Can This be Too Much Friendship?

Recently I moved from a neighborhood where people are sort of aloof. They may be nosy inside but they mind their own business. But at the new place, it is like Share and Tell. If someone buys a bag of potatoes they keep 5 and put 2 or 3 on everybody else's doorstep. At the other place the clubhouse had a library, but even with 24-hour security at the front gate, the library was only kept open when staffed by volunteers. Here the books are communal (as they OUGHT to be!) We even have a communal carwash with free compressed air for the tires. How cool is that? But I may have made a mistake when I ordered home delivery for my newspaper. Seriously. It attracts too much attention! If I don't get up at some gosh-awful hour in my jammers and bring the paper in before going back to sleep, I risk being awakened by the doorbell only to find a smiling face and two hands thrusting my neglected newpaper forward and a voice saying "You didn't pick up your paper so I was worried about you! I had to see if you were OK." OK, already, I am as healthy as a horse, so I'm OK, now may I PULEEEZE go back to bed? (What do you think? Maybe they just wanted a closer look at my pajamas? I love living here and I love the neighbors, so maybe I should just cancel my newspaper subscription. What would you do?

Totally new word for concerned or nosy? LOL............still deciding. I've never gotten such erm, curious? Or what's the word, inquisitive neighbors? But I would prefer for them to just keep everything discreet and erm, quiet. I would be flattered if someone wants to check out my PJs one time or two, but more than that..shaks! I'll go berserk! LOL......maybe you should see how this month goes, before canceling out the subscription.

Well I am going away for a month (not escaping myLot, I will still be connected except for a couple days) so I had better cancel before. I think the gist of it is that they are morning people and I am a night owl.

I understand that, drannhh. Maybe you should put a 'No Disturb' sign? LOL.. Sometimes, these people thought they are doing a favor, but it can actually be a tiny annoyance.

LOL. I get most of my news online anyway, so I'm finding that I don't really miss the newspaper. Plus these folks looked after my garden while I was gone!

Maybe you could tell your well-meaning, and possibly nosy neighbor, that you like to sleep in and that if the paper is still there in the afternoon, they should feel free to check on your well-being?

It isn't just one neighbor. Five of them came over just this week, lol. Well-meaning and definitely nosy, I think, but I love 'em all. I think I am the only one on my block who subscribes to a paper. I also think I will cancel the subscription!

Great idea, I could just post a notice on the bulletin board in our clubhouse. Right next to the sign-up list for the ice-cream social.

That is so funny..you're right. It might just be easier to cancel the paper. Maybe you should send out a flyer alerting the neighnors when you do.

I never had neighbors like that... but i do remember some who usually bring food over... if we are not invited to a party... then that would mean food will be brought over in the afternoon... Your have a nice neighborhood and the free stuff you get is quite a treat... i think you should just cancel your newspaper subscription if you don't want to be disturbed in the morning... since for sure one or two of your neighbors will come knocking if they see it laying around in the morning...

Hi drannhh I first want to say that I like your new avatar. I haven't been on here for the last few days because of a headache that I can't seem to get rid of. So this afternoon I decided to try things out and see if it would take my mind off of my headache. I have a possible suggestion. Could you call the newspaper company and see if they can send it to you thru the mail. Just explain the situation and they might be able to do that. I think maybe the neighbors are being a little noisy and heck yeah they might want to see those PJ'S too..lol Have a good day and let me know how it turns out for you. Keep smiling.

I think they could send it through e-mail but then I couldn't use the sports pages to wrap the garbage. (That should get a rise out of the men in the audience!) Just kidding. No, they cannot send it regular mail, as that would cost a fortune. I think they just want to see how long it takes me to put ON the pj's. lol. If it was anybody else I'd say they were just being nosy, but this whole neighborhood is so nice that maybe they just want company which is kind of flattering really. Also a lot of the people here are quite elderly and some do go missing in the night if you know what I mean, so we do look out for one another. It is just that I am SO not used to this. I think I will just cancel the subscription. I could buy a paper at the newstand from time to time. It is only a mile away.

I see your point. There is no need in taking on another bill. Well that is how I would look at that. I think that maybe it could be that the neighbors are just being concerned about the new tentant and looking out for you too. That would be hard for me too. I have never lived in a place that the neighbors looked out for me. Buying the paper at a news stand would be a good ideal. You can still save the sports section for cleanup..LOL Have a good day. Keep smiling.

Grandma, I am sure that is it, and also I sure do not have any intention of deleting you. I deleting somebody today but that was because they were getting raunchy, and I like to think of myLot as a nice clean family type site. There is one gal on here who started 27 new discussions yesterday and has never checked in on even one of mine and I haven't deleted her...yet. ROFLLOL.

Hey drannhh! That's kind of funny and kind of weird at the same time! Maybe you should cancel the newspaper if you want to get some sleep! I live in a Garden Apartment Complex where we have lots of nosy neighbors too! But, I don't get a newspaper delivery. But, everyone seems to want to know everyone elses business! The are always peeping out the windows to see who's coming and going into which building! It is so annoying! So, I can understand how you feel! Maybe you should just go out and buy the newspaper when you are ready to go out for the day! Your neighbor's sound crazier than mine!lol

Space cadets, lol. And it is safe to say that too, as none of them are connected to the internet. Yes, I have resolved to stop the home delivery and just go buy a paper from the grocery store down the street. I really have not had time to read the paper every day anyway...I would rather spend that time sleeping!

Well, they are just to nice.. may all you need get a little more closer to them so they can really know you more so they know how you behave that sometimes you just don't feel like picking up the newspaper so they will not annoy you anymore.. the key here is to befriend them seriously..

Yes, you are right. It is not that the same person keeps coming day after day. Each time it is a different person. Maybe I am just not used to having so many different people who care for me in this odd manner.

Hi drannhh New LOOK!!! Its really very surprising as well as a bit unbelievable but at the end it seems your neighbors are very concerned lot about you......which is a good sign for you, your new place will keep you busy and you have to perform or fulfill the aspiration of your neighbors;........ in which direction I don't know and I hope you must have gauged it out till now, must have some idea regarding the fact that "why these whole lot of them are taking interest upon you".......you must be having some extra appeal just like your new LOOK......Hence as a matter of fact We(the mylotters) are very eager to know the real reason/attraction......please convey. Enjoy your life with your new neighbors.

Hi, Rocket. I think it is because the woman who live here before me had some health issues and they are all used to coming over to check on her. Since I am new here, they do not know me well enough yet to realize than I can take care of myself.

Hi drannhh try to be friendly with them so that you get a chance to express them you have an habit of waking late in the day and hate to be disturbed for an silly reason. So from next day onwards they would use your newspaper and then return it in the after noon . May be you should try to take the positives with them coz they are so friendly rather than hating them for these kind of stuff man.We come accross many mylotters complianing about their neighbours causing much serious problems than this so when compared to them you are really lucky to have friendly neighbours.gud day.

I am indeed lucky to have these neighbors for in every other way they are perfect. So I will certainly overlook this very small fault. I do not think any of them actually read a newspaper!
