Going through my "ADD/REMOVE programs" thing!

Today I decided that I want to clean up my computer a little bit, by uninstalling and removing some programs that I don't ever ever use. One being all the software and programs that I have on my computer for the camera that has been broken and un-fixable since about July of this year! Whoa, right? I'm a little late. But I like feeling like I'm cleaning up space on my computer (despite I think we have an 80 gig hard drive.. Oh well)] How often do you do stuff like this? What are some of the programs you've deleted recently, and why did you delete them? Here's my list so far: AOL Messenger (have not used in literally years!) All of my Canon dig. camera programs Google Picasa (free trial). I haven't used this in ages! Limewire (I already feel like a better, more law-abiding person after uninstalling this. Yay!). What about you?

I've always remove unnecessary programs that I'm rarely using on my pc. Most of them were pluggins toolbar from those search engine, redundant instant messaging tool such as aol since I don't have account on it. I also remove those installed games that I've done playing.

ya, mostly we add programs when we read about it and after some days we find out that we do not ise that program even for a single time. So, we remove it. i removed 'age of empire 3' and all it's extensions packs from my computer because it took 11 GB of my c drive. Instead i prefer to go with AOE 2

When I feel like deleting the programs, I will remove them however not from Add/Remove Programs, I used Revo uninstaller to uninstall applications. Revo uninstaller provides an indepth cleanup which includes registry and leftover files. Therefore, in addition to uninstall, it searches the registry for its registered keys and allows you to select and delete. This will greatly improved on the computer's performance. Second, simple uninstallation may leave some files unable to remove, revo uninstaller is able to remove those left over files. Above all, it is open source software. Isn't it great to have one?

It is always nice to clean up the system whenever you are free, as it always helps in increasing the speed of your computer while it functions. All the unnecessary things should be removed which I also practice doing so that problems like hanging does not occur in my pc!!

Oh,I am a complete system cleanliness freak! My laptop is an Hp Pavilion dv2000 and it is slow as a snail.I keep removing unnecessary files and defragmenting it time and again to keep it working smoothly.I also use a pen drive as a memory boosting device. Then,I have a Registry Cleaner software and an Add/Remove Program cleaning software too.Despite all my efforts,my system still remains average speed at the end of the day.I wish there was more I could do!!..:)

it happens a ot that you want to do something, and that you have to install a programm to do so. This is mostly something you only want to do once or twice, and after that, the programm is unused. When you're cleaning up your computer, you realise you have dozens of unused programms.

Gosh! This post sure reminds me to start cleaning my computer once more. I did a major overhaul last time, around 3 months ago or so. I moved all the big Apple programs to an external hard drive. It's just my old computer's hard disk, which I connected to my Macbook (13" white, 2nd Gen) using an IDE to USB drive which I got from a local white box computer accessories store. I didn't exactly "clean" anything. I just dumped everything to the drive. XD Reminds me to start transferring my garbage once more. Heheh. :D Thanks for reminding me, albeit unwittingly! :D

It's really good to carry out this task and it can definitely benefit your system. I keep tabs on what is contained within my Add/remove programs list so there's nothing there that I no longer use or have forgotton about. I also carry out other tasks daily like using the disk cleanup utility as well as going into Internet Options and deleting all the browsing history and cookies. I do this on a daily basis after my Internet session and it only takes about two minutes, not much time and this has lots of advantages for your system. By doing this on a regular basis you can definitely keep your system running smoothly. I guess there's a good saying and I don't know the exact words but it goes something like this "If you look after your computer, it will look after you!" You will have many years of pleasure and satisfaction. It's been quite a while since I last installed any hardware, this is another reason why my Add/remove programs list isn't that full! Andrew

well, i really dont care about the programs installed in my system as all the programs installed in my pc are already tested in Virtual Environment by me and all the apps are regularly used by me. Also the hard drive space is quite large that it can easily accommodate most of the programs as i had allotted 50GB for the operating system. And i had a habit of formatting the operating system after every 2-3 months. So all the junk programs or unused files gets automatically deleted by formatting.

Hi Maezee, Do you know onething? our desktop reflects our personality, if you keep your desktop and your system clean (i.e., without having any unwanted programes) your personality is related to that. Keep a habit of removing unwanted files, icons or programmes from your computer for every 3 months.

I haven't done this in a while. I should do it soon. The kids download a lot of online games on the desktop, it needs a clean up! I've been trying to transfer all my pictures into skydrive. Those are the only important files in my computer anyway. As soon as I've completed it, I'm thinking of just wiping the drive clean. For fresh start! Maybe changing my Vista back into an XP.

I perform a complete cleanup about every 6-10 months on my computers. What it does is basically wipes the drive clean (make sure you have every thing backed up that you want to keep, ie pics, music, etc) and lets you put back on what you use\need. Its also allows Microsoft operating systems to run better by cleaning up junk. Pretty easy to do, most new computers have the format and install system configured in wizards on cds or programed on the hard drive partition. See your documentation that came with pc on how to do it.
