Every year almost a million people gathered in New york to watch the ball drop in the new year eve. This year the weather will be bad. Tomorrow in the new year eve it would be snowing and raining, and the temperature will be bellow 0 degree; people would be freezing there. Do you think it would be fun to go there to watch the ball drop? What are you doing in the new year eve?

I guess it would be cool to have the experience of actually being there. Once. But I actually pefer a quiet New Years eve and watching the ball drop from the warmth of my own living room, cup of good coffee in hand and dog curled up at my feet. This year my husband will be bringing in the new year an hour ahead of me as he is working in Trinidad, this will be our first New Years apart in 20 years.

ooo you guys would be missing each other in new year. I also prefer to be at home or doing a nice party with close friends and family, rather than going out in the freezing cold.

As I hate crowds and don't like to be around people then for me this would sound like pure hell! I shall be safely inside in the warm and will switch the television on about ten minutes to midnight, it's strange that some countries at this time will already be in the new year whilst others will be behind us in the time! I have never really gone out to celebrate New Year to be honest, I will see the new year in but other than that it's no big deal, apart from being a year older and a year closer to the grave.

I think it would be fun to do at least once. Though I will admit I love seeing fireworks and when I was younger all my New Years were in the height of summer which is fun, there are parities, fireworks and greeting the New Year at the beach listening to the waves. Going outside is not a chore it is sometimes better then staying home in a stuffy hot house. For the past few years I have spent New Year with cold weather, it nearly always rains so firework displays are often cancelled, it can be fun but it's totally different feel.

I agree, fire works are so much fun to watch. I really enjoy fireworks no matter it is new year or 4th July.

Well, people in New York are really accustom to bad winters ,so is probably normal for them to go there and celebrate ,but for me it would be a sacrifice to go to a place to freeze myself. Ha Ha!

We are also accustomed with real freezing weather, but still I don't like to go out in freezing cold.

Hi Sweetlady,I don't get any thrill on watching the ball drop on tv but I think just being in NY with all those people and all the entertainment would be a great time. If it is below zero, I'm not so sure. I don't do the cold well.

I know it would not be fun at all to go out there with all those snow and rain in freezing cold.

Its a new year eve. So,you may go and have fun over there with your family and friends, without taking the bad weather into consideration.. After all, you will be getting this opportunity to watch this particular event after one year. This year I will be celebrating this day by partying with my friends.

For me freezing outside is not something which will make me excited, I can't enjoy like that. Rather I will watch it in TV.

There was a time when I would have been excited if I could have gone to time square to watch the new year come in. When I was young i lived with my grandparents and thought they were such old fuddy duddies for not wanting to stay up to see the new year in. but something happened. I got old too and probably won't stay up to chase off the old year and welcome in the new one. that bed is by far too comfy and inviting at that time of night. I also don't like fighting crowds or getting cold any more.

I don't blame you, in this cold weather bed is the best place to be to stay warm. I am also not for crowded environment to welcome the new year, I like to be with my husband and very close family and friends.

Not even a little bit!! My husband are going to go next door to the veterans club for a drink and a little bit of a party, ring in the new year, and come home. I am not interested in being anywhere where there is a big crowd, nor do I want to be around a lot of noise. the ANAF where we are going is small, we know everyone, and it's located right next to our apartment! :)

I hear you danish. I also don't like noise and place full of strangers to celebrate new year. rather we would celebrate at home with very close family and friends.

I suppose I am in the minority, but I don't think that being in Times Square to watch the ball drop on New Year's Eve sounds fun. I imagine being shoulder-to-shoulder with too many people for comfort and having my toes, fingers, nose and ears being numb from the cold! I would also likley be a bit nervous about the possiblity of violence erupting. Whenever there are that many people in one spot, the chance for some tension between people is certain. I can't imagine trying to make my way back to my hotel in the crowd after the dropping of the ball. I think I would rather watch from a television by the comfort of my fireplace or with friends!

I have not seen it nor heard of it. However, I am sure I would not make a trip there unless there is some spectacular performance. furthermore, in the rain.

I do think this would be fun. I think this year it would be to cold. I watched a New Years special on the internet and spend my New Year praising God. Have a great New Year.

Hi, sweetlady10. Can they have it set up where people can watch the ball drop inside? That way they can still see it and be warm at the same time. This does sound very exciting. I would rather just stay inside where it is warm at. I am just going to be home on New Year's. I don't have any plans. I am planning on staying home this year.

I think it would be good to see the ball drop inside, hope they can think about that from next year. We are also not going anywhere as weather is not good at all this year.

No I would not go and watch the ball drop on new year eve. I rather watch it on tv at home where I am warm and it is not over crowded. It is just as exciting to me watch it on my tv as being there is person.

Hi Sweetlady, So how's the new year in new york? was it full of fun despite the freezing point weather? i am sure it was still a hit and full of fun despite the super cold weather. sad to say we don't have snow here in the philippines. we only have cold breeze and some fireworks to welcome the new year. it was fun too especially that we celebrated it with our family. we had new year's eve dinner together!

I had to respond to this discussion because that's exactly how we spent last New Years in New York. Well, instead of braving those monstrous crowds to watch the ball drop, we were on the rooftop of our building and watching it from there. It was quite special I have to say, and made sure to take lots of photos. But anyway we spent most of our New Years at this posh party and would venture outside close to midnight to watch the ball drop. And yes it was friggin freezing!! I'll never forget how cold it was, I was all layered like a snowman and was still freezing! Still it is a moment in life that you have to do and are never likely to forget.

Yup! That is fun because this is a kind of celebration that almost all people of the world want to have bonding together and enjoy the coming of new year and celebrate life...Happy new year!!!

I watch them on tv. I don't think it's fun waiting for the ball to drop especially when your in that bad weather. I would rather stay home, keep myself warm, and watch it on tv. I guess some people just like the experience of actually being there witnessing the event, maybe it's something special to them. I don't think they are just watching the ball to drop, I think they are watching the celebrity singers perform too, it's just convenient for them to be there to see all the action going on.

Being out in the freezing cold or the rain is not my idea of fun. I don't like crowds either. I was never a big fan of New Years Eve to begin with. It always seems people are determined to have a good time and drink too much. My city has a celebration, they call it First Night, and I would never go there either. I usually go to a movie or something, this year I'll just stay warm at home and watch all the drunks on TV.
