how can be friends after be refused

i failed to have a crush on a boy. he said we will be good friends forever. i clearly know he wanted to comfort me. i hate this saying. i even prefer a cold response, which can make me totally give up.and how can stand in front of him as a friend? i guess i will be broken heart

That's a pretty difficult situation. Even if I have tried to be friends with people who have had crushes on me, it has never worked, as the other party can never see me as a friend, and knowing that I will never see that person as anything else than a friend will hurt, and in the end the relationship tends to break.
It doesn't always have to be like that, depends on the effort of both parties to make it work as simple friendship.
