The attatched photo shows the street in front of my house and the end of my friveway. I was standing in my drive taking this photo. Here in Minnesota we are having a great snow storm. Well, great for me as I love snow. We are going to have snow falling for 72 hours and upwards of 18 inches total is all. Luckily I do not have to drive anywhere except to pick my wife up at night so I have no hassle with rush hour travel etc. Nor am I traveling Christmas day. So do you have snow in your area for the holiday? Do you have to drive in it at all? Are you driving anywhere for the Holidays? HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I swear Texans, at least south of the panhandle, have no clue how to drive on WET roads, much less snowy or icy roads!

Texas is a mighty big state. You are right, they do not know much about snow.

ahhh, but I'm way south of there - it takes 8 hours to drive to Amarillo - in some places that's crossing a LOT of states - and I'm still in TEXAS! Heck - it takes more than 12 hours to drive from El Paso to Orange on I-10!

The UK as a whole has had a pretty bad time of it so far this winter with most places having more snow than they have seen for years. The funny thing is, where I live has hardly had any! I always keep a check on the weather and for the last week or so severe weather warnings have been issued saying snow was on its way, as of yet we had hardly any! Last night it started to snow, it was pretty fast and heavy too and everyone was getting excited, weather had reported my area to get 5cm but it stopped after just leaving a covering on the ground. Not even enough to make a snowball in my garden haha! But in answer to your question, no we do not have to drive anywhere over the holidays!

As you now from my 4 years of discussions here, I am used to and love the snow we get. Just in moderation though. A friend lives 5 miles from me and has only a few inches whereas I have about 8 inches. The area of heavy snow is a skinny band and so far this band has been in my area. I can make snowballs. Heck, I can make a montain for you if you wished. But you'd have to come here to get it. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That's a lotta snow! My area of Ohio isn't getting snow now but maybe on the weekend. That pleases me! I'm traveling 40 miles to my cousin's tonight and to the same area tomorrow to see my dad and stepmother. No ice, no snow, it's perfect. Although I do enjoy snow on Christmas I no longer really enjoy driving in it because of all the nutcases out there who refuse to slow down and take even the basic precautions.

My wife is closing the restaraunt at 6 tonight instead of 1o due to the roads and snow etc. I called my son and told him I'm not picking him up at midnight either tonight. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi GRANDPA BOB, We are only traveling to my sister's house, it will take us 1 hour and 45 minutes and will travel back later one in the evening, as we haven't any snow, it should make it a lot easier. Tamara

We are lucky to even get snow here although they say it is supposed to snow today! If I don't have to drive int it I would prefer not to. I remember when I lived in Colorado it was like the first time I ever drove in heavy snow on my way to work and this man was outside in his yard had a chain link fence and I slid on the road and ran in to his fence and he said don't even worry about it I see your plates have Texas on them! Merry Christmas Grandpa! I'm near Chicago and it's raining here. It snowed a few inches the other day and now it's raining and then supposed to freeze. That makes for some challenging driving. I have to drive to the in-laws tomorrow...about 50miles away. It'a alway nice to see everyone. Good thing you like snow!!! WOW! what a storm!

I was watching Chicago TV on satellite this morning and saw the ice forming on trees and wires ets. Hope it doesn't get too bad with ice breaking power lines etc. Good luck and stay safe out there if you venture anywhere. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It snowed all day yesterday and part of the day before. It must be the same storm you're getting. We wound up with around 8 inches here, I think - just perfect for Christmas. There won't be much driving, except for the rest of the family who live nearby coming to visit. The streets aren't bad, though. We have family visiting from Washington state and they were excited about it. :) It was and is a beautiful snowfall, gentle and peaceful, with very little wind so far.

Right now I've about 7 inches on the ground from last night. Then we are expecting another 5 to 7 inches this afternoon. Then some sleet. Friday we are expecting a few more inches then one more inch Saturday. SO a nice long snowstorm here. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We did our travelng just ahead of the storm. I have had to work with the cold and snow. I just got a call from my daughter and she is back safe at home in Minnesota. They will stay home tomorrow, as they have been on the road just over a week.

Snow covered Minnesota looks magical. I really enjoyed seeing your frosty looking photo. I live on the edge of a coastal town and my sister lives in the coastal town. I shall stay at home today, that is Christmas Eve. Tomorrow, that will be Christmas Day, I shall visit my sister. She lives a short drive away. It is icy and cold in the locality that I live in right now. People are hoping for a white Christmas. The best we will get is an icy Christmas. The snow looks so picturesque where you live. I am a learner driver and I wouldn't feel safe to drive in the snow. One of my friends was driving down a lane and slipped on the ice. He said it was a scary experience but he had to keep going because it is his work to deliver items. Happy Christmas my friend Grandpa Bob.

Just got back from going to get some smokes. Had to drive the wrong way on my one way street as a van was stuck in the deep snow. But I made it through. Barely, but I made it. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We had tonnes of snow in England for much of December and January. It was fun but it caused so much problems: no transport system - missed my holiday, damaged phone lines, crashed my car, broke my fingers.

Hello Grandpa Bob. I don't envy you! I've read your other discussion that you've already cleared up 4 inches. And for 72 hours?! That'll be a chore tomorrow. I guess later as it is already early morning there. I am here at the Pacific Northwest, and it is not snowing. The temperature is just above freezing, but I believe it is going to be sunny tomorrow. Oh, and I hate travelling through snow storms.

It was 1:20 a.m. when I started this discussion. I love the snow actually. Mostly because I don't drive much to beging with. The temp here is about 20 right now with 15 mph winds so the snows starting to blow all over. Once the plow goes by my street it will suck as the end of my drive will be filled with a small mountain of snow to clear away before I can get out the driveway. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

It is not advisable to travel during snow fall times. The road will be blocked and snow fall will be heavy. One will lose the way.

hi Grandpa Bob nope am staying here at Gold Crest with some of the 90 odd people most of them have homes to go to, and this does sting a bit, not having a home, and having to explain over and over why, this is hard, and it hurts, if people wouuld just let it go and not want details. of course I am not ashamed as many have all been in the same boat its just that before I had a home and life was like everyone else and now it is not. but I can be happy knowing my son will come see me to morrow and I have gifts to give him.We have sunshine but no snow, sure does not feel like Christmas, it was cold this morning by anyones standard around forty five but it warmed up quite a bit.Happy Holidays

We're having the first holiday snow in years here. We don't have to drive anywhere, a good thing. People where get a false sense of safety, on slippery roads, if they happen to have an SVU or pickup truck. Needless to say there will be lots of fender benders over the next few days. My son is thrilled, absolutely overjoyed. He works in collision repair.....

Yes we have snow now for the holidays and the way they are talking we could be getting a little bit of snow on Christmas Day now. I do not mine the snow it is when the wind blows and the snow is blowing and you can not see very far. It sounds like it is suppose to be late Christmas Day so if we leave my son's house before dark we may get home before the wind starts blowing or we can alway just stay over night.
