I Fell in Love Today in a Thrift Shop

Have you ever gone into a store, not having a plan or something particular in mind? You just saw the "SALE" sign in bright red, and written in big, bold, white letters. So you went in, just to browse. You promised yourself never to give in to impulses. But you browse through, because the temptation was hard to resist. And then you see it, feel it, smell it. And within five minutes, you hear the register, "Ka-ching!" OK, I know I'm really ~flowery~ when I wrote that, but have you ever? Bought something because you knew that if you didn't buy it at that very moment, you will regret it for the rest of your life? =) And if you did, were you happy afterward, did you use it often, or did it gather up dust at the back of your closet? (I'm happy with this particular purchase, btw.)

Yeah I know the feeling, I have done this several times and I have always regreted it. I buy clothes I really like and after 2 wears, I don't see anything fancy in it. These days, I consider seriously if I want stuff for keeps before I for the sake of buying the stuff afterall money is hard to come by

It's great that you know how to manage your budget well. Some of us really find it hard to beat the impulse =) But for me though, if I really like something and it just sticks even after several minutes and I do have enough to buy it, I go for it.. sometimes. =)

I don't think it's a bad thing if you're going to the thrift store, do you? A sale at a thrift store must be a pretty good sale, right?! I've never been to a sale at a thrift store, but I do go to thrift stores often, and I find that those indulgences are at least healthy ones, considering you save SO much money compared to buying things new from stores! I'm not really a sucker for sales, because honestly I have so many clothes that I don't know what to do with all of them! But sometimes I go a little crazy on small appliances.. lol.

Yes, I agree it's such a bargain if thrift stores go on sale. I can imagine how much you can save. It's even better if you find something with a designer brand (if that's how you like your clothes), or unbranded ones but with very admirable quality.

oh most definitely! i am really into vintage and antiques and you never know what you will score there. i do get clothes there too but yesterday i got a vintage sweater guard (it has to clips that clip to the top corner of your sweater and a chain in between - it was a trend in the 50's not to actually put your sweater on, just over your shoulders and hold it in place with this.)

I think I have done that- many times things get a few uses and then gather dust or simply disappears.. I don't know how- or where they go.. My brother showed me a video that was taped of me unwrapping Christmas presents a few years back.. I looked at the stuff in the video and honestly have no recollection of what happened to it. I only used 1 out of 10 items- where are the rest? I have no idea- maybe I will find them someday and it will be like Christmas all over again. I am glad you enjoyed your purchase!

Oh that happens to me too! When we clean up the house, I just get surprised by the number of things I have that I don't remember even owning. I do hope you find them =) It's like having something new, without the money spent.

I just felt that yesterday, until now,and probably for the rest of the days.I am currently in "savings mode".I went into one of my favorite secondhand stores.lo and behold,I see new dresses I would like to get my hands into.I saw 10 dresses I fell in love immediately - 3 striped dresses,1 beige ruffled dress,2 black dresses,2 polka dotted stress, and 2 denim dresses.plus,I saw lots of pretty full skirts.I wanted to kick myself out of frustration because I don't want to take more money out of my savings account, yet I want those dresses.

Hi LMcueva, I experienced the same way too. This is particularly on blouses. I don't have any plan of buying one but as i check on what's on SALE and i find a nice blouse i will really buy it and no regrets at all. i am even proud to buy it and tell my friends that i have it from a thrift shop!

Plenty of times LOL….it happens to me almost every month at the supermarket where I go for my groceries. Since I know my impulses well, I always make a list of things to buy so that I don’t go overboard! Even then the temptations are just too much and every month almost something or the other is on sale…something which is not compulsory but just makes me feel happy. Most of these items are quite expensive with their original pricing but on sale they are affordable so I just go ahead and buy them.

Well, I am likely to buy item which really caught my eyes not really the pricely one but those cute items which I could display in my glass cabinet. I would not hesitate to buy it as long as it look unique with no similar item. Sometimes i look at sales then i plan to buy but fail to do so as my budget is not enough to buy it. That is why i just stare in to marvel in its beauty. The next their is a sale i make sure that i have enough money to buy anything which i desire.

I have done that many times as well. Right outside the store I promise myself at the back of my head that I will just browse thru the racks but I always end up buying even just one item just to ease my buying power. I have to admit there are alot of things from the past that I hardly used but there are some that are so worn out I still do not want to stop wearing it.

It seems only women do it like that. we men going to store is only when we really need something to buy. And I think it's just that make men differing from women.

Hi, This is an usual happening whenever I go out for window shopping. But nowadays i go out with a list to be purchased and nothing more. If you have a good control on your appetite, you will develop a good self control. Try this, hope this works out for you.
