How far away are you from happiness?

I am pessimisic, but I always try to be strong. My life has been filled with things that make me feel upset.I just feel that since I was young I would have to do many things I don't like. The truth may not be that bad, but I am just that kind of sensitive person. Now I'm old enough to make my own decision, which was my willing, but I suddenly realize that when you get some freedom, you have to face up with more difficulties. However, no matter what happened, I just try my best to make myself calm and positive to solve the problem. I try to make myself happy, but there is always a sad feeling in my heart. How much I want to get the real happiness. At least now I feel real happiness is far from me, how about you? And I want to know how to get it.

Are you sure you don't suffer from a form of depression? That is what it sounds like to me. I have my days here and there where I will wake up sad and or depressed but it usually doesn't last more then a day or two. I'm usually an optimistic person so I try to stay away from negative things. I think everyone suffers some sort of depression from time to time but others can have it all the time. I think that is when you need to seek professional help. My happiness is around the corner and I hope it happens next year when I can sell my home and finally be with my boyfriend in Puerto Rico.

Thank you for your advice. I don't know what's wrong with me, maybe it's just because I am now undergoing a difficult time(finding a job). Hope you would fulfill your wish.

Happiness is a long way away from me. Even though that may not be the truth it is probably because I am very sensitive. When people say things to me I can never take it as a joke. I just wish that happiness was all around me.

Happiness comes from being able to overcome the obstacle u face in life ^_^ IT's thru those answers to your problems in life, only then u feel a sense of fulfilment and achievement.. IF one does not try to overcome them, but only wanna avoid or detour, they can never be happy, for the problems will always keep coming back.. haha =D Maybe u have some burdens in u, which u are afraid to face it, and thus making u sad all the time.. Face up to reality and take it heads on!! Only then, u will feel the happiness!!

Hello, Zhangw. I think you maybe think too much about life, or you easily get upset by trivial matters, or maybe physically you are too tired.Try to adjust yourself, you can solve everything with smile. And don't require everything would be what you want to be.

I think there is not such thing as being 'far away from happiness'.you can be happy with simple things.simple things like a hug,a call from a friends whom you haven't told for some time, and seeing the beauty of sunset are happiness.happiness isn't really dependent on having a lot of money.it is all about being happy with what you've got.

Hi coco: thanks for your advice. I totally follow this point of view and i think people would be happier if they don't think abou happiness as something far away of their possibilities. Instead of this, i would say that almost 90% could be happy with their simple lifes, family and friends but they're not because they're always wishing something else that would make them happy. Have a nice day.

Hi! I am also a pissimist about the happiness. I haven't felt really happy from a very long time. I felt more often sad than happy. And I really don't think, that I will meet the happiness some day.

Congratulations! You seem to be mature enough to realize that just because you are older now and have more freedom and control of your life it doesn't mean things are easier. You have more responsibilities and obligations than you did as a child but no matter how difficult it is you still have the freedom to make your own decisions and this is much better than going through difficulty as a young person and having no control. Happiness is a choice. You have to stop thinking about how difficult life has been up to now and think about all of the things that are good and positive. Being happy is as simple as not giving in to helplessness and frustration as this leads to depression. You must make a conscious decision to be happy and let go of the things you can not control.

Happiness is where we find it. If you face a difficult patch in life happiness is finding a solution - not the perfect solution but a solution. It is too easy to get focused on the negative. You have to have courage and make a conscious effort to be happy. No one else can make you happy only you can. Find pleasure in the simple things in life - a walk in the fall, a rainstorm, a pet, whatever you see beauty in. Enjoy the material things in life but understand that they will not bring you happiness, they will make your life easier so you can focus on the happiness.

Hi zhangw: Thanks for opening this discussion. You have mentioned that you're experiencing some difficulties now and because of that you don't feel free. That's bad and i hope you'll find a solution. You told us that some of the thigs you have to do when you were youg were those you don't like to do. Think that it doesn't make life unfair, maybe you have learnt some important lessons doing those things you don't like to do, or at least you're a more matture person because of that. In other words, happiness for me, it's not about the circonstances but how you react to them and the way you know yourself better. Of course, we have to find a better way of life or you would be mediocre. Hope everything would be better for you in the near future. Have a nice day.

Just like a poster said above, don't compare your life with that of an other, that will only put you down. Because its the old argument, is the grass on the other side greener? Because you may compare your life with that of your friends but they too also have problems that you may not have. Its hard to think like that, but that is how it works. Its all relative. What you should try to do is not think about the past as a negative, try to use it as a positive, grow from the pain and the sadness and be a better person in the future. I recommend you read Robert Frost's the road less taken. Its a poem and it talks about how, it is better to go through many trials and tribulations to get somewhere in life, because you will become a stronger and more capable individual for it. I'm sure now that because of the difficulties that you have gone through in the past, you are able to adjust your view on life and take anything that comes in the future with a different and more developed outlook.

Happiness is not always by hand's reach. I have felt for long the same, but it changes depending on the moment of your life. I have walked a lot through this life and now I feel nearer from happiness than before. Maybe it depends on which path you take, so try to follow the yellow bricks path that will make you feel even a little happy. Just with small actions you can get nearer little by little.

I think the happines is so close to us but also so far away in the same time... depend on anybody perceive the happines and what mean this to everybody. Live u life in present, profit of any smile u get, of any smile u give and make u life easier...to pull out as many nice memories u can...this is the true happines. If u think that your happines will come when you will buy a new car, or when u are married, or when come the first chile and after that u find the happines so u are totally wrong and u fraw away you happiness. A simple day with u friend making jokes, a day playing with u children, a day in a special place with u lover... a simple hag, a simple simle, a simple sweet word this is the happiness... the life is full of problems depend of you. Imagine that the life is a cake... if u put sugar will be sweet if u put salt will be salted. Take care how you prepare and then how u bake it.

pessimism comes mostly in times of loneliness. try talking to someone who can understand you. watch comedy shows or movies to temporarly ease your pain
