I was surprised to see some many homeless people in the USA when I was traveling there. I watched a program about some British teenagers and they went to help out at a homeless shelter. Sadly one of the homeless men had to leave because he gave the teenage girl a cigarette. How do people become homeless? What can be done to improve the lives of homeless people?

I think we are going to see more of it. With jobs leaving and homes being foreclosed on, and unemployment running out, people have no where to turn. It is sad. We have to find a way to make more jobs available to get people back on their feet.

Ever since the industrial revolution happened, and the monetary system came into existence, poverty has increased on earth. People become homeless because man wants to accumulate more and doesn't want to share what he has with another. First and foremost there has to be free flow of money, and we must put an end to corruption. But how many of us want to donate even a single dollar or rupee from our pockets? Do we really want to do that? And when we donate money in the name of charity to all these organizations, does this money really go for the help of the needy. I've been seeing poor people in my country all my life, but nothing has been done, but at the same time, I've seen a few friends of mine from the slums work hard and become successful businessmen and build their own houses. Today, begging has become a huge business in my country and that's why none of us feel pity for them anymore. It's like a mafia now. People are employed as beggars by their bosses. It's a very complicated situation and it's not easy to bring a solution to these things. Most of them have accepted it as a way of life, and even when somebody tries to help them, they don't want to improve their lives. There have been attempts at even educating these street children, but their parents force them again to begging, and they don't want their children to study. Well, I am talking about the situation in my country. Certainly it could be different in USA.

maximax8 how, very simple, the breadwinner loses his job, me his mom is 83, no job, small social security check, we run out of money,we get evicted, now see us we were homeless, a middle class mom, and adult son, so in this horrible economy with men and women being laid off and few jobs, its pretty damned easy to find you are homeless. I was put here in gold crest so I would have a place to stay, my son, still out of wo rk,is ina gov sponsored apt, and will have to soon find another place, so yes its too d amned easy to become homeless and if you have no other r elatives you are doomed to be homeless. its horrid, its demeaning and nobody here seems to give a damn for those families who were evicted and lost their homes and their jobs. someone should really fix things but those who are housed and well off could care less.what can be done, make jobs and make affordable housing. thats all just that.

There are so many reasons people become homeless. It is hard to say why it is that way for the many in this country. It is so sad to see people living on the streets. My three year old and I were just talking about this on Sunday. He actually asked me about it and we talked for nearly 45 minutes about the reasons people are homeless and what we might be able to do to help. I actually pick up applications from random places and put clothes in my car that I have grown out of or no longer need. When approached by homeless people I kindly hand them an application that I have on hand and offer them a few dollars. I have also gone to the YMCA and got guest passes to hand out to people so they can go and take a shower.

As sad as this may sound... there are actually people in the US who get up every morning, put on their worst raggy looking clothes and head out to the streets to beg for money. They then return to their warm homes and count their earnings from the day.

It is sad to know that, I am glad also to realize that there are still people around like you who still care for the homeless. For me to improve the lives of these homeless is not an easy task for just only one, a united effort by choosing our right government leaders then call for them to focus on this concern is the most feasible way. However if our means can afford private move from us to address this problem, then it is also great.

I live in usa and yes i have notes that there are too many homeless at the streets. But there is no reason for such a ting there a lot and I really mean a lot for non profit organization that try to help them. But many of them just decided to don't take any help or maybe they just like to live on streets. i think they become homeless because in some cases they r too lazy or lost their job to pay their rent.

I think number of homeless people is going to be even more after this horrible economic situation around the world. It seems the economic condition of peoples life mostly to be blamed for people becoming homeless. Sometime it is because of other situation too, like mental problem or loneliness.

Hiya sweetlady10, But I think that this kind of condition mental illness is often made worse it goes hand in hand with the becoming isolated from People and the People rejecting them. As for loneliness they are going to be forever lonely as others continue to treat them like subhuman creatures. I just remember that I could be in their place and thank God that although I have got very near to it it has happened yet and hope it never will.

Hi max. Homeleessness is a big problem here in Australia slao. I believe there are many reasons. It is well publicised why many teens leave home, but with the elderly, I think they have a problem with heir family, or thry are just loners.

Becoming homeless occurs for a number of reasons. Divorce can leave someone with out a home. Job loss, money issues. Some people can no longer afford to pay for a place to live so they have to live where ever they can. Once homeless, it is hard to recover. Credit destroyed. Self-esteem gone. Shame and guilt set in. Depression increases. To improve the lives of the homeless, don't treat them worse than they already feel. Offer them a smile and a word of encouragement.

Hiya royal52gens, Was watching a program for a while about this being homeless last night and in Spain there is a really bad Housing crisis. There has always been a Housing crisis here but now it is really chronic. Most People can just afford to get by and the other People on the Street cannot afford to pay this kind of Rent they are now asking for. I would say it´s true that a few prefer it that way but others would gladly go back to a House or Flat today. It´s also true that there are like groups of People that get others to beg for them and it´s really hard to know who is real and who is not. There are so many scams in Spain that no one is very willing to give money anymore as they fear it will end up in the wrong person´s pocket and not the most needed. Some of these People have been on the Streets for Years.

well some are definitely homeless by choice but with the downturn of the economy, some people are not eligible for social assistance but are out of a job for whatever reason and if they cannot afford their house, they sometimes have no place to go to.

I was also surprised by what you have said that there are homeless people in the USA, i just think that USA is the most progressive country and there are no homeless people around there. here in our country, there are lots of homeless people too since some of them don't have work to support themselves and to their family.

its wild how there are homeless people and there are rich people who could careless for poor people and would rather buy both that are worth 4000 dollars. I live in new york, upstate now. I was raised in Bronx, new york. down in Manhattan, new york there are tons of homeless people. It is really sad and also scary. I went down to go to Florida by bus and in the terminal they're would be homeless people there asking you for money and sometimes take no for answer. I was with my kids and my wife what if he wanted to attack us cause I didn't want to give money, pretty scary stuff.

Hi Maximax8, This is a question that I had also asked at the time I was in USA. I got this answer : 1. In America, the main thing is trust. Most transaction using Credit Cards, Buying a car with Credit, And can be traded. When someone loses trust, he will lose everything, could even his work. There is a database system that tell everything about a person. Each person has a Social Security number. They use this number as their ID number for almost everything. So it's easy to get record of a person; Bad or good, Blacklist or not. 2. The second thing is to choose the job. There are so many work to be done. The immigrants can live well, although only worked as a dishwasher. even in some states, many factories which required workers must take the immigrants. Of course there are still many reason. But the 2 reason above are the main reason. This is The answer I got from my American friend

My wife works at a restaraunt that is across the street from a homeless shelter. A few of them come to eat prior to retiring for the night at the shelter. I have talked to a few and some are homeless by their own choice actually. They say if they rent a place they would be so broke anyhow. This way they pay a few dollars a night and have a lot more left over each pay period. She has also fed them a few times and given them coffee free as well. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~
