For all my female friends on Mylot. Do you cut your hair and then dye it or do you dye it first then cut your hair. Just wondering if there is a right way or not? Thanks

Hi lelin! I don't dye my hair but I do have them cut. And I think either way works. But I would suggest to cut first before dyeing (I hope I spelled it right) the hair. Simply because so as not to waste too much dyeing ingredients or product when you are going to cut the hair after. You dye it and then you cut it. Sounds wrong, right hehe. Ciao!

Yes would think that but some people here in this discussion said that at their salons they dye then cut so I guess maybe its up to the individual. I'm going with cutting and then I will dye a few days later. Thanks for responding.

Oh so you are going to dye your hair. I have seen in salons too that they dye first before cutting. Don't know why and which one should really come first. But when my mom dyes her and my dad's hair, its cutting first before dying.

I'm getting mixed ideas on this. Thanks though for your response. By the way how is Ryan doing after a week from surgery?

I was waiting for both of your answers, Jo. What you say is what my aunt´s niece did to me (she is also a hairdresser). You should see my looks now. It is quite different as when I did it myself. It will take a while to totally stop hurting ( Ryan´s surgery). The good thing about icecream (or better still sherbet) is that ice anesthesises the mouth. Do keep me posted on how he is. Hug!

I have mine done at the beauty shop. I get color once a month but I just have it trimmed every so often. When I have it trimmed, my hairdresser puts the color on first, washes it, and then trims it. She doesn't take any length off, though. You see, my hair is pretty long and I'm trying to get it to my waist, maybe even longer. It's about midway down my back now. I tried coloring my own hair one time and I said I would never do it again. I made the awfulest mess all over the bathroom and it kept running down in my eyes. Kathy.

After my hairdresser washes my hair, she will trim it if it needs it. Then, she will blow it dry and style it at the same time. Kathy.

If I had long hair I too would never color my hair myself. I have short hair and I'm very careful not to get it on anything. I'm alway afraid of staining something. I guess there isn't a right or wrong way of doing it. Thanks for the response.

My hairdresser always dyes it first and then cuts it. I'm really not sure why, but she is very good at what she does and I am sure she has a good reason for doing it that way.

I never dye my hair, but I see in salons they dye hair then they dye it. I really don't know why.

I cut my hair and then dye it. I really have no reason for it. I just figure it is a good way to do it.

I never dye my hair, but of course, I have it cut at least once a year. But I think they must logically cut before dying hair, because it's useless to dye the part of hair which will be cut later.

I have always cut my hair first and then dyed it. That is how my salon girl does it anyway:) Speaking of dying hair. I am WAY overdue in dying my own hair! :)

I have my hair dyed first then cut to a style I fancy at the time,If you have your hair cut first you may change you mind about how short you have your hair,if you cut it first you have no choice.Unless of courst it is down your behind and that lot is going anyway.

I would have it cut first, just to avoid having to have it washed (usually they wash your hair when they cut it - and this causes fading right after you dye it) but that's just my opinion. I don't usually get my hair cut (I tend to do it myself..Yeah. I'm weird!) but I dye my hair all the time.

When I get my hair cut I don't have them wash it, they just wet it. I have very fine short hair. Thanks I think I will just wash it first then dye a few days or a week later. Thanks so much for responding.

I don't know if there is really a right or wrong way but the woman that colors and cuts mine always colors first and them cuts..even if I just need a trim, she still colors first

It's always best to dye, then cut. If you dye after you cut, it's a lot easier to miss spots. I have always liked to cut and do my own hair, and I learned this technique the hard way, lol.

I ususally get my hair cut at a salon but I dye my own hair. Thanks for the response.

I think it is best to cut it first. For example if your hair is long and you cut it first then you will use less hair dye or If you are getting hightlights on your hair then that way you won't mess them up with a hair cut after.

Yes in cases of long hair I understand that. My hair is short though. However, when thinking about it cutting it first and then waiting to dye will be the best way to do it. Thanks for responding.

I was always taught that if you got your haircut you should wait a few days to color it so the ends don't absorb more color than the rest. Or you should color it and then cut it. I'm not sure if any of this matters but I did read it years ago on the directions of some hair dye. It seems to make sense so that's what I go with...lol Perhaps there is someone out there that will tell us the secret. Brightest blessings, Mari
