Who Else Shopped For Christmas Dinner Today?

Canada

Hubby and I did our groccery shopping for Christmas dinner today. We got everything, except the purple cabbage. the @#$%ing store was out of it. After we've gone to the coffee shop, Hubby's going to run to the other groccery store, and see if he can find red cabbage there. I've never NOT had it on Christmas eve, and this year won't be an exception. LOL We got schnitzel, potatoes and bacon (we tried to make German potato salad once and screwed up, but the German guy we cooked it for liked it even BETTER so we're going to make our accidental dish again! LOL), and I am going to get some stuff from the cafe for dessert. :) So, have you bought your Christmas dinner ingredients yet? What are you having, and what did you buy?

We bought our Christmas dinner on line, we aren't going to cook, we're going to help "stimulate" the economy by letting somebody else do it.

for christmas we always have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, mashed carrots and mashed turnips, and french canadian tortiere. That is our tradition. It is so interesting seeing all the different kinds of foods people have for christmas.

We have the French Canadian Tortier (meat pie or Pate) as well. It is a tradition in my husband's family to have it for breakfast Christmas morning. His Mom sent one down with some relatives this week.

that is wonderful, it is always called tortiere and not a pate, that is something else in quebec, we make our own always better than the grocery store variety. Merry Christmas

I am so glad that I saw this discussion posted because I completely forgot that I needed to get certain foods to make a dish to share at my mothers house for xmas dinner tomorrow night. I cant believe I forgot. I am so behind on everything. I know what I want to make but I don't know where I put the recipe paper for it so I have to look the recipe up online. I remember it came from a magazine and was a recipe from kraft so that shouldnt be to hard to find that site. It is large shells that you put like an alfredo sauce in and chicken. It looked really good but now I just have to find that recipe online and write it down then go down later on today and pick up all the ingredients. I dont eat meat but my husband and my parents and sister do. I always wanted to make this recipe for my husband to try but making that big of a dish for one person who wont eat leftovers would be pointless so I thought it would be great to make this dish to bring to share with others at the Christmas dinner that way I could make it and not have it go to waste. I told my sister what I was planning to make and she thought it sounded really good to so I hope I am able to find that recipe online and get down to the store and get the ingredients before it closes early for the holiday. My son is napping right now for the next few hours so I'll probably just wait until my husband gets home from work then have him watch the kids while I run down to the store. That makes it a lot easier. I already went to the post office today and took the kids and I dont really want to take them back out in the cold if I dont have to its kind of a pain to get them all bundled up and out the door.

Not me, I actually get Christmas and Christmas Eve off as far as the cooking goes. I do Thanksgiving, and my sister in law does Christmas and my mom does Christmas Eve, so I am happy to report that I get the next two days off of cooking. I will however probably have to do some cooking on Sunday as we have family in from out of town so I have to make dinner for them at least once while they are here. But I already shopped for that when I was out doing my regular shopping.

No I don't do any of the cooking or shopping Holiday or otherwise, but my wife did not either because we don't host Christmas or Christmas Eve, we visitin with my wife's family on Christmas Eve at my mother in laws house and with my family on Christmas day at my sister's house. So We don't have to do any shopping for food for Christmas except for the cookies my wife makes to bring to the events.

I am doing my grocery shopping tomorrow. I have to get a fruit tray for Boxing Day, and one for us. I bought my turkey a couple of weeks ago. I am out of potatoes so need to get those for my mashed (whipped actually) potatoes, and a rutabaga (turnip). I've already bought some gravy mix as well. Pop and chips need to be purchased for Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day.

Have not shop for my Christmas dinner yet. I wanted to get it done earlier, but I had to babysit. I did not want to take the little one with me to the grocery store. He is leaving early this morning so I am going to the store to pick up some cornish hens. I will cook tomorrow around 6AM.

My daughter is having dinner at her house and I told her to let me know what she would like me to bring after she has talked to everyone else. I am the most flexible when it comes to what to prepare and will grumble the least. The problem now is that I have a daughter who wanted the first to do 2 turkeys and 2 hams so I will have to volunteer to do one set since the one daughter is NOT doing them. She is the drama queen and is already complaining about Christmas and the company she will be in for dinner. All I can tell her is to leave when she feels that she or her girls are not where they want to be and perhaps the rest of us will have a better time. OOPS............off the topic! I helped the third daughter shop for her second Christmas celebration at HER house after she does so with us at the other daughter's with the drama queen.

Ooh, that's almost as good as what we're having - rouladen, potatoes, red cabbage, MIL's cheesecake. :-)

We had a rushed Christmas shopping for our dinner. We planned to buy the things we need a week ago but something happened along the way. However, it was fun doing the activity. Though the hassle of doing such rush is inevitable but it stimulates our body to be ready for things. And the best part, its the cooking and eating time... lol

Yep, I just got back from the store actually. We have a buffet on Christmas eve and everyone brings something. I am bringing a spiral ham and some stuff for breakfast on Christmas morning. I also made some Kaluah for the adults. It'll be a fun time. I can't wait. Hey...have a great Christmas, danish! Hope the hubby finds the red cabbage!

My husband and I bought our Christmas items on Saturday. I am making ham, baked potatoes, green beans and rolls. For dessert I will be making a Chocolate-Peanut butter pie. I have already started making cookies for the parties I will be attending (one tomorrow and one next week). I will also bring fudge (this is one of my late mother-in-law's recipes so I know between my husband and his cousin the fudge will be gone in an hour).
