Have you ever had a housekeeper?

United States

December 9, 2009 I had one for about six months and I absolutely loved it! She would come every Friday and take care of the stuff that made my life so much easier. I got spoiled after we left there and now I'm wishing I had her here, she was very nice and we knew her name and talked with her often. Ever had a housekeeper?

No never had a housekeeper - I don't really need one but, I would still rather do everything myself than have a starnger come into my home as I like everything done in a very particular way!

No I have never had a housekeeper. I sometimes wish I did have a housekeeper but as I can not afford to pay for one I will just have to keep doing my own housework.

I wish! I can't even get the kids to put their plates in the sink! I certainly would love a housekeeper.... as long as someone else is footing the bill.

we do the paper plate thing too, but not always. My kids are little but the oldest should know how to do such things and my middle will fall into place as well. But you know they each seem to listen better when the others are out of the house ect... Someday I'll become more consistant & that'll make things easier besides unplugging the tv ect wich I do if they don't do as I ask of them.

I personally have never had a housekeeper even though I guess you could say my mother is like the housekeeper lol because she would do the laundry, the cooking, and everything else around the house, and she also worked as a housekeeper for some rich people for a while, and they paid her to do their laundry and basically help them survive because these people were so stupid they would not even know what a trash can was and would leave stuff all over the place,so my mother would have to do everything for them.

This housekeeper was part of the apartment complex, it was nice to have her come and clean. It gave me a break and it helped the apartment complex because when we moved out they didn't have to charge us to clean up the place.

That is neat I have never lived in an apartment so I did not know that apartment complexes had housekeepers but that is nice to know, but I have heard of fancy hotels having maids/housekeepers to help the rich people who come to visit and want to be waited on hand and foot lol.

how did you manage that? sounds wonderful but no ive never had one. in fact for about 30yrs untill i went into caregiving i was a housekeeper. for condos, motels, and private people it was a tough job and even when i became a caregiver as a result of my housekeeping for an elderly couple, i still had to keep house for them also

Nope never had the means to have one although the thought is nice, I dont think I would like one. I would have to clean before she came to clean! lol I hate a messy house and hate even worse for anyone to see anything not done in my house. But to dream not to have to do dishes or mop or laundry... I could go on and on. LOL!

We had one briefly, since Maggie said the house was so dirty and I was working full time and, even tho I sat all day, I wasn't in the mood to come home and clean to her perfectionistic tastes. THEN she wanted me to clean up BEFORE they came - like, what's the POINT? After they broke the handle on the tub, we stopped them. I would love one, but I don't have one. One of the roomie's cleans the floor, I do the dishes and stuff.

Ours was brief too and since they were employed by the apt. complex anything they broke they had to replace. I never cleaned up before they came, if I did that, they wouldn't clean. It has to look messy to be cleaned.

I wish i had the money to be able to afford one! My aunt had one for a while and i thought it was hilarious because she would always tidy up before she came (i dont know if thats expected or what) and make sure most things were all clean...she claimedshe didnt want her to think they were slobs and i thought well you're doing most of the things (like washing floors and cleaning the toilets and dusting) that i thought one had a house keeper to do! What sorts of things did your house keeper do for you?

She cleaned up the kitchen, took out the trash, washed the linens (towels, sheets) vacuumed and dusted. She made the beds too and cleaned up both bathrooms.

Hi, gitfiddleplayer. No I have never had a housekeeper. I can't afford to pay someone to come and clean my home. I live in an apartment. I don't think that I will ever have a maid to clean my home. I do that enough myself. I am like the housekeeper.

Well we weer never so priviledged ,my mother just took care of all the household chores and we helped out.Now that I am older and living alone in a small house I dont have the means nor see the need for one .Sometimes though I wished I had one especially to do the washing and cleaning which are two such chores that I absolutely hate and that would give me more time to mylot and stay on my computer

"keeper" of the house - A maidservant or in current usage maid is a female employed in domestic service. Maids perform typical domestic chores such as cooking, ironing, washing, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, walking the family dog, and taking care of children.
We do actually. She's not really a housekeeper but a house help. I guess those two are just the same when it comes to function. My parents and I are mostly out of the house throughout the day and we're quite busy with work and school, so we really dont have the time to clean the house, cook meals, etc. If we didnt have a house help I think our house would look like a Haunted House with all the cobwebs, dirt, creepy noises when there arent any people inside to make the noise. She gets things done around the house generally but Im the one who cleans my own room. I prefer it that way and that also eases her workload since she would have one less room to worry about.

Yeah, it is indeed. She still needs supervising though. That's why Ill cover for Mom at work this holiday break so she can totally clean every nook and cranny of the house with the housekeeper's help. I think that's in preparation for the new year as well.^_^

No, I never have! I would want mine to come every Monday or Tuesday cause after the week end I think we would need her. I can't imagine a woman have a housekeeper unless she had a very busy job and schedule. If a woman has some sense she can keep things tidied up quite nicely unless she is just too busy at work.

No I have not but if I could afford one I would get a housekeeper! I hate cleaning and I am disorganized! I would love to have like a well know cleaning company to do it! I would even have them clean the carpets every few months! This is one of my dreams!

I have never had a maid, but believe me there are times when I would love to have a maid. Right now my life is hectic with school and I have not had as much time to clean as I would like to. I know once I finish school I will have time to go back to cleaning once a week. Money is so tight that my husband and I can not afford a maid.

Thank you. It was nice to have a clean house, I keep one generally but if somebody else does it, it seems to be more appreciated.
