Ghost Writing

I just started earning money online, and have been testing out various sites for about three weeks. On one, I had the opportunity to get paid for a review, which would be used on a site I knew nothing about, as the work of an author I also knew nothing about. I should mention I also hadn't really thought about where my review was going, nor what it would be used for. Yesterday I was searching for the webpage to the grocer I wrote a review on. I ended up finding my review. I admit I had mixed feelings. It was cool to see my work being utilized, but at the same time it was odd to see someone else's name beside it. Has anyone else ever had this occur? How did you feel?

i've done a little bit of ghost writing although i have not seen where the stuff ended up. i can understand this feeling a bit odd. anyway if it is just burble then i don't care, and in fact would rather my name was not beside it. if it was something i'd put effort into and thought was good then i probably wouldn't sell it to a ghost writing site anyway.

To be honest, I didn't think about where it was going. I was on mturk, which provides a lot of different jobs, and the description simply asks you to write a review. I figured someone would be using it somewhere, but I never ever expected to see it again. Truth be told, because I am modest, I assumed it wouldn't be deemed good enough to represent a site. So when I stumbled on it I was flattered and freaked out. I don't know if ghost writing for someone I don't know is for me. There are certain places I simply do not want my writing used to promote. Ghost writing for someone I have established a relationship with, is different. As for submitting garble for money, I haven't been able to do this. I decided that since the point of attempting to earn money online is for me to do something I like to do and get paid I only write about things I'm into or things that inspire me to put decent effort into. That way I don't feel like I am working. I certainly would never submit anything that holds great significance, however I am now wondering if all my writing is significant to me.

i think perhaps ghost writing is not altogether the erm right writing career for you, although there is a bit of cash in it. as for me i will not write about something that i am not interested in at all, something that i do not believe or something i suspect will be used in a way i do not approve of. that said i can knock off burble quickly and it is not very significant to me.

I do mturk work, too, but I have to ask myself when some of the hits come up, how much is my integrity worth? I won't lie or misrepresent things. I won't write about something I know nothing about, pretending that I do. I don't like to be asked to place a vote for something so someone can win a contest if they don't deserve it. I will write and share my knowledge or experience if I can be helpful and maybe guide people in the right direction. This is my take on it. Your mileage may vary.

I have been ghost writing for a couple of months and don't mind it at all. If I have something really important or am passionate about then I will submit it on some other site so I can get the credit for it. If it is just some ordinary article, then I don't mind someone else getting the credit. I really need the money and writing is my passion so I will do whatever I can to write good articles whether I get the credit or not. If it really does bother you, then I would suggest that you only submit your articles to sites where you get the credit for them. You have to be happy with your decision or writing just isn't fun.

I meant to say that if you're not happy with your decision, then writing won't seem fun to you like it is now.

hi! first off, welcome to mylot! i know you'll enjoy your stay here. about the topic on hand, i did some ghostwriting before but it was for a website of a non-government organization. the content editor knows some people in publishing as well so i got to see some of my articles published in magazines and newspapers but attached to a different name. agree that it felt weird at first but as soon as the checks came in with a good deal of amount written down, i felt fine. only problem i have is if i don't get paid properly with my work. it happened once but the content editor got flak for it so that was that. i really want to have a similar writing gig but not sure if i can pull it off with my schedule but hopefully something similar comes along, something that i can fit in my schedule. cheers!!!

Hey Allen, I don't know if it was someone here, or the woman at the bookstore where I hung out a couple days ago that said I could think of the other name as a pen name. However I kept thinking but its a name I didn't get to choose, and it was pretty sucky, lol. When you ghostwrite can you use that work in a portfolio? How does that work?

Ooh! That would hurt me a bit. :) I too saw my work, and my ideas lifted. :) I also felt flattered to see my work worth being copied! Mixed bag of emotions. In office environment, when such things happen, and they do, we hurt more because somebody walks away with our credits! But here, we tend to be resigned to our fate, isn't it? After all, we knew what we were doing, and we did get paid for it. So it all boils down to that. We received our dues. :)

This case is a bit different. On the one hand I knew the work would be used, I just didn't realize that it would be credited to someone else. I don't think I would have been as shocked if the job specified this. However I did not. I have had someone plagerize my work before. They used something I'd written for them as a gift to get credit in a class. I wasn't upset that they plagerized my work, I was upset that they took something personal and aired it as if it meant nothing to them... needless to say me and that person do not talk anymore, lol!

Hi there, If you get paid by that website then it is correct but without paying you a single buck if that website took your article then you could have gone legally, but for earning money it is n't wrong to contribute our knowledge you know, we are giving our ideas and we are getting paid for our work that's it.

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with contributing ideas for pay. I guess I feel somewhat mislead. At least it taught me a valuable lesson, and I can be mindful of such things in the future.

It's definitely an odd feeling when you see your work under someone else's name; I'm not sure it's something you ever get used to. In one way, it's not much different than writing under a pseudonym - no one but you knows who the writer really is. But as a ghost writer, of course, you have basically no control over what's done with your work once you hand it over. That's the part that always gives me a strange feeling. What if I've written this article for someone who puts it on a website I would hate to be associated with? (Not grammatically correct, but hopefully you get the idea.) But if you're interested in writing online, there are quite a few places that you can write under your own name, on topics that really interest you. I don't want to just post a bunch of referral links on your discussion (and I don't want to just randomly troll for referrals LOL), but if you're interested, let me know.

Hey There Angie, I think your post pretty much capitalizes on my feelings. I was worried at first that this was an ego issue, that it was important that people knew I was the one who'd written something. However its about what the work is used for. I would be devestated if, as you stated, it was used to represent something I was completely against. I would love to get that list of sites. I am sending you a friend invite.

First of all what is ghost writing. Earning money on the internet has become a great source of income for many individuals. I believe that internet has revolutionized the media pretty much. Well yes it is a mixed when you know someone else is using your piece of work. But that is how freelancing works.

That's not a question, it's a statement right? At the time I did the assignment I didn't really realize that I was ghost writing. That's my own fault for not thinking it through. I actually thought I was being asked to submit a review which would either be tagged under my name or as anynomous, I realize my original post does not clarify this too well. It wasn't until I discovered my work online did I realize that it would be tagged as someone else's work.

Have not seen anything loke that so far, but it must happen.
