Do you hang your certificates up on the wall?

Certificates hanging up on the wall - The reasoning for hanging certificates up on the wall

I have nothing against people who do this, I'm just curious. I don't like to do it, but my boss asked me to hang one up for a training I went to where the company spent a fair amount of money. But, personally I don't like to do it. What's the motivation to do this? You would see ones displayed on the walls of doctors and dentist's offices. I think my mom has mine up in my old room. I think she gets a sense of pride from this. How about you?

Ha. I definitely understand this. I'm thinking, in my opinion, it seems a little boastful to plaster your many awards and certificates on your walls in your home or office. Maybe this is just my opinion, though. It just seems too.. LOUD if you ask me. It's not like you need these things to in everyone's sight to be proud of yourself for achieving them. I would rather quietly accept my accomplishments that shelf them so everyone in the world who passes by can see them. I don't know why this is, I guess I can't explain it right. ..But then again, maybe if I had more than just my high school diploma (well, I'm working on my BA @ the U of M) I might feel differently. I'll let you know in 3 years. HA.

Maybe in 3 years you might change your mind. And I think I saw somewhere that you where going (or are you taking it now?) to take political science as a pre-law. If indeed you're going to law school in the future, then that would certainly merit a certificate-on-the-wall. Don't you think?

We don't do that either..my husband has a box full of them from all the training his company has sent him for over the years, my kids have boxes of their own achievments but nothing framed and hanging on the walls. I have signs all over my kitchen and mud room that are various inspirational and funny sayings so it's not because we like nice clean walls. Maybe we are just the private type that like to keep our personal stuff to ourselves?

That's interesting! I mean having inspirational and funny sayings on your walls. Did you buy these? Or did you make them yourselves? Just asking because my kitchen has a one bare wall. Except for big clock hanging on a red wall, it's all bare. Tsk tsk tsk...

I have a big red Red Wings clock hanging on a white wall. I buy the signs and the kids and friends buy them for me now too. My grandkids' favorite one says What Happens At Grandmas Stays at Grandmas..we live by that one..especially the boys.. My grown up nieces favorite simply says..take a deep breath, you're home now, she says it always feels like that when she comes over. They're fun.

I think that it's alright to hang certificates on the wall. However, if it's just training I'd be leaving that at the office, which I suppose is what you meant? I'm not sure.

Yes, I did some training last year where the company spent $10,000 for about 6 of us. So, naturally my boss wants my cerificate up on the wall. Thanks for dropping by somecowgirl. How's the car coming?

I am all for hanging up certificates and awards and what not on walls, in say an office setting. these trainings and awards are something to be proud of after all. I have a few hanging up near my desk at work, thoughmy desk is more like a cubicle and i don't even spend much time at it, it is still a way for my self, and other people who walk by my desk to take notice of some of the things i have accomplished. I don't/woudln't hang any up at home though i don't think. First, they woudln't fit with much of anything in the way of decor, and secondly, they just don't seem homey.

You're right! I should be proud of all these accomplishments at work. And rightfully display them. I can see myself drawing upon these certificates the next time we an employee evaluation. Also, none at home for me! Maybe when my kids get older, I would change my mind. Same as my mother has all my certificates in my old room.

Yes I do. I even laminate my certificates and diplomas. I guess you can call me a sentimental person. I like to remember my accomplishments and be constantly reminded of the things that I am proud of. I inherited this trait from my mom. She even compiled my medals from my elementary years and put them in a frame. It's nice to look back and reminisce how being a kid can sometimes make you an over achiever. Only to realize later in life that over achieveing can sometimes lead to great disappointments.

No I don't have my hair certificate on my wall. I do have my daughter's graduation one in a large frame. It is not on the wall though. I never thought of a reason why not to do this. I will get out hers and put some around the house. It is a way to show her I am so proud of her. Thanks a lot.

I think my mother had the same idea! That's why she put it up. Well, it beats just collecting dust in a box somewhere! Thanks SharonJohnson!

I have a portfolio folder full of my educational certificates. I keep them in my filing cabinet. I wouldn't wish to hang them on my wall. I wouldn't want people reading them and commenting on them. I wouldn't want my certificates to get damaged. I guess people asked to hang up their certificates have to because their boss wants them to.

Yes! I don't want to hear comments like, so you spent how many years in college and all you got was this lousy certificate? Thanks for dropping by maximax8.

Yes, I meant to say certificates and diplomas. Good on you for not hanging them on the wall! So where do you keep them?
