Cilantro: Love it or hate it?

There is only one food I hate and that's celery. That was up until I made some fresh salsa with ingredients from my garden this past summer. I used onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro...and I had to throw it out :( I'd always been curious about cilantro but had never tried it before and I just have to say, I will never eat it again. It has a strong strange taste to me that I just can't compare with anything I've ever tasted. I know many people just love it but I can't stand it...how do you feel about cilantro?

I love Cilantro!! It has an awesome taste. Try some in a fresh salad, it adds such a different level to it. It is awesome in Salso or pico de gallo and is common in alot of mexican foods. I add it to my Tortilla soup and chipolte taco pie. Try it again, just add a little. A little goes a long way!

I will definitely give it another try and not use as much as I did in the salsa. Hopefully I can grow to like it because I think it does have a very interesting flavor and like you said, I can be used in so many things!

I love cilantro, but it is easy to overdo it in some dishes. Too much cilantro can ruin something. I normally make things without Cilantro because my kids don't like the taste of it. I had never tried it until a few years ago.

Hmmm....maybe I just used too much! My husband said it tasted like grass and my kids took one bite and wouldn't touch the salsa again!

It depends on the use, really. If it's overused, I find that it makes the food taste terrible. But if it's used in just the right way or portion, it's great. I do a grilled chicken or skirt steak that's marinated in a combination of lemon juice, lime juice and chopped cilantro for awhile before grilling. It's spectacular. But the cilantro is generally not on the meat after it's marinated, I take any leaves that are stuck on off of it. When I make fresh salsa, I use literally a couple of leaves of cilantro, that's it. A very little amount goes a long way. Just a side note, I work at a grocery store and whenever the new kids get cilantro or parsely and they aren't sure which one it is (one variety of parsley looks quite a bit like cilantro), I tell them to smell it. Cilantro smells like soap, parsley smells like grass (more or less).

renee I get sick every time i eat any food that has cilantro in it so am allergic to it .so I stay away from it altogether. I really do not like the taste of it any way and there are lots of other things you can use instead. its just really very strong and gross tasting to me.

Well I have to say I really love it. At first before I met my husband I never really tried it but he is from Mexico and I have tried so many new things and some I really like and some I don't. And I am so glad he is an excellent cook! And we take turns cooking and it is great. He has showed me many things but some I have to say are way to hard for me.

Oh you are so lucky to have a hubby from Mexico, I bet he makes some great food!!! I'm jealous that you have a hubby who cooks...mine just waits for me to make him supper...of course I wouldn't really want him in my kitchen anyway LOL. I just don't think there's any way I could ever like cilantro but I might give it just once more chance!!

Hello renee, no wonder you hate it. I think no body will eat cilantro alone as food or vegetable because of its very strong, kind of peculiar flavor, it can be used in small quantity to enhance flavor in items like salsa. Thank you so much. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . God bless you. Welcome always.
