Hello... It is common in my country that if you are a girl your name ends in the letter A such as Diana, Emma, Laica, Jessica, and so on. When I had a male friend from India, his name ended ended in A. He asked me if he could call me by another by another name which ended in U such as kushbu because it would be a girl's name for him and I told him it wouldn't matter because he is in our county but he told me it does s I just said all right. When I arrived home, I asked my mother where and why did they gave me my name. She said it came from a flower's name which my father and mother both loved the scent. Friends have you ever wondered why were you given your name and why?

Hi, infact all name has some meanings or are synonims of other names. Like my name is Ashish and it means blessings. Although this is very common name here in India, but does not matter. Like I have kept my son's name as "Aarush" means the first ray of the sunlight. I have searched a lot on net and found many name with their meaning and then finally my family and I decided to keep this name as this is not so common as of now. I have almost list of 5000 names of girl and boy with their meanings which I have saved while searching name for my baby a year back.

Hi, In India among Hindus the first letter of the name of the child is chosen by a priest after consulting the birth star and time. Then the parents look for a likely name starting with that letter. Earlier they kept at least 3 names. One , in honour of the family diety, one in honour of an ancestor and lastly a name for the child. So we do have some people belonging to the older generations carrying all three names which themselves would be long...quite confusing lol.. My name is usha kiran which means morning sunshine. My mother selected the name because she liked a hindi actress who had the same name...

Many people say there is nothing in a name, but I don't believe it. Your name is your identity, it is soemthing that makes you different from others, and you are closely attached to your name. Sometimes we imagine about a person, just by listening to the name.I don't like the idea of naming children with no meaning. There should be a meaning or a name. My name is the name of a beautiful flower and I like it.

Yes, I asked my parents how they named me. They said originally they named me with some other name. But my sisters and their friends did not get that name properly and were wrongly pronouncing it in a funny way. So my parents wanted to change my name. There was a beautiful girl in that road. May be my parents had high hopes that their daughter also will be beautiful like her. So they took half name from her name and added another suffix to that and named me.

This is an interesting discussion... My babtised name is Stine, which origines from Christine, which comes from Christian, which means beeing Christian, believer of Jesus Christ. I dont know why my parents choose this name for me and i have asked them, and the simple answer was my dad found it had a nice sound to it when you said the name, because my family is not religious as such at all... (read we go to church at weddings, babtizings and burrials...)

hey, that's interesting to know that some names ended deliberately with the letter A. If you didn't mention it, I would never notice that. Well, it's more common in my country, China that names are given to embody parents' expectation of their children or the combination of the surnames of the parents or the birthplace of the kids. for example, my name is given from the very eminent ancient Chinese music called San Qing music. This piece of music is considered the supreme in China and none would ever surpass it. Yet, my father hold a humble attitude when he gave me my name, he changed one word, San, which means three into Ya, which means infere to, or the second to show respect of this piece of music. Not many people know the origin of my name, yet, I do meet some who can correctly pronounce my name because they know what my name should have mean. These people are normally hostess from Radio Station or some other well-educated people.

Hi prettychai! My name ends with ko which is common for a girl and it as a short form of "kodomo" which means child. Examples of girls names are Sachiko, Kazuko, Reiko and Naoko. Boy's names often ends with ki such as Hiroki, Yasuyuki, Naoki and Kenji. My name was taken from the kanji "shiawase" which means happiness. Every country has trends on giving their children names. Mine is still based on tradition.

My first name is Katie, and it means pure in Christian meaning and it came from the goddess Hekate. My parents named me it because my Grannie really liked it, my full first name is Katarina, which is Ukrainian. My middle name is Rose, from my grandma who's name was rose and also my placenta was buried under a rose bush which made it flourish greatly.

I know exactly why I was given my name. It's slightly embarrassing but my name means "elf leader" I was given this because my father was a huge sci-fi freak. When I have children I am going to do deep research on the name so they can have a name to carry that will make them proud. My child will definitely not be the kid named "Justin Case" in his school.

I am adopted 30 years ago and my biological mother gave me the name "Rezeki" what means 'LUCK'. My adopting parents gave me three dutch names, with my original name in it. 'PEACE','BORN AGAIN','LUCK'. When my son was born i gave him the name 'RYAN'what means such as 'LITTLE KING'. I find it important to know what kind of meaning a name have.

hi, It depends on parents thinking. Some people keep there children name with an intention and some never think about the names and just keep there names or some ancestors names. Some also keep gods name like in india krishna, gopal, laxshmi etc all these are god names. Some may be inspired by great leaders or serial character, movie characters...like that. So as ur parent liked the flower they kept the name.Similary my name was inspired by a novel character name where the character is a doctor by profession and my mother like the character. Though my name have some meaning my parent kept there favorite character name.

My name is from the Hebrew language, and it means 'a female sheep' and 'one with innocence'. My mother named both my brother and I from the bible, though she told me she picked two names for me, and which ever name I looked like when I was born was what she would name me. It was between Heather and Rachel, and luckily I looked like a Rachel, so my name is Rachel Ann. My first name she chose after her favorite soap opera star [haha!] and my middle name was chosen to continue her great-grandmother's name. I plan, if I have any girls, to name one of my girls with the name Ann it her name somewhere, whether it be something like a first name 'Roseann', or have her middle name also be Ann.
