We've always done artificial as the needles on a real one can be a PITA to clean especially if you have carpeting. And a one time expense vs a yearly expense. Though on the other hand a real tree you wouldn't have to store it and our cats love fool'n with the tree even out of season they try to get into the box. Which one do you prefer and why?

We always used to have a real tree but in the last few years we got an artifiicial tree which is just as good. The only thing I miss about a real tree is the smell of the pine.

Well you know my mom used to buy this canned pine scent when I was a kid. I'm sure it's still around somewhere *LOL* I know I loved to spray the fake tree with that stuff when I was young.

Did you find the spray? Or I'm sure you could find some sort of air freshner or candles that would do the job.

I am allergic to real trees, so I want nothing to do with them!

Even pines? I would think it would be the pollen in a flowering tree. Do you know what triggers your reaction?

Oh yeah! Back in 1963 my parents bought an artificial tree because I was SICK every year at Christmas. And you can BET how poor that fake tree was - but it was better than a sick kid!

How strange. And you still have a reaction to this day if you are near a real tree?

I would love to have a real tree but unfortunately they don't do well in the house and I would like to be able to enjoy it for a while. Also, I have high ceilings and a large tree costs a small fortune. But a live tree smells so good. We usually do the artificial tree and a real wreath that I stuff my nose into every time I walk by it

that is tru the taller they sre the more expensive they are. We usually get a real wreath from the boyscouts but a fake tree.

Hi, 3SnuggleB! I would prefer the artificial tree over the real Christmas tree. I don't want the tree to wither away. It last longer to me. That is all my grandma would have to put up for Christmas..

I agree it's a shame to cut it down to watch it die. It least it looks beautiful til it dries up & the needles fall off.

Actually I prefer to have a real tree as it gives the natural look and feeling. But the dis advantage part of it is that we can not store it for a long time where as the artificial tree thouogh does not give any natural look or feeling, it can be stored for a long time and can be re- used any number of times.

I used to do a real tree until I realized they were getting so expensive. My cats love to climb in the tree and had tried to knock it down a few times last year. My husband and I decided to go the artificial tree route because it is cheaper and it is easier to store. I put my tree up Thanksgiving Night and we keep it up until New Years.

My big kitty (16lbs) likes to climb the tree as well. We had one with hinged branches let me tell you his big ol' self bent half the tree's branches down He's liked climbing in it since he was a kitten and hasn't stopped except if I squirt him.

For years we had a real one - but what a mess to clean up afterwards! We were picking up pieces weeks later, and while a REAL tree is very nice, one now questions the ethics of cutting down a tree for decoration. An artificial tree looks neat and tidy, is regular in shape, is easier to decorate and can be pulled apart and stored in a smallish container. We haven't assembled our tree for years now as we spend Christmas with our grown family.

I just put an artificial christmas tree in our house. Our christmas tree has been with us for many years and I just keep on changing the colors of teh decorations each year. We cannot put real christmas tree in our house because the weather here in our country is not appropraite for those real trees inside the house. The tree will die.

I like artificial trees more than real ones, for the same reason as you. For the real trees there is a lot to pick up. I also like artificial tress because they can't die, and they can come in all different colors and they are really beautiful. The one thing I think I would want from a real tree is the smell. I love the smell of tress, it's so refreshing.

I prefer a real tree because it smells so good. It may not have the perfect shape but just the same, it looks beautiful and natural. Cleaning is nearly the same as having an aritificial tree because there always something from both trees which fall out. True, artificial trees are a one time expense but I think nothing substitutes for that smell you get from real pine trees. If I can afford it each year, I would get a natural one. I think this year I'm putting my plastic one.

absolutly a real tree, i like to go every yeat on my forest to take a real tree, it's very different from an artificial one, the real christmas spirits need a real tree, the only problem of real tree is that if you cut it will be lose his needles. the right way to pick up real trees is to eradicate them, and put them into a big jar and continue to add water.

Hi! there is no doubt for me- the real Christmas tree is the symbol of Christmas and it makes the Christmas athmosphere realy festive. The artificial one doesn't look so real and if looks, I still know it isn't. I love the real one and I love to decorate it.

Hey Dear, I will prefer a real tree rather than an artificial. Because, its not only natural but has different smeel which really makes your mind enlighted. But, in this fast growing world and busy life people do not have time to take care of an orginal pine tree till chritsmas, o they opt for the artificial. But, still original is original. Cheers

I think I like fake trees better- the're easier to clean/set up, plus I think its kind of cruel in a way to just use live trees for christmas and throw them away afterwards.

i prefer the fake.it doesn't smell as nice, but no mess,no watering, and no pine in cat vomit. i have one of those old fakes right now,but i'm thinking of replacing it with a new LED lit one you can fold after season.

I remember having a real tree a few times growing up, but for the most part we had a fake one. My kids have always gotten a fake tree as well. This year I bought a new fake tree because we actually have room for a 6 foot tall tree. Up till now we have always had a 4 foot tree sitting on top of a short table. I like the fake one better because you don't have to buy a new one every year.

I have never had an artificial christmas tree. My parents don't like artificial christmas trees, they never considered buy one, and when I started buying my own christmas trees I kept on buying real trees like I am used to. It would be less expensive to use the same tree year after year, and sometimes it is hard to find a beautiful tree, but my family usually has a good time when we go out and buy the tree, and I had would miss that part if we had an artificial tree. But I wouldn't miss cleaning the carpet when christmas is over

here in the philippines, we use artificial christmas trees...which is better because after the christmas season, we can disassemble it and store it in a box for next year use. its less expensive, because we can use it for up to 3-4 years depending to the one using it. if they want a new look for their christmas trees...they can easily replaced it with a new one.
