Songs of celebration

Hello all:) Here in the US, as in many companies, we will be celebrating Christmas next month, which for many of us means celebrating the birth of Christ. And like other countries, we have many celebrations through the year, most that come with their own "special" music. For Christmas, it is carols. Some of my favorite Christmas carols:O Holy Night The Little Drummer Boy Silent Night Little Town of Bethlehem Joy to the World The Christmas Song Pat-a-pan ...and many others. I love to sing them, or listen to them on the radio or Cd's, or play them on the piano. What is your own next nation-wide celebration that is coming up? As part of the celebration, is there music especially for it? If so, what are your favorite songs for it?Karen

Hi K, WE have lots of songs to express our praise and thanksgiving in one big event or celebration like the mass. There are certain songs for our patron saints where we celebrate their festivities and of course the highlight of them all are the christmas carols. i know of so many christmas carols and same with you i sing the following too: o holy night, away in a manger, christmas story, white christmas, blue christmas, 12 days of christmas, mary's boy child, little drummer boy, midnight clear, silent night, jingle bell rock and jingle bells, whispering hope and give love on christmas day by michael jackson.

Hi Ms :) Oh, those are all such beautiful songs you've chosen! I have a number of Christmas Cds, and I find it such a joy to hear or play them for the month just before Christmas. It is such a warm season of peace for me, that I like to make it last. It comes and goes so quickly! But that is part of what makes it so special. Thank you for sharing your beautiful favorites. hi fellow mylotters we did have a chorus I and six otherresidents sang Oh Holy Night, jingle bellrock, silent night and the little drummer boy. I think we were pretty good too as all the residents clapped afterwards. we did have some piano accompaniment but some was a capello too. None of us were anywhere close to professional singers but we had a lot of fun doing it.

Bravo, my friend! This sounds like such fun and the audience probably enjoyed it immensely. I loved singing in the high school choir, or anywhere! One doesn't have to be a pro to enjoy it to the max! Karen

Hello Aerous my friend :) Our town is also now decorated for Christmas and the frenzied shopping for gifts has begun. I enjoy that, but I also very much enjoy the spiritual side and meaning of this holiday of goodwill and giving :) Silent Night -- such a beautiful song, also one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy the season, simple is good! Karen

That's so good to hear Karen. Even we celebrate Christmas in our own small way, India being a country of all cultures and religions. One of my friends, a christian, takes me to the church and it feels so good. Then we go to her home for the celebration. Our celebration time if just over. October-November was full packed and we enjoyed like mad. We are waiting eagerly for the Christmas to come as well. Here, wishing you a wonderful time preparing of the day.

Hi Karen, The Christmas songs you mentioned are all classics that everybody loves to sing during this special occasion. They are my favorites too. In my country, radio stations start playing Christmas songs as early as September, we view this month as the start of the holiday seasons. In addition to the songs you already listed, I love Give Love On Christmas Day by Michael Jackson, Last Christmas by Wham, Vanessa William's version of Do you Hear What I Hear, and Happy Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon. Christmas and New Year are among the the biggest celebrations that our country look forward to every year.

Hello Dory :) Yes, I do love the classics, as well as some of the more modern ones, too, but I couldn't think of their names lol. I love your picks, as well, and I hope your celebration where you live will be a joyous one. The whole season just takes on a very special air :) Like you, we in the US begin to get very serious about celebrating Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. Joy and peace to you, Karen

Mine is also Christmas. I love this time of the year. I am already singing my favorite songs. As a matter of fact tonight my husband and I went to a Tree Lighting ceremony here in town and we also saw kids dance to different Christmas songs. My favorite group was the three- five year olds they were dancing to Jingle Bells and the littlest girl (she is 3) kept on sining after her performance was over and she would not get off the stage. It was so cute. One of my old time favorite songs is "I Want a Hippoponamus for Christmas". I also love the song "I'll Be Home for Christmas".

We had a great time. I love children and can't wait to teach. I am also hoping that the economy will get better or I can work on here close to full time pay so I can start a family of my own. I want kids, but with the bad economy I am afraid to bring a child into the world. I love watching kids and seeing how they react this time of year. I had also forgotten that kids make up songs as they go along. There was this little boy (he was about 4 years old) and he was singing a song where we he wanted a new bike for Christmas and mommy had said no. It was cute.

Are you in school now to become a teacher? What an admirable job that is. One of my sisters has taught for a long time now, and she still loves it. Children are God's greatest blessing to us. You'll love teaching, I know, and also being a parent when the time is right for you. Awww, how cute about the little boy. Kids are so curious and they really know how to put their imaginations to use!

Hi Pat. It sounds like you love Christmas and its music as much as I do. We have a local radio station that begins the 1st of Dec. to play Christmas music exclusively, right up to New Year's day. And like you, I don't tire of it even listening to it for an entire month. It's all part of the joy. Karen

Hey Karen, Although I am a Hindu but I have loved Jesus since I were a child. I do know a couple of songs that you mentioned here and I sang a couple of them once, in my school, for Christmas. We do celebrate Christmas, not in a very grand way but we do love it. It is the only tme round the year when its a bit cold, and the weather becomes extremely pleasant. And like an icing on top of it there is this festive mood of Christmas.

Hi Bodhi :) Jesus is easy to love, yes? And I too have loved him since I was a young child. Christmas does not need to be celebrated in a grand way to be meaningful. Like you, I enjoy the festive mood and the wishes of piece and goodwill. The lights, the music, the gifts, for me, all have a spiritual meaning behind them anyway. Thank you for responding :) Karen

Hello Iriene :) Your stores and malls in Malaysia sound much like ours here in the US this time of year. Very colorful and decorated for Christmas...full of people looking for gifts to give. I love walking into a mall or store and hear the Christmas music playing. It adds a lot to the whole festive atmosphere. I very much love the songs you've chose, as they are some of my own favorites, too. I wish you, too, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year :)) Karen

Well, I'm in the United States as well and I am really looking forward to Christmas. I really do love everything that comes with Christmas and the traditional Christmas music is no exception. Some of my favorite Christmas songs are: Silent Night Little Drummer Boy Do you Hear what I Hear O Come All Ye Faithful And many of the other songs that come with the season. Believe it or not, right now my radio is tuned into the local station that is playing all Christmas music through Christmas day.

hi peacefulwmn9 I am here in the US too in Ca and one of my most favorite carols is O Holy NIght. I love that song and sung by a really good singer its just so very beautiful. also Ave Maria too. I love it when everyone starts playing Christmas Carols. We did not have that music here in Gold Crest last year hopewe do this year though. As as side thing I have one of the worst renditions of O Holy Night sung by some idiot who tried to mimic Elton John's style of singing and failed miserably. the last part sounded like he was just screetching the words. I kept it just because it was so horribly awful.

Hello Hatley...I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving! Of them all, O Holy Night is definitely one of my all-time favorite carols, too. LOL, you could play your "horrid rendition" and perhaps Gold Crest will get music just to drown it out or in the hopes you'll stop? I feel very lucky that in my area of Michigan, there is a radio station that plays Christmas 24 hours a day the month before Christmas, so there is always at least one avenue to hear, whether I'm driving or here at home :) Karen
