Remember to Focus on the Good Moments

United States

I often hear people say that they are having a bad day, or that their life sucks. They seem to forget that it isn't the day that is bad nor the life you have that sucks. There are moments in our day that are good. Remember that life is a gift we are given. What we choose to do with it is ours. Focus on the moments of good and the moments of bad will not seem so significant. Big huggers to you.

That is a valuable piece of advice. We should all focus on what's good in a day or in life, and not what's bad. We dwell on what's bad and it brings us down whether we mean for it to or not. I know it's easier said then done, but we can all find ways to make us happy when we're blue!

Just take a single pleasant moment and focus on that and many more take seed.

You remind me of a story I read, maybe even on here, of a man who thought about his flowers as stages, I can't remember exactly the story and I am not that great at explaining things either, lol...

I often have trouble repeating a story. But, I can remember enough to let ya know what it is about.

hi elusivebutterfly oh yes we are all guilty of that at times, so filled with the bad times we do not see the good moments.same with me I do not really want to be here in this retirement center,it was just because we were made homeless and at my age of 83 its hard to walk around all day then head for a homeless shelter that may or may not have room. so here I am. I have made some friends here and met a lot of wonderful people with whom I can laugh and smile, so yes there are good moments too. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you

Everyone has moments that are not good. There is nothing written that holds us to stay bound to those moments.

You have said it very well. Elusive. No matter how rough things may be going for us at any given moment we should remember that somewhere someone is going through something much worse. It is difficult sometimes, though, to stop and smell the roses.

Sometimes just seeing the roses is enough to make it through.

Hello my friend, ironically I spoke about this on our Self Esteem Course, it is so easy to dwell on the negatives or the bad things that happen in our life. I suggested creating a feel good diary, basically it's an idea of thought up, after looking through my beloved photo album of myself from a child to the man I am now and it made me feel really sad but in a good way if that makes sense, I saw myself in a different light, I came up with cute, and cute is good! I was feeling down at the time and looking through my photo album cheered me up after I had a cry! So it got me thinking what if I created a feel good book filled with positives and the good things that have happened in my life so when I feel down or depressed or as you say a bad day or life sucks, I grab that feel good book and read it! It is so easy to forget the good things we have in life or achieved or experienced so we have a constant reminder handy then that will help us get through what life throws at us! Thanks for the hugs, Wolfie hugs returned xxx

Good friend you are so right. We do not choose what happens, only how we respond to the happenings. If we look for the good we will find it. I trust you are in good spirits and finding those good moments daily.

I am having good times even in though the moments of dread wash over me. I have learned to carry an umbrella.

I totally agree with you Elusive People need to realise that in Live there are bad times and good times All of us had our Share and still have it is all part of Life and it is what you make of it If yo decide to let the bad times win then yes you will think your Life sucks but that is down to you not your Life Hugs to you

This is a great post! I'm in total agreement. I read something not to long ago how we as humans have a tendency to let one bad moment of the day dictate how we spend the rest of our day. Missing out on anything that might be happening that is good, because we can't see it since we are dwelling on that one bad "MOMENT". So much is going on that is good and we need to let the bad go so we can enjoy it. It's wasted energy to hold on to negative or bad. Nothing positive can come of it...

I had a discussion bout this with my daughter only yesterday because she was making herself miserable over something trivial. I explained to her that we need to feel sad sometimes so we can appreciate feeling happy and that each and everyday is full of good moments, bad moments and everything in between and it pays to appreciate the good times when they come. She is eight years old, therefore old enough to ‘get it’ but whether this message got through only time will tell!

That works for me. A little music or some beautiful weather or the children joking around will cheer me up every time!
