I am a person who doesn't really like to be surprised with a gift.
as the years go by, I'd rather have something that I really want, that i can really use.
rather than getting a $30 present i hate, I'd rather get a $10 present i actually like.
So this year, when people ask me what i'd like, I'd say Vouchers. I suppose some people don't like giving cash since it seems insincere, and some people might just hoard it and keep it in the bank instead of getting themselves something.
vouchers have expiry dates so i'd end up getting myself something.
shopping centre vouchers are especially useful since there is a chain of shopping centres that has 3 of my favourite shops and i have great options on what to use the vouchers on.
another flexible thing about vouchers is that people can give you as much or as little as they can afford.
the only thing is that you would know exactly how much that person has spent on you (which is nice sometimes too).

Vouchers as in gift cards or gift certificates? My husband and I make a list for each other and his mom so we know what to get each other, and have an idea of what we're going to get. In that sense we know it will be something we like, of course, his mom usually gets us something else as well that we don't know about.
I know that I also don't like to be surprised, and so that's why I like making the lists... of course I do enjoy a "surprise" gift too, I just don't like too much surprises.

I tell people or tend to drop people hints what i want as that way i tend to get what i have asked for rather than things that i will never use or things that i already have. This year i have told my husband what i wanted just like last year as he never has a clue what to get me.

I dun like the question at all.. lol =D
Because it will be so hard to answer them!! If we set it too high, i might seem to taking advantage of them.. And if they were to want the same gift or equal amount, wont it be better that i buy it on my own, rather than waiting for christmas?? lol =D
BUt if i were to set it lower, i will seem like, letting myself down.. lol =D BUt i guess vouchers should be a good idea though.. hehe

I guess I kind of dream of major things that I would like to experience and have and well, at the top of the list it has to be a huge home with an indoor swimming pool as well as an indoor gymnasium! It's nice to dream and have pictures in your mind of these things. When it comes to reality though it's always nice to receive a present of any kind, it's the thought that counts. I think that vouchers are a great idea as it then gives the person the choice of buying what they want from the store that the voucher relates to. Merry Christmas! Andrew

I'm different from you in that I am the kind of person that likes to be surprised with the gifts that I get as long as the person has made a sincere effort to give me a gift that they think that I will enjoy. I'm not really a fan of getting gift cards for Christmas for the simple fact that when someone gives me a gift card as a gift, I don't feel like they've put very much thought into the gift.
For me, I'm also generally a very easy person to buy for as well because if you listen to me you are able to read everything that I would like to have, but I don't stick with one particular item, there is basically a list of things that I need/want.

I am tired of getting things for Christmas that I do not want or like also. I am tired of explaining to people my likes and dislikes too. No matter how many times I explain it, I never get something, that truly fits my style whether I ask for it or they buy it on their own. I have a hard time even buying it for myself too.

I just hope it isn't Popular vouchers that you will end up with. lol. Just like any true kiasu Singaporean, I prefer cash, but I do not like vouchers. Most of the times, I either forgot about the vouchers or that I have no use for the vouchers as I do not like the idea of spending some more money just to redeem the voucher. Santa Claus should have started a new tradition - give angpow during Christmas! Ho!ho!ho!. Merry Christmas to you and family.

Yeah... I too, like you would prefer something that I like rather than be stuck with an expensive gift that I do not treasure.
So, whenever some one asks me what I want, I would usually ask for vouchers. Saves them the headache of trying to figure out what I want, and save me the trouble of getting something I do not want. Win-win situation.

Well I am the opposite of you. To me money is insincere. This one year that was all my family gave out to each other and it felt so impersonal. So I give my family a 'theme' that way they know what I want but I am not just asking for the money. Plus, people tend to spend more on gift shipping as opposed to just giving out money.
My theme this year is 'backpacking' so they know I want anythign that has to do with backpacking. Thats just how I do it.
