Got Sour milk

I don't often have milk around long enough to get sour but it does happen once in awhile. I don't like to throw any thing away if I can help it. I found some ways to use it. If there is a lot you can let it set out at room temperature and allow it to curdle. Strain it through cheese cloth tie up the corners and suspend it over a bowl over night and in the morning you have cottage cheese. If there is a small amount you can use it in place of butter milk in biscuits, buttermilk pancakes, breadpudding. You can measure out the amount that you use in your recipes and freeze it too. It is also supposed to be good for roses, and, the other plants.

Wow. I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for sharing the tip with us. I do not like cottage cheese but my husband sure does. We hardly ever have milk in the house that long either though.

It does happen once in a while though and this is a good way to use it up.

Wow, this is very good information. I don't have any idea that you can actually make your own cheese at home . I'll try it sometime and see how it goes. Thanks for sharing it with us. Cheers!

Years ago My ex worked for a dairy and I made cottage cheese with fresh milk but after it curdled it had to be cooked.

I dump mine in the garden. Plants love the nutrients in it. We usualy dont try to use it for anything else like cooking. When my family knows its past the date they wont drink it at all. Picky people.

I just threw almost half a gallon out yesterday! I didn't think of any of those uses, unfortunately. I usually use powdered milk and make up a small amount when I expect to have cereal in the morning. I just don't drink that much and I live alone so unless I buy a pint, I usually don't bother with fresh and just use the powdered. Those are some very good ideas and I will remember them next time I get a good deal on milk. I remember freezing it when it was on sale and my boys were small.

I used to just use the powdered milk when my kids were small. Now I and my 2 grandchildren live together and my grandson likes to drink milk. I don't drink or use it much but he does and once in a while it will go sour. After the last gallon went and I had tossed it I thought about the cottage cheese thing. So now I'm waiting for the next gallon to go sour.

Hmm, this is a new knowledge. But I would probably use it for my mother's roses and other ornamental plants. She loves taking care of flowers. Anything which could enhance the growth or beauty of the plants could be a useful information for us. Thanks for sharing.
