In just few more hours we will be welcoming another year and yet many are not very excited about it. Why? To many people, after the initial crowd euphoria and wishes for a good New Year... the next thought in their mind is what's next or so new about it? Of course, the new calender year is just a continuation of the old, albiet with new forecasts by astrologers, feng shui masters and all the so called experts. But, for each one of us what is the reality? First thought...aging, expenses, added responsibilities and carrying on as normal. There's so much excitement and fuss everytime we welcome another year but is it any different from the last? Yes, to welcome in the New Year we get to enjoy a day's holiday, spend time with the family, watch the fireworks, have a gay time and then life goes back to the way it was. What's really new about the new year other than getting older and making sure that you get the dates right or your cheque may bounce! It is so clique to make resolutions, especially knowing deep down in your heart that you are most likely to fulfill less than even half of it. Some may just get off to a great start with their resolution only to give up after a week or two. So much for resolutions. Frankly, I have never subscribed to the idea of it, as I am one of those who believe in going with the flow. In other words, I don't want to have to 'eat my words' and give myself a good smack for not fulfilling any of the resolutions. We all hope for positive happenings with the turn of the year. Our lives depend on some extend on roulette of luck and goodwill but we need to build on these with hard work and wisdom. We welcome new year with hope and pray for peace, goodwill and prosperity for all. Let's build on our experiences and strengths to ensure success in our undertakings. Let's work hard and hope for the best. No one really knows what can they really expect in the year 2010. Will it be filled with success, opportunities or even increased burdens and responsibilities?

Keep our fingers crossed as time will tell whether the new year brings us joy or more miseries especially in the employment world.

The fireworks is usually the grand opening of the new year every where. The sky suddenly becomes bright for few minutes soon after midnight and everyone is wide awake and some will have barbeque in their homes. I think everywhere is experiencing unemployment and hopefully the economic situation will improve in this new year.

I don't understand why the most progressive nation in this planet where many consider as the land of golden opportunities still have her citizens feeling burdened and suppressed miseries. It is not surprising if it happened in the third world where we are still much under-developed. There must be a loophole somewhere in the administration of your nation which see it almost parallel to people in the third world. Pray that God give more wisdom to your new president and to salvage the worsening economy of the nation and for the dwindling supply of jobs in the employment sectors. All developing nations look up to US as the leader in the economic planning of the world.

One thing we know for sure is that life will continue to be filled with lessons that can help us grow if we accept them and the learning they will bring. Happy New Year

What ever happened in the past year should be a lesson learned. And we should step in the new year wiser.

I for one do not treat the beginning of a new year any differently than I treat the beginning of a new week or a new month. I have learned that if I want my circumstances to change, then I have to change. The economy has been hit hard this past year, and that reflects on many of our lives and lifestyles. But yet we still have to assume some of the responsibilities of making whatever changes in our lives are neccesary to help us lead happy and fulfilling days. We all want many of the same things - good health, a fair wage, a new job, or whatever we personally deem important. But, it is not going to happen for us by merely wishing and hoping; it will only happen by doing.

We live in a materialistic world and nothing comes free. We should put our efforts to make our wishes come true.

To me the coming of 2010 brings hope and that I really look forward to a brighter day. I've been sad all through my life, but in the end of 2009 something great happened to me out of luck, and it is very 'happening', it wakes me up from a nightmare and acts like a life saver. Something which promises a secured future, I can say that. I am relieved that I found it, and this can't happen without a help from a friend in mylot. I can't remember his name now, but I think I can track him back if I take my time to screen through all the discussions I took part in. Whoever he is, I thank him very much and to you, the discussion starter, I also wish you all the best and may your life be blessed until the end.

Yes. I always set expectations for myself for the new year but hardly ever carry through with anything when it comes to myself. I am always too busy doing for everyone else. That needs to change. I hope 2010 is a good one for me.

Hi Zandi! Very well explained about the arrival of New Year. It undoubtedly happens after every twelve months and we being optimistic people look forward to the word 'New' in the hope that it will bring some unforeseen pleasures for us. I also do not make any kind of resolutions, because I know that sometimes, it gets difficult to fulfill the same. The arrival of New Year has been happening in the past and will continue in the future also and we will always welcome the Next year with excitement and elation. Have a great New Year to you! Deepak

It's nice to welcome in the new year and it's nice to make some new goals and think about things you would like to achieve. I have a few plans myself but whether they come true or not is another matter. I also think that there are many people that live in a habit of routine and rarely move away from this routine and so this moves from the old year into the new year. I don't think there's anything wrong with this as it's everyone's individual choice as regards what they want to do with their life. I'm not sure that anyone can entirely reach full fulfilment, we can only make ourselves happier and contend by doing what we enjoy doing. I'm looking forward to the new year and I will make the best of it. I may even pray for the odd miracle here and there! I sincerely hope that I do start to experience more opportunities and I'm slowly working on making my life better but this is no easy task! Andrew

Hi Andrew...life is so uncertain. What is planned ahead of time might not turn out to our expectations. We can only pray and hope that everything falls perfectly in our life. What is important is the present and let tomorrow takes care of itself.

I like the idea of a fresh start at the beginning of a new year but I have to agree that it is only another day. I live my life taking one day at a time and, although I do have longer term goals and plans I don’t think too much ahead. I like to believe that we are given the gift of a new start every single day. I am not into New Year resolutions because they rarely work; too much pressure perhaps...

Every beginning of the year gives us something to ponder what new resolutions should we make for the new year but more often resolutions are only made without even fulfilling any of the resolutions. It is better to just go with the flow. Less stress and no pressure when we free our mind of any new year's resolution.

Hi Zandi, as for me, New year is just means that we are going through and begin another year. Besides that, we should be thankful that we are still healthy and fine throughout this whole year. Anyway, just hope this coming new year will bring more improvement to my online earning, while gaining some new friends as well. I will like usual, having a dinner to celebrate it with my family members. And spending time watching the fireworks from our home, which is quite nearby, so not necessary to join the crowd. Anyway, everyone of us will have a different way to welcome the New Year, so Happy New Year to All of you, in Mylot.

Hi myfb, not much difference in celebrating the new year in my place except that we usually take a shower when the clock strike 12.01am. It is no ordinary pipe water but with some kind of nice smelling herbs to welcome the new year.
