Are Video Games Just Waste Of Time ??

This suggests there's something better you should be doing with your time. What exactly is that? Me, I want to work for a living. So if I spend my evenings playing computer games, I don't get any work done. The same goes with anything, surely? Like watching TV... or reading? Ah, but TV and magazines are informative, yes? So what is this phrase seems to be about is the intellectual content of gaming. Does it improve your life skills? How worthy is playing computer games in the long run, pertaining to your life?

Not really. Some people can turn video games into a career, also video games are used for so many things. They are used for teaching, training the U.S. Military, they are used for so many things. You should read "What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy" by James Paul Gee. This book has taught me that video games can be used for anything, oh, and thanks to the invention of the Nintendo Wii, video games are being used for just about everything. Also, once you have played Tetris, you never want to go back!

I think they are addictive. People loose social skills becuase they only play games and do not interact with actual people. The ones that can be used as exercise like the Wii Fit or learning, are more beneficial.

Yes playing video games is an absolute waste of time. You can use the time which you are using to play these games in a more useful manner. At the same time, I would like to say that I am not against video games, and it is alright to play games with your mobile phones when you are waiting for a long time in certain places. In this way you can keep to yourself without chatting with strangers. I really hate this so called hard core gamers who not only play in their houses, but also go to the video arcades and show off.

I don't think all video games are a waste of time, especially if you play them moderately. They can be a great way to have fun with friends- like playing party games like Mario party or Rock band or quiz games. I think video games can also help develop hand-eye-coordination. I played nintendo and gamecube a lot growing up, and driving a car came really easily to me- I credit it to practic from playing vieo games. w

Hi olisaur: i agree with you and i also have to add that a responsable person knows how to acomplish the game hours with their own responsabilities. In general video games have a negative perception for the parents but they can bea good tool if we know how to use them and of course there ares ome games that are more recommended for a kid that the others. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. Alvaro.

As a gamer, i disagree with your statement. Videogames are a hobby and are used for entertainment. Any hobby could be seen as a waste of time. Videogames help promote social interaction between those who are often unsocial. The more you play games, the more commited you become to other things. If you have the patience to play 20+ hours on one game, then you probably have enough patience to get things done. They also relieve stress and improve hand- eye coordination.

Video games are just a form of entertainment to kind of relax people, some people like video games. My husband and I both do, but also nothing beats just the great outdoors, which we both enjoy as well. They are making video games more intellectual and informative, allowing children to play them as young as 3 if not before that. There are video game systems just for that age group, and then their are video games coming out for other systems that are aimed at children for educational purposes as well.

I know its a big controversy and that there are a lot of people who would like to banish video games forever,I definitely do not think video games are a waste of time I think they are a wonderful pastime which can give enjoyment to anyone, they are also a good source of stress relief, and now with the Nintendo Wii they can also be used as a fun and effective way to lose weight, and games can also teach you some things like how to be strategic and think outside the box,and I think more people should try video games before they decide they are a waste of time.

Actually, anything caused by technology has both side on it: the advantage and disadvantage. So we should realized it to make the best useful aspect of the thing. Take playing game for example, it's really good for your agility of brain. And we can make friends through the Internet Game. But if we have addict on it, the bad things will follow: no effort to work, no effort to study and the long time in front of the computer will lead us to the bad healthy, doesn't it?

whats the point of living if you spend all your time working to live and living to work? Life itself would become a chore and thus LIFE would be a waste of time. If you enjoy playing video games then you should bloody well play video games, just not 24/7. likewise tv and reading don't have to be informative, they should be fun. if you can't enjoy the money you earn then why bother?

I don't think kids should play video games as much as they do, because the kids in America are getting ridiculously fat, but a little time playing video games is ok.

hello ... at first i though i was a hardcore gamer, but then i had to admit that no, i'm even less than a casual gamer. to the question: is it a waste of time? - NO! it is a way of spending time, not wasting! it all depends on your preferences & taste about simple pleasures. i play games for the fun, the challenge & sometimes the logical questions they may raise at some time. it also allows me to get out of routine life. comparison to TV or any other things related - well some people would rather watch TV than go for a walk, it may be bad if becomes a habit. i think for everything like watching TV, playing games or even reading a book, one must do it with at least some controls. a student must give priority to homework & researches, while the one who needs some exercises will try at least to go for a walk before anything as such. don't forget that TV can be also a source of valuable information while still being the best indoor entertainment. Does it improve you life skills? - somehow, games players are not all teens with acnes & big glasses, this is a cliche that needs to disappear, in fact everyone can be a gamer. the puzzles in most recent games helps in developing logical senses in gamers, while the action or adventurous part helps us to be creative or develop some kind of strategies. Long play is bad, i know about it! it is not worth it to go through an entire life in virtual world but this applies to everything not just to games. we must do whatever we want with some control & moderations because any habit good or bad ends to be bad for anyone. cheers!

I think playing games is a hobby. Like watching movie or reading books. Gamers should get something from playing games. Only playing may become wasting time if player spend too much time for it.

Who cares? I play video games quite a bit and I don't really consider it a waste of time because all time I spend playing video games is generally fun and entertaining. You can also gain a sense of achievement from completing parts of the game and I can easily be sucked into these digital worlds. The newer games that are coming graphics are becoming more breath taking each year. I personally don't think they are a waste of time, no much more then wasting your time working when you could be having fun I suppose. But we all have different goals and opinions.

i strongly agree that video games are a waste of time. Likewise, instead of playing video games, I rather work to earn for a living. Playing computer games is not that worthy enough to spend such time with it. But if there is way that you can earn money through playing i guess i will try. But for now, i think there is no such thing on earning while playing.

According to my experience, I used to play video games when I had time, and now I hate to play any games because of lacking of time. Although to play games was a good choice at that time, if I have changes to choose again, I would like to do some meaningful things, example learning English, doing exercise etc. In another word, to play games will let you far away from sadness or something similar, example when I was in bad emotion, I would like to play games to let time pass me away.
