DIrty Dishes left in Sink.

Dishes. Do you do them after everymeal or wait til you get a sink full? I am home by myself during the day so I really don't get enough to use my water. For one, I have to pay a water bill since I live in town and don't want to make my bill skyrocket. So If I get enough throughout the day, I will do them or I will wait until after supper to do the dishes. I have a friend that if there is a coffee cup and spoon she will do them right away. She doesn't like anything in her sink! How do you feel about having dirty dishes in a sink?

I hate dirty dishes in my sink as well..It's only me & my daughter at home during the day so I don't do the dishes until after lunch but I hate dirty dishes being left over night so as soon as we are done with dinner, I do the dishes so there's nothing in the sink.

I can completely understand that...no matter what the economy is like, we still need to save every cent we can

Some nights I will do them but if there isn't much I don't like to waste water or use water that much for having to pay so much a gallon it can add up during the month, especiallly with doing laundry and bathing.

I do mine about every other day since I live alone. I don't dirty many dishes. I stack them up and cover them with a nice towel until I do them. No dishwasher here, I have an old house that nobody ever bought one for. I'd like to have one but can't justify the expense and the water waste--I only use about 4 gallons to do a sinkful of dishes.

Yes, I know what you mean. I live in a cookie cutter house and there is no, no room what so ever for anything!! I feel I am saving more money with doing it by hand, but I also know that there are energy saving dishwashers, but rather do myself. Old traditional style works for me.

I don't pay for my water where I live but I do pay for the electric that it takes to heat it. Because of that, I make sure that I have enough dishes piled up to make it worthwhile to fill that sink. It is just me and my daughter here and usually the dishes don't accumulate enough until after dinner. I will either do them then or first thing in the morning after she has had breakfast. I do know people that do them up right away even if it is just a cup or two. I am on a tight budget and have to pay attention to little things like this.

Ah! I definitely have a special technique for this!. Once upon a time I used to leave the dishes until the next day but that would really cause a stink and it became totally unacceptable. Now, when I am ready to cook a meal I make sure that I fill the washing up bowl with boiling hot water! By the time I have finished my meal the water has cooled down enough whereby it is luke warm and I can then wash the dishes straight away. I think that this is a very good idea and it certainly works for me now. There are no more dishes being left over causing a mess and so forth. I don't get many visitors anyway so I'm not really that bothered but I guess I make a real effort when it comes to washing dishes! Andrew

that does sound like a good idea. If i do that, then I would get sidetracked for something, then the water would get too cold. I have my son so he can be distracting alot. :)

As long as there is old food around, there is a chance the insects etc will crawl in,and the one day somebody will get doctor's bill, so It is bette to keep a clean scene dear, personally I hate the medicine bills

oh, I don't leave it that long or that messy. trust me, I don't like going to houses like that and I do not want my house to be like that either. I usually do them the same day but later on in the day when there is enough to use water. Some nights I may leave overnight if I am exhausted throughout the day or I have a bunch of errands, appointments. My house isn't that messy nor would i let it get like that.

hi charblaize^^;; i do live alone too and like you, i only use few dishes in a day so i just pile them neatly on the sink until i had dinner then wash them altogether. i use computer whole day so i don't want to wet my hands in between just to wash a cup and a teaspoon i used for coffee. but, i make sure nothing is in the sink before i go to bed. i don't like my sink to be in a mess when i get up the next day. when i have visitors like my parents and friends, sure, we wash the dishes after the meal because many dishes are used so it'll look dirty and messy when not cleaned up at once.

Yes, i know what you mean. I usually do collegework, housework during the day but I don't want have to do dishes three/four times when I eat, snack or whatever. So I usually wait until night time to do them when I make supper. There have been some days I leave a few overnight and do after my son goes to school.

I let them sit normally until I can't get into my sink to do what I have to do. But we also have a dishwasher so I just load that and wait till that gets full to start it. My daughter on the other hand had the house while we were gone for the week and she did a good job of washing all the dishes after she used them. We came home to a clean sink, kitchen, and bathroom. She did a good job with the house. This is the first time she's ever had the house to herself and her fiance alone so long before. Noramlly it's only a weekend. But this time it was a week and I'm not only surprised by what she did but very very proud of her.

That was very respectful of her and nice for you. Atleast she didn't have any major party and leave the mess for you :)) hehha. It is nice for a dishwasher but my kitchen isn't big enough so I do dishes by hand. I don't mind it gives me activity to do during the day.

I wash my dishes when my sink is already full. Sure enough it will not be until the next morning because I don't usually sleep at night when my sink is full of dirty plates unless I am so tired to do that. There are days that I am working outside the house or visit some friends and when I get home I am too tired to wash the plates, then.. that's the time that my sink is full of dirty plates and I just wash them in the morning when I get up.

It is just me and my hubby in the home. I usually fix supper after he gets home from work. So that is where most of my dirty dishes come into play. It really depends how I feel if I do them then or the next morning. I will have to admit that I really don't like dirty dishes but it does depend upon my mood. Have a nice day and keep smiling.

I know what you mean about mood, there are times I just don't feel like it and rather spend time with my son and just have a relaxing evening.

clean sink all the time - sink vs. the dishwasher
I have kids at home who constantly eat. Who will leave spoons and cups, and small plates on the sink all the time. We try to wash the dishes after every meal. We wash it by hand, but a couple of times a week we use the dishwasher. This way we save a little bit in water, and we clean our washer regularly.

after breakfast or just after having a cup of coffee during breakfast or her breaks she will wash them right away. She don't like anything in her sink. Me, if I am busy doing my collegework, housework in other rooms I will leave my dishes in the sink until I get to that room. Other times if its not much I will save until dinner dishes. I don't like to waste water.

I always have a house full of hungry teenagers that seem intent on using every dish in the cupboards. We tend to just keep loading the dishwasher all day so we don't have to look at them and the last thing I do before I go to bed is turn it on. I don't like dirty dishes in my sink or under the beds, where my son and his friends tend to put them.

It is so much different when kids are around!! I don't have a dishwasher and have to do them by hand. :( I don't like to see them piled high, so I will usually do them at night or if we have many activities going on throughout the day I will do next morning. I am lucky I don't have beds that are in air or have hidden areas for dishes. I do know what you mean about finding things everywhere and anywhere.

Hello, Me I do my best to get them done after a meal and I start good from Sunday to like Tuesday and then from them on it will be filled to Saturday morning where I do them all. I wish I can get them done all the time. But just like my house I try focus on one room and get that clean and then the other room look horrible (lol) Not easy to do with two jobs. My daughter helps but she works too and school work as well. We do our best. Happy Thanksgiving Unique16

Thats one thing, when I get busy with other things and just when I think I am caught up, there is more dishes in the sink! After awhile I get alittle tired of it also and hard when I am the only one doing them.

Generally, I will do the dishes right away. in fact I like washing them very much, which give me a sense of achievability. look at these clean and shinning dishes, it is a good feel. and if you wait to wash them together, it maybe difficult to wash for some reasons

I don't mind doing them I feel its just for more of a water bill saving. Then I will do many at a time instead of a spoon. I will soak some of pots if I had to then wash them later.
