I Love Animal Stories, no matter how old:This is one of those "feel good" stories that I hope has a happy ending. In Queensland, a 68 year old women was chased by a huge Eastern Brown Snake. It was over 2 metres long & is one of the deadliest breeds in the World. Unlike other snakes, which hide, this snake literally chased the woman. The woman screamed &, at her age was unable to outran the snake. Her three dogs came running. One of the dogs intervened, despite the woman shouting at them "leave, leave". The snake struck at the woman three times. One dog, Tessa, a kelpie caught the snake & & was bitten. Sadly, snakes are even more venomous to dogs than humans, & they usually die. The owner, raced her dog off to the vet & she has a 50/50 chance of survival. The vet said that had the women been bitten, she would not have even made it to her back steps. Eastern Brown Snakes are common in my State & live very near my home, although thankfully I have never seen one in my yard. We call them common brown snakes.

I love most animals but I hate snakes of any kind. I don't know which are poisonous so I just hate them all. I hope her dog is okay. I would have freaked out if one of my cats went after a snake. I wouldn't know what was going on if it chased me, there is no species I know of that doesn't hide. I always think to myself the old cliche "They are more scared of you than you are of them." I guess with this kind of snake it's not true. I always think deer will run off also, but lately you hear stories about them attacking people and stuff like that.

When I lived on the outskirts of Adelaide on 27 acres, we had a lot of snakes. Of our four cats, two were bitten by snakes, twice each. All times the cats survived, although one cat had to go in the humdity crob thing and its treatment cost $600.

I have never heard of the humidity crob thing but it is expensive so it must be an extensive treatment.

I love dogs. they are so smart and they are good friends also. I hate to see any of them get hurt. I know they are very good protectors. I hate snakes too. I wish they no longer existed.

My late, first husband said he was going on anti snake campaign, ecause our 4 cats had beeen bitten by snakes. The problem with that idea, sccording to our local vet, is that snakes eat rats, and if we kiled them asll off, there would be an increase in the rat population.

I do not like snakes and my dogs always let me know if one is in the yard. So far they have only confronted garter (harmless) snakes. I had one poisonous Cottonmouth snake which got into my outdoor air conditioner box. Thank goodness it got chopped up with the blades but I had to have my whole A/C system replaced. Thank goodness my homeowners insurance paid around $4,000.00 for it. Now I am very watchful that my dogs never find another poisonous snake.

Yuuuuk... I have heard of the Cottonmouth Snake. Dogs go looking for snakes if they are in the area and some cats do as well. Once when I was living on 27 acres of scrub, a snake got in our front yard. The 2 dogs went for it. One dog at one end of the snake and the other dog at the other end. They werent bitten.

It is sad that the dog got bite hope he does get better. She was lucky that her dogs came to help her or she would not be alive now. What happen to the snake did it say in the story.

Dogs are amazing creatures. Our own dog alerted us to burglars when our house was broken into and my dad went to the supermarket and was almost carjacked in the parking lot but my dog charged the attacker and scared him off! Another story here in NZ was that of some children walking a Jack Russell, a pit bull tried to attack the children and the JR fought it off, unfortunately it was injured and had to be put to sleep but it's another example of how fiercely loyal dogs can be.

Thats terrible about the poor jack russell. But it is an example of how devoted dogs can be to humans. My last dog was a jack rusell and she weas beautiful.

wow, that very amazing story it only proves once more dog is man best friend they care and concern to their owners relate their way to save them from dangers even sacrificing their lives. I do hope humans have those strong compassion to help those in needs without setting any condition. I do hope the sweet dog survives.

Wow, she was very lucky that the dog did intervene. I hope it comes out of it, but does not sound very promising. I would have really freaked. I hate snakes.

That is a sad story indeed! I hope the dog pulled through. It just goes to show what a big heart those little creatures (dogs) have when it comes to protecting their favorite people!

There was another story last year of a dog that attacked a snake that was about to have a go at a toddler. The dog was bitten, but survived.

OMG! That poor dog! - I do love a good story like that though- I like to shove them in the faces of those non animal lovers. To show that our animals not only love us back but will give up their lives for us. I hope that little dog pulls through. I don't think I have ever heard of this snake, What state are you in?
