A debit card is tied into your bank account. Once you swipe your debit card the money is taken out of your bank account. A credit card is like borrowing money from the credit card and it needs to be paid back. With a credit card one needs to be careful when you use it because you will have to pay it back by a certain date or else they will hit you with a late fee. Also, using a credit card too much can put you into debt.

With a debit card you pay with your own money. With a credit card you pay with someone else's money.
With the debit card it is your own money in your bank account that you pay with. With the credit card, it is the credit card company that pays the merchant, then you pay the credit card company back later (hopefully
).

When you use a debit card you are using your own money. The money in the card comes from your own account, and you use your own money to pay for things. This is better because you are charged no interest.
When you use a credit card, you are using money borrowed from the company. After you use the credit card, you receive a bill and you need to pay that off later. With a credit card, you are charged interest so you need to pay more on the bill. The credit card is not your own money, so if you can use a debit card that would be better. . .

Its really quite straight forward. A debit card is used to pay for items with money you already have in the bank. So it is money you have earnt or recieved already. A Credit card is used to pay for items with money you are borrowing and have to pay back. If you do not pay it back on time, they will add extra debt to what you already owe.
