I have a few of my own plus I have my mothers records that I got when my mom passed away...i haven't opened the box that has both my mom's & my records in. I am now trying to declutter my house & do want to keep records but not sure if I should keep my mom's records or not...I know that alot of my mom's records may be worth a bit on the future because of them being originals & who the artists are but should I hang onto them & give them to my daughter when she's older or should I just bite the bullet, cut the emotional ties & get rid of them?

no no no. dont keep aside those records bcoz those are unforgottable memories of your mom. you can feel her presence through those records, if i am not mis interpreteted.
i had a huge collecttion of my records but now it is vanished bcoz some persons take them and never return back.

My mother had a rather large collection of 33 and 45 RPM records, along with a few 78s. I have them all now, and more records that I have collected myself, overtime. I love them. I also have an old Victrola for the 78s, and found a place in NYC that sells needles, so I can use the record player.

I am now starting to auction off all of my unwanted records that I own but still unsure of keeping my mothers because of sentimental attachments.

I don't. i am past that generation where they were common, although I have sometimes thought about buying a few. They look much cooler to have around than CD's. I would keep a few maybe, and get rid of some as well.

The only downfall with records is that they are big & can't be put in a folder like cd's can :)

I am not from the record era so I dont have any record ,I do have some cassetes and like you I have some amount of sentimental conncetion with them. There is just something about the music stored on cassete and record.Right now I am moving with the time and storing cd.The only thing is that my collection is not diverse ,it is mostly alternative

You should keep your records, not just because of them being valuable in the future, but it's nice to have your mom's things too.
I also have some records from when I was a kid. The bad things is that I don't have an lp player anymore, but I like just the fact of seeing them.

That's what I was thinking but I do know that some of these records will never be played by me.

Depending on the condition, etc, some records can be worth heaps

i used to keep records when i was in the middle school.
maybe at that time, it was very hard to get new songs.
and now i don't keep because it is so easy to get any songs i like.
that is funny.

Hi moonchild, I got rid of the lot in the last house move as the record player wasn't worth transporting. They were so much better than tapes, cd's and whatever else they have these days, which always break or need replacing.
I expect my mother still has the only collection I knew her to have, Frank Sinatra.

I'm lucky enough to have a smallish stereo system that has a record player, tape player & cd player in it :) i think my mom may even have 1 or 2 records by ol' blue eyes too

Hi! Yes, I do. And I have about 100 lp's but my gramophone is broken and I don't know how to repair it. I know, that there are new gramophones with USB, but at the moment I don't have money to buy such one. So I'm waiting to get more money and I will buy it.
