just die after. While the fake tree you can re use it every year as long as they are still good.

I live in the country, and am very close to an actual tree farm, so I just drive up there with my family and a saw and we cut one down for cheap. I am happy to support the local economy, and love the smell of a fresh cut tree. I never have used a fake one before.

Christmas tree - When it comes to the Christmas trees, I have to say that there are no constructed answers. It depends on a number of factors, including where you live, how you celebrate and precisely what you buy, which are all necessary factors that you should take into consideration.
When it comes to the Christmas trees, I have to say that there are no constructed answers. If your choice is a real tree, then you may face various complex steps. You see, Most Christmas trees are now raised on established farms, which means that deforestation isn't an issue, but they must be shipped, often from long distances. They do require pesticides and fueled vehicles to maintain, and may end up taking up space in landfills. If you want to choose a fake one, you see, most artificial Christmas trees are typically from oil-derived, pollution-releasing polyvinyl chloride, which really do harm to our health. When you are ready to make a choice, it depends on a number of factors, including where you live, how you celebrate and precisely what you buy, which are all necessary factors that you should take into consideration.

I have a fake tree and I love it. It is so much easier than buying a real tree because the last few years they are expensive. I had a real tree growing up and of course they were not expensive back then, but now they are badly priced. It is easier having a fake tree because you can put it up as early as you want to and have more time to enjoy it. I put my tree up Thanksgiving night while listening to Christmas Carols. The tree comes down New Years Day.

Wow, my husband will does not even want to think about Christmas until Thanksgivings Day and we see Santa on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I have tried to talk to him about Christmas, especially this year because of the economy, but he does not want to hear about it. I am glad that you have your tree up already.

You are so lucky to have experienced putting up a real tree with littles candles. As much as I want for a real Christmas tree, here in the Philippines, pine trees are not much of an abundance here so whether I like it or not, I would opt for the fake Christmas tree. Despite it being fake, I want my tree all pimped out to the max with the works, lights, trimmings, christmas decorations, candy canes. Happy decorating your fake or real Christmas trees everyone!

I prefer real over the fake ones. It just feels more Christmassy with a real tree. However, like you, I don't like the mess or upkeep that comes with the real trees, so, I have a fake one. It's only 3 feet tall, I think. Happy mylotting!

Hi missybear! I'm going with the fake tree. I like it better because of the needle thing. I also like the fact that I have one with built in lights so I don't have to fool with straightening them out and adjusting them..lol..I guess I'm a lazy Christmas tree assembler..lol.

Real Christmas tree is very expensive here in the Philippines. We prefer to use fake than real because it can last longer and you can use it again. It is also good to have real Christmas tree because of the smell of the tree. Right now my mother made a Christmas tree out of broomstick for a change.

honestly speaking, we never had real Christmas trees here. Probably because i live in the Philippines (and btw, i don't know what tree is used). All we have here, in all 20+ years of my life, i only remember having the plastic ones where it comes in all sorts of sizes. And yeah, it is easier to store, use and re-use once Christmas season is over. From the movies, i see that the real trees are being carried over at the top of the cars and being dragged inside the house. Of course this leaves a mess inside the house when it dries up. and you might never know what insects it may bring inside your house too. so for me, i would prefer a fake/plastic ones. But would like to experience at least once to have a real tree inside the house, where we could decorate it and relieve the old days where we would get presents under it.
