Are the Twilight books ACTUALLY worth reading?

Ok, another Twilight discussion. I'm sure you're thrilled. LOL. But this one isn't coming from an obsessive fan; it's coming from someone looking in from the outside and wondering whether or not it's worthwhile to actually read the rest of the series. I read the first one a few years back..And while I thought the "love story" aspect of it (which seems to be the MAIN aspect if you ask me), was cute, but I was totally bored by how .. lovey-dovey and dramatic it was. I had gone into reading them because I figured there would be a lot of suspense and thrill, which most supernatural teen books have plenty of, and I felt like I was reading a Danielle Steel novel (with a slight twist, of course). I felt honestly disappointed, and that's the main reason I haven't gone back to reading the rest of the series.
Does anyone else share my opinion on this? Were you PLEASANTLY or UNPLEASANTLY surprised with how the books turned out?
And for those of you who've read these books already, tell me: can I expect more adventure in the 2nd and 3rd book? Or are the other books a continuum of what I noticed before: a slightly boring, love-centered "romance" book (with an edge)?
What should I come to expect? Is it worth reading the rest of the series, do you think?

I tend to hate books with a lot of hype behind them. And I DEPISE vampires. I think they've taken over the mythical creature category and it's high time they were dethroned by mermaids or something. So I suppose you can imagine how shocked I was when I actually liked Twilight.
A friend of mine convinced me that I had to read it and she sneaked it into my reading stack. I was bored without a book to read, so I started Twilight. Then I couldn't stop. It's quite funny actually.
I've read and loved the whole series. My favorite was Breaking Dawn. I know it's the one subject to the most fandom-hate, but I loved it. So in my opinion, yes they are worth reading. But people are different and they like different things. It's all just a matter of taste. If you were hoping for suspense and thrill, then you might enjoy Eclipse and Breaking Dawn more than Twilight. But I don't know if you would be able to get through New Moon. It's up to you. You don't have to read the rest of the books just because everyone else likes them.

NO. That's the simple answer. The more thorough answer would be: I've read the whole series, including the manuscript that was leaked and is not hosted in Stephanie Meyer's site and I could say that the love story you're interested to is kiddie compared to the more reputable romance novels (something like the works of Judith McNaught and Jude Deveraux).
Although I have to admit that the third and fourth installations were way better than the first two, I still believe my time would have been better spent on better novels.
I have to warn you though, I'm more of against it than a passive reader. I actually blogged about Twilight and I got pretty awful comments from fan girls - too sweet! LOL

Hi maezee,
The Twilight Saga is definitely worth reading, I didn't think it was at first and I wasn't sure what the big hype was. Than I received the books last Christmas and started to read them right away, their definitely worth your time and money. I'm so glad I read the books, they we're very good and way better than the movies because the movies leave out a lot of detail that the book provides. Their honestly not that lovey-dovey, it's a great story and I'm hoping to read the Saga again soon. I made sure to read the books before I saw the first movie because I figured I would just picture the movie the whole time if I saw the movie first. I personally read the whole Saga before I even saw the first movie for that very reason. Everyone is going to have different expectations about the book so the only way to tell if your going to like the books are to read them for yourself. I can't wait to read them again, but I love reading anyways.
