"Why do birds fly thousands of kms every year uncle", he asked me

A school going boy asked me this question. "Uncle, why do birds fly so many thousands of kms and visit vedanthangal every year? (vedanthangal is a bird sanctuary near Chennai, India) I tried to recollect what I studied in my school days. I said, " they fly thousands of kms and visit vedanthangal every year from various countries as it is a suitable place for migratory birds. They find this place comfortable during the period between November and March as the climate, food availability etc suit their needs". I looked at him hoping to have cleared his doubts. But he did not seem to be happy with my answer. He said, " no uncle this is not the correct answer". "Well, if you know the correct answer tell me now", I said. "They fly thousands of kilometers because if they walk it will take a very long time". He simply winked at me and ran away before I could beat him.

Ahh, he fooled you! Love a child with a sense of humor. The joke reminds me of the sparrows of Capistrino. The God-given instincts of birds is truly quite amazing.

Great vijayanths. LOL Time somebody defeated you with their wit. Who better than a school going kid. LOL. You have to admit, he is witty. :) Youngsters these days, they have such funny remarks. Its such a pleasure to have them around, don't you think? Don't know whether they like us around. LOL. But most are simply too polite to tell us on our faces. :)

Its sometimes wise to give children some funny answer which they expect..all depends on their mood..sometimes they are ready to do research and they want real facts..but sometimes....they are in the mood to have light answers and yes..they are happy when they are satisfied...

Your nephew has a lovely humor i must say:) But yes it is certainly because they travel to the climate and food conditions that suits them better. In Denmark the swallows comes to breed during our summer, and when it is winter in Denmark they all fly to mid africa until they come back next May... Just about the quote; "What do you say about men that has big feet?" -"They wear big shoes...."
