I have become a huge fan of the Twilight series! No, I was not initially, but I recently ordered the first movie from Netflix, and it really grabbed me.I've always liked stories about vampires dating back to the old Bela Lugosi movies, and I followed the Anne Rice vampire series of novels back during the seventies or eighties. I have also followed Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series for several years most recently. For some reason, though, I shied away from the Twilight series, I suppose because they are advertised as a teen attraction. I have overcome that(hey, I overcame the same thing with Buffy and company!), and discovered a really good film in Twilight. Now that the second in the series is out, New Moon, I can hardly wait until it comes out on DVD. Here is a link to the trailer on Flixter.com:http://www.flixster.com/movie/new-moon-2010-videos/the-twilight-saga-new-moon-11026798

I never got into the books, still haven't but I really liked the first movie. I usually watch movies first then read the books if I liked the story. But with Twilight I am not so much as interested in reading the books for the story but for the author's treatment of Jasper and Alice. I really like their characters. I did the same thing with the Harry Potter books...I watched the first five before even picking up one of the books. While the whole mess is primarily about Harry, the movies focus on him almost exclusively whereas the books go into a lot more depth with Ron and Hermione and the twins and Ginny and the other characters as well. Between that and what friends have told me about the books, I now want to read them just to get to know Jasper and Alice better...

And that is kind of why I like to see the movie first. For me it just enhances the reading experience because the book is (almost) always better than the movie. But I try to look at the film and the movie as two separate entities, independent of one another, because I don't want to be jaded about my movie watching experience but at the same time I love to read.

Hi crim son lady bug: I'm on the other side. For me it's better to read a good book than watching a good movie. I'm else interested in Alice i think she's one of my favorite characters in the saga and as i mentioned i'm a bog fan of the Harry Potter's books. I must confess that, when i first watched the Harry Potter and the Phylosopher's Stone movie i didn't like it because they delet some of my favorite scenes, that's the reason why i prefer to read the books. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day.

I prefer to read the book first, crimsonladybug, then see the movie if I enjoyed the book. There are, however, some movies that I will watch, but I would not necessarily read the book. As much as I love LOTR trilogy, I have never been able to get through one of the books.

I think reading Anne Rice's Vampire series set a presidence with me. I don't find others very interesting. Didn't find Vampire Diaries on tv very good, nor this Twilight series. I will probably see the second one but wasn't very impressed by the first. I wasn't too impressed by the storyline or the characters.

I have to admit, celticeagle, that the spectacular scenery in Twilight was a major reason for my enjoying the film so much, but I also liked the storyline and special effects.

Hi world wise: I have the same experience that you're talking about. I was a little interested on the serie but i was not sure about if i should read it or not because it seems to be like a teen fever and i don't like to read books simply because they're cool. I was not sure else because some people said it was "better than Harry Potter" and i'ma huge fan of Harry Potter that i don't like this comparisons. Well, my little sister watch the movie and then she started reading the books. I didn't want but finally i watched the first movie and read the book because of my sister and that i'd love to talk to her about. Nice question, i think the books are nice and i'll go to watch the movie too. Thanks for your question. Have a nice day.

I agree, starsailover, that some things are beyond comparison simply because of what they mean to us. It seems that the new movie is a definite hit, so I hope you and your sister enjoy it!

The twilight is for the romantic types. :) It is also for the fast-paced and action types. Too bad it was only four books long. I would have enjoyed it longer if the series had been extended, like the Harry Potter series.

It is possible, mmichaellin, that the author will extend the series since it is so popular. It is a virtual cash cow if she continues to churn out those books.

The Twilight movie could have been so much better. But the New Moon movie is AMAZING! They got a new director for it and it was like 3 times as much for a budget this time. The novels are much much muuuch better than the movies by far!

I am excited about seeing New Moon myself. I am reading the last book or Breaking Dawing in the Twilight saga. All of the first three books were great. I also really liked vampire movies myself. I have read books from Anne Rice and I have also saw movies like The Lost Boys from the eightees.

You all recommend the books so highly, Shaun, that I will most likely give them a try. That will give me something to do until New Moon comes out on DVD.

I'm not a huge twilight fan but my daughter is. She had to have all the books after she read the first book. Now she's all about the movies. She went to see New Moon with her fiance's mother when it came out on the 21st. She came home and she was jumping up and down so excited. It was so far from the book but yet it was so good. The graphics were awesome and the special effects were amazing. I myself can't wait to see it now.

I have stayed away from the Twilight books myself, sizzle, but since I saw the first movie I might try reading one of the books.

I like the newer version of Twilight Zone. It is very interesting to watch. On SYFE, sometimes this show will play for six hours straight. It is in black and white. These shows tend to be very scary and creepy like. I like all the remake versions that are up to date better. The old ones are great to look at too. I alos like the vampire show Mooonlight. I have not gotten used to True Blood yet..

I think you've confused the TV series with the movie "Twilight" from the series of books by Stephanie Meyer, cream. There are 4 books in the series, and the second movie, "New Moon," has just been released.

When my daughter got the movie she kept saying you have to watch it. I was not interested at all. However, one day she asked me to watch it with her and I said I will try to if its not for me I will not continue. I was different then you I was never into vampires at all. Well I was glued to the TV and I loved it. It really grabbed me and now I'm hooked.

I appologize in advance if my opinion offends you, fans, but I really don't understand this Twilight hysteria.I really don't I read the books and saw the movies because I kept expecting for somehing to grab my interest. As I said in another discusion here on mylot, I find the idea of glowing vampires to be silly to say the least. A strong predator need other limitations that its own good conscience! There is no such thing in the real world as the most powerfull ..anything. Every pro must have its cons, for the normal balance to remain intact. And please, don't tell me vampires are not real , because I'm old enough to know that. Yes, it is fiction. But the author chose the real 21st century as a background for the stories. And they don't blend with it, creating an unpleasent rupture in my opinion. Plus, I am constantly dissapointed by the newest best-sellers as the quality of literature is degrading more and more.Stehanie Meyers's books lack a certain something. Besides the missfits of the vampire concept, her books are week, they lack depth. Yes tehy are a cute lecture for a long train or bus ride, but other than that , I feel them void. Empty of any philosophy or new ideas and most of all tension! I don't mean the action type, but the emotional type. Usually , when you read a good book,or watch a good movie you get drawn into it, and your emotional barometer goes haywire! With Twilight, both movies and books, my inner meter was kind of continuos flatline. Maybe i don't resonate well enough with them, but these re the words of a person who really loves vampires and vmpire stories. I can't even begin to describe my dissapointment for not finding something new and better or at least even close to Anne Rices' Vampire Chronicles. Her vampires and the way she writes have that seductive power that, in my eyes Stephenies' books don't have

I loooove the twilight series! I started reading the first book the day twilight came to theatres. I was so curious to see what was so exciting about the series. I told myself I'd just read until the first kiss. I didn;t know that that wouldn;t come until 1/2 way through the book lol! I forgot my intent, and got totally engrossed in the book. I read for 5 hours straight that day. I absolutely devoured the other 3 books in the following weeks, too. I saw the movie later, and thought it was ok. The glitter was a bit disappointing. I'm really excited to see new moon, too!
