Is It Too Much To Ask That Our Links Work Better?

Quite often I love sharing a news story I just heard or maybe share a video...I usually will quote a part of the article, put my own imput, but then I give a link to the article, (or video I wish to share) so people can see the whole article or video. Well for sometime now my links don't work well. I've tried every trick in the book that some of my friends suggested AND THEY STILL DON'T WORK...I then have to wait until I get a first response and then try to give the link again. I'm really frustrated by this...anyone else?

I've discovered that mylot doesn't like some punctuation in the links and you have to triple check them to make sure they are correct - annoying

Just was looking at the link I was trying to post in my other discussion and it didn't have any of those punctuation marks--did have a few / though...maybe another one that isn't accepted?

i get cutoffs and non highlighted sometimes..it's frustrating,i agree. i guess maybe the link in some cases might be too long..all i can think of is one of those link shorteners if you haven't tried that.

it's a site like linkbee or bit.ly that will take a big*ssed link and cut it down to something small-kind of like a forwarding service. a lot of people use them on twitter and FB.

I am also frustrated about the miserable situation about the links. I don't know if the administrators are doing this on purpose, such as to encourage people explain stuff rather than throwing in a link and inviting other members to get the info from that page, or if the people managing the site are plain incompetent... I still post my links, and the people interested paste that link in the browser's address line.

For the most part all the links I send usually work or I haven't heard anything to the contrary. I think one of the issues I am seeing is that the site the link is from makes updates and moves the links quite often and so the link is lost. I found this out recently because one site actually gave me a link to get to where I could get the updated link if anything happened to the link I was given on the site. I hope I said that clearly.

Yes that is often the case where say an old news item gets a new "link" so the one given is invalid

And I really appreciate it when they actually give you a link to follow where you can fix it or still find what you are after.

I haven't had any trouble at all accessing your links. I do have to say that I usually access them from the email I receive notifying me of your discussion, rather than from myLot and the actual discussion. I don't know it that makes a difference or not, but since I haven't had any trouble, maybe it does?

My links don't work poorly, they don't work at all. I wonder if myLot merely wants to not have links that take users away from myLot. Think of it, if a user navigates away, perhaps they might not come back! Maybe someone at myLot thinks it would be better merely not to have functioning links that take myLot users somewhere else.

It seems we've had this problem with links ever since the very last upgrade we had--before that links worked just fine. What I can't get is, is that in the guidelines it specifically says to provide links to outside sources if you're quoting something for an article so people or the admin don't think one is plagiarizing..so like duh?

This seems to be some kind of myLot glitch. When I get links in my email notification from myLot the links work perfectly. However if I am responding directly from myLot then I have to C&P the link into my browser for it to work. I really wish they would fix this problem as it never used to be this much of a hassle.

Yeah I noticed links in email notifications work fine---and yes there does seem to be a glitch about links here though...ever since the last upgrade when we got those lovely blue double lines under certain words.

If a link isn't in a different colour, usually blue, I know it's not an actual link so I just highlight it, hit control C, then I open a new tab, control T, then control V in the address bar. It takes a couple of seconds. No biggy mate.

I don't often post links in fact almost never....so I don't know what you are going through but I do know my daughter sent me a link and I went and pasted it for a search on bing and they kept coming up with no results! This keeps on happening if I use bing...so I don't think they are really a very good search engine!

New computer, so no probs yet. But then I haven't been here in some time and haven't had the occasion to follow anyone's links. Ones sent to me in emails are working fine though...................
