So, yesterday was BEAUTIFUL!
It was 72º, a light breeze, sun shining, no clouds. Its what makes living in Texas worth it!
Then the front came thru, we got WIND, a little rain and the temp dropped.
the HIGH today was probably right after midnight last night - it never got above the mid-40's, and the wind was still howling!
BUT - the BIG but here! Its like - sunny and pretty, then cloudy and threatening, then sunny and pretty again!
We actually got a little more sprinkle and the roomie said that 10 miles north they actually saw some snow! of course the ground it too warm to let it stick...
picture bare trees with little question marks over their "crowns" when yesterday they were probably thinking it was spring! I've actually seen a tree that was "greening" up - this kind of tree does that, the bark gets green then it starts to bud -
and its supposed to go into the 20's tonight!

Howdy from your neighbor to the north! Here in the OK metro area, we have gotten almost a foot of snow! Everything (highways, airports, churches, etc) is closed until tomorrow at the earliest. I guess this snow breaks a lot of records, and yesterday we were outside in flip-flops and shirt sleeves. Being a former New Englander, it's like home to me...lol. Merry Christmas!

When I moved here, I got rid of most of my cold weather clothes. Days like today I wish I'd kept more of them. Problem here is that the highway departments don't have the equipment to handle snow like this. The snow had stopped now, but none of the roads have been plowed. People are stranded on the highways. My son who lives with us took a room in the city for tonight. Better to be safe than sorry even though he's only a half hour away. I've been wishing for a white Christmas...maybe I should have wished for a winning Powerball ticket....

I'm in Houston, Texas so I know what you mean. I was riding bikes with my kids yesterday, we were tossing the Nerfskin and enjoying the sun. Then the rain came and the power went out. Now its just cold. I'm sure it will warm back up.

Better get used to the bouts of cold weather. The SA weather forecaster said that we may get a repeat of the winter of 20 years ago when the temperature dropped to a low of 6 degrees F. The coldest I remember was 9 degrees F. At that time, I didn't have a retired husband glued to the weather channel whenever there was a likelihood of unusual weather. (We were both still working.)
What kind of tree was it that you mentioned?

Hi Elic, although I used to be in F now I'm in C and am useless at converting it all backwards. It's been beautiful here the last few days with warm sunshine and snow on the peaks, it never comes down here. Yesterday I drove down from the mountains and for the first time this year it looked as though autumn had finally arrived as some of the trees had red and gold leaves on them. There's more variety in the mountain route than round here where it is predominantly olive trees. We even picked the olives in sunshine three days ago. So much better than this time last year when I was huddled in a coat indoors with a hot water bottle stuffed up it. If you get anymore howling wind please keep it to yourself.

I am in Pittsburgh, and the weather here is strange also. November was warmer than normal but December seems colder than normal. A few days ago we got at least 6 inches of snow. Lots of places got a lot more so we were lucky. Today it is raining. It is to warm for it to freeze (I think it's in the 40's), but the ground is cold enough it can freeze when it lands. When it gets warm here the flowers and trees start to bloom and then it gets cold again and they die and have to start all over. Your trees will probably do the same thing as ours. I thought it was always warm in Texas. Is this normal or an example of the change in climates?

oh, there are ranches and cattle and oil, but remember, this is a BIG state, we have forests, and mountains - yes, real mountains - way out in the "Big Bend" area, high plains and desert areas. Austin is on the edge of the hill country and we have lakes - all man made, but still...

this is pretty normal, maybe a tad cooler this year than last - but last year, while the rest of the country was freezing their buns off, we only got below freezing a few times...
The beautiful day/freezing day is also pretty normal
Now, down in the Valley - where Texas and Mexico meet - it tends to stay even warmer, the farmers down there have trouble when it gets too cold, but I don't know if all these storms have done too much damage this year

I never thought of Texas as having farms either. I just think of cowboys, cattle, and oil I guess from the movies I have seen.

we are having lots of cooler weather and wind earlier than usual, or at least earlier than last year. We have some of the same ups and downs of temperatures in Kansas as well.

It was really nice on Wednesday, maybe not swimsuit weather, but nice - I was cold Thursday night and wore sweat bottoms and a sweater to bed - but I was really tired too, my body was saying "we're shutting down now - if you like it or not!"

we've been having longer periods of warm heading into winter the last few years too,
so i'd been seeing that greening also.before it snowed the grass looked like it was debating one more growth spurt.

Here in St. Louis we have gotten nothing but rain for the last 2 days. It got up to about 50 degrees today, but it is only supposed to be in the 30's tomorrow.
I bet those trees down there sure are confused. I wish the weather would decided what it wants to be like and stay that way for awhile.

hi ElicBxn I am in California and it was sunny and windy today very cold for here about 45, then tonight its supposed to go
down to just above freezing which willnot go over very big
with Irvine farms, a large ranch which grows many different veggies to the local markets. It has not snowed here in forty
five years so doubt we will have anything but sunshine tomorrow.
Merry Christmas and a most Happy New Year.

If it was 20 celcious instead of farenheit, you'd be in luck. LOL As a Canadian I always have to stop and think, when someone quotes temperature, to see which system they are using. it's pretty cool here, and there's still snow on the ground. Hey, atleast public works cleaned up the sidewalks for me. LOL

Merry Christmas. That same major storm front affecting half the continent will bring us rain and wind here in southern Ontario, with a high of about 4°C. I just hope I get to my cousin's before it starts.
