I don't ever use text messaging, but I have heard lately that many accidents are being caused by people who are trying to text while they drive. Do you do this? Do you think it should be illegal?

I do not text but if I did I would never do that while driving. I won't even talk on my cell phone and drive. I think that is very dangerous and it makes me angry when I see it. My husband does it once in a while, while he is driving and it makes me so mad and I yell at him. He will usually put it away then but the fact that he does it at all is baffling and infuriating to me.

I don't text while I drive but I have read some texts before while driving or stopped at a red light. I don't do it so much now ever since I heard about some accidents that happened because of it. I do think that texting and driving should be illegal because it takes away the attention of the driver from the road, which causes accidents because people don't pay enough attention while they're driving.

I don't text and drive because I don't drive. But if I did drive I imagine I would. I know it's unsafe and can cause accidents, but truthfully I could see myself doing this. I don't know if it should be illegal. So many things can be distracting when driving, not just cell phones. People lose attention of the road by reading billboards and writing on other people's vehicles, talking on their cell (even if its a hands-free device), talking to a friend in the vehicle, trying to read a map, zoning out to music, trying to light a ciggarette, and the list goes on. I think if texting while driving is made illegal then other things need to be made illegal too.

Where I live, any cell phone usage is illegal. As it should be. I wouldn't even dream of texting while driving but I have slightly less attention span while driving. I can only concentrate on driving and listening to the radio.

Hey Hmkoct5, I don't text when I drive. I don't even like to talk on the phone while I drive if I don't have to. I think it is really dangerous and really distracting and it does cause a lof of accidents. I live in Olympia, Washington and it actually is considered illegal here to text/talk on your cell phone while you're driving, and if a cop catches you then you get a REALLY expensive ticket for a first offense. I think a lot of states are adopting that law, and I think it's a good thing.

No, I don't text while I am driving, as it would be way to dangerous, and I couldn't keep my eyes on the road and the cellphone at the same time. Doung both at the same time could cause accidents and maybe even get someone killed or myself. I think it should be made illegal. It is in some states right now, and I do agree with it, as people shouldn't drive and text, not if they want to live to tell about it. Afer all, there have been some that have done that, and caused horrific accidents, so it just isn't worth killing yourself or other poeple just to get a message across. It can best be typed when the car is parked, where it can't cause an accident. Take care, and ahppy mylotting.

Like some of the people above me, I don't drive. So I can get away with texting when I'm out on the road. It as far as I know, against the law in the state of Florida, to text while driving. They have yet to do so, but are looking into talking on the phone while driving, illgel as well. Both are distracting and require you to take at least one hand off the wheel. Therefore it should never be done.
