The Game of " ROOK"

United States
December 27, 2009 10:25am CST
I first want to say that I hope that mylotters you had a good holiday and looking forward to the new year and what it will bring us. That isn't what this discussion is about. Yesterday evening my inlaws called and wanted to know if we wanted to come over and play a game of ROOK..I truly enjoy playing this card game so I said great we will be over in just a few. We ended up playing till after midnight. This one game that I could play for hours and never get bored with. Is there any ROOK players out there? Do you have another card game that you like playing?

I've never played Rook but I've played my share of Rummy. I used to play all kinds of card games with my kids when they were young but being young men now, they're just not into anything that doesn't go into one of their gaming systems. I played a game of 10,000 Rummy once with a friend of mine. It took us 3 days to finish and she won by almost 3,000 points. I didn't mind losing, though. It was fun. Whenever my sister and I were at my mother's, we'd play cards. It didn't matter what the game was, we enjoyed the time spent together. I'd love to have someone to play cards with now but no one I know likes cards anymore. My son gave me a new Monopoly game for Christmas because I told him I'd like to have some board games for us all to play. I miss that time, sitting around the table playing a game and having fun. I'm glad you enjoyed playing Rook with your inlaws. I know how time can fly when you're having fun.

Oh, man! I just remembered the game I loved playing, War! I played that a lot with my sister. That's a game that can go on for hours because, even when it looks like a sure thing that you're going to win, that can change in a heartbeat.

Hi mentalward I do love playing games like that as well. Im just a card type person. I will have to agree with you..since the gaming systems have become a household item there isn't much room for the board games or card games. Hubby has a game system as well and it is hard to get him to play card games or any game that isn't on the computer or system..LOL Keep smiling.

hi rosepedal64 oh my Rook we used to play that when I was growing up and now I do not even remember how it is played. the name however is most familiar to me. I know we used to play it for hours on end. My mom and grandpa also like pinochle and I could never get the hang of it. I loved to play scrabble although and chinese checkers too. I liked to play chess with my husband although he almost always bet me at it.Have a Wonderful New Year full of all things bright and beautiful. had to steal a line from a favorites hymn. lol

Hi Hatley It's good to hear from you again. Oh yeah I love to play scrabble too. I even have that game here. You have just given me a neat ideal. Maybe I can get the hubby to play a game of Scrabble this evening...LOL As far as the Rook goes I could play it every day and still wouldn't be enough..LOl I wish you the best for the upcoming year. Maybe it will be better for you as well. Keep smiling.

We occasionally play some around our house. The problem is often getting 4 players who all want to play at the same time, LOL. That's usually the main difficulty.

Well here in house it is just me and hubby. So if I can get him to play any games then I have to choose the ones that two players can play. Even with that it is rare to get him off the game system or the online games as well.LOL Keep smiling.

That's what also tends to keep me out of a game, .

I've heard of it, not sure if I ever played it. Actually it's been a long time since I played cards of any kind. I used to play hearts and spades and gin and many things. My parents even tried to teach me to play bridge!

I was never no good on Bridge. I have tried and tried to learn that but I just can't seem to get it..LOL Thanks for your thoughts. Hope that you have a great new year. Keep smiling dawn.

There are certain members of my family that enjoy playing the game, and I played it once or twice. I rather like to play spades more then anything though, and my husband and I will often play with our cousin a game or two, sometimes the game PAT. I also used to play BS, War, Go Fish, and UNO.

I've only played rook once or twice like I said above, and it's been awhile so I don't remember the rules. However, Spades is the highest suit in the game of spades, and the goal is to get the most books. If you've ever played Hearts, spades is the opposite of it. I'm sorry, i am terrible at explaining things.

Hi cowgirl. I have been told that spades to something like ROOK but I have never played spades so I really don't know. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Keep smiling.

Rook is a card game. You have a trump color and it takes 4 people to play. Each person gets 10 cards and then you bid on the 5 hidden cards in the middle. If you win the bid then you get the middle to build your hand with. Kinda hard to explain more than that on here. It is a very fun card game. I wasn't no good with chess and not too interested in learning how. Keep smiling.

I never learned to play this. I like one called "Hand and Foot" but it is a very long game. I do not get to play games very often, except with family. I think it is great that you got to play with friends.

My mother inlaw will call from time to time and ask if we want to come over and play some cards. Sometimes hubby just doesn't feel up to it and we don't get to go. So when I do Im like a little kid inside with a new toy...LOL Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Keep smiling.

I have not play Rook for over 40 years! This marks me as an old fuddy-duddy, but I like Canasta. Haven't played that in years either. Lately all the games I play are online. I like the puzzle games best followed closely by games such as Kritter-Krawler.

I haven't heard of Kritter...I play alot of games online as well. I tend to play them instead of doing my best on here. Shame on me. I need to be working harder than I do..LOL Thanks for sharing drannhh and have a good evening. Keep smiling.

That is another game that the inlaws play too. I just learned how to play it a couple of months ago. I will agree it is fun too. I just might suggest that the next time that we are over at the mother inlaws. Keep smiling missybear...

I am not too familiar with card games and I have not heard of ROOK. I used to play cards with my family but my mother is a terribly bad sport and gets very angry when she is on a losing streak so much so that I stopped playing because it ended up in an argument every time. We used to play the Italian game of ‘Scopa’; it has been so long I am not even sure I remember how to play! I may get back into card playing with my husband perhaps; the only game he and I aver played was ‘Chase the Ace’!

Yeah I know what you are saying. Hubby's sister is that way too. she gets so mad when she keeps losing and all of that. I don't like playing with her at all. I guess some people just can't accept that it is just a game... Keep smiling.
