Cold turkey

I just officially quit smoking yesterday at 2:30 p.m, new years eve, and cold turkey is not sounding like the best idea right now. So when i get a craving i've been snacking, fortunatley for me it's only been for one day. Is there anyone who can help me win this war against smoking? I will take any advice as long as it doesn't mean using pills or patches, I'm trying to rid my body of chemicals right now. I've been smoking for 14 years and I really want to kick the habit, so please anyone, everyone, I could use your help. I figure better to ask now before it gets really bad. So suggestions, ideas, comments, anything will help. Let me know what you know, or think would help me on my quest to quit smoking.

Quitting cold turkey has it's pros and cons. I'm not a smoker, never have been, but i have friends that are and have quit, and are trying to quit. Personally i would not go cold turkey, you got to give your body time to adjust to the changes your making, i would suggest cutting back on half of what you normally smoke, and keep cutting back every week, that way your body can adjust. and if you are really serious about quiting, then you should have the will power to do so. Pick up an small habit like chew gum when you feel like have a smoke, or something small like that, that wouldn't be addicting. I hope i helped a little :)

Any suggestions are considered most helpfull, however i have tried the whole cutting back first but it just leads to more smoking. so far so good, i am currently at 32 hours and 29 mins cold turkey. I'm not really a big fan of gum chewing. Maybe i will try one of those stress ball sqeezer things.

Good luck to you! I'm a smoker, and I've tried to quit smoking a couple of times cold turkey. I was back to my cigs within a day! I am planning to quit smoking soon, but I will probably try the nicotine gum next time. If it get real bad, maybe you should consider using something like the gum, the lozenges, or the patches. I'm a little nervous about using Zyban or Chantix, as I've heard there are some potentially bad side effect. Good luck.

congratulations!i know it must be hard to quit after so many years so i hope you succeed. the thing is to keep your hands and mind busy. try lollipops, fruit, crafts, blogging, gum, walks, anything.don't snack after6p.m. that's when you really start putting weight on.busy, busy, busy and to relax at night, make a cup of chamomile tea.soothes the nerves. good luck!

Withdrawal stage is the hardest part of quitting smoking. I dont remember right if I saw it on TV or read about it that there is a part in our brain that controls craving and only if we can do something to that part that controls the craving well quitting smoking would not be that hard. Have you heard of this technology?

Hi.I smoked for 23 years and managed to stop 5 years ago. It is the hardest thing you will ever do and not wanting to use patches etc will make it tougher. But you can use every aid under the sun and if you don't want to quit mentally it won't happen. So if you really want to quit try using a stress ball as already mentioned and perhaps use a visulisation aid. Every day mentally visualise how many ciggies you didn't smoke that day and visualise how big a pile you have not sucked into your lungs. If you were a heavy smoker like I was the stack of smokes you visualise will grow quickly and you will a) be amazed at how many smokes you used to smoke and b) feel proud at your suberb achievement. Goodluck :)

It's not hard to quit smoking dude, I've done it 100-times. LOL! Hehe, seriously dude it's not that hard. I, myself also an ex-smoker and it is true that i've tried many times before to quit this habit before i finally succeeded. For me, the key is to drink a lot of WATER!. During the first week of my own "personal battle", I drank more than 7-litre a day. Each time i thought of smoking, i went to the kitchen and drink a bottle of plain mineral water. (Sometimes I even puke!).It was a bitter experience indeed but after a while, i began think less of smoking. I've been free from smoke for 2-years now, and it's all thanks to the cheapest yet tasteless beverages the world had ever known. Mineral Water! LOL

Wow, good for you!!! You should except the fact that you will put on weight at first, just like a pregnant woman after giving birth. I will say this much to help you out and that is you need to do this. Not just for you but for those around you. And even for me! You can and will be my inspiration and I will be your support for I too need to quit. I told myself that I would quit this year. But I have not committed yet. We need to be honest with ourselves. I am not ready. I have been smoking for 31 years. So here goes, you stay clean for 30 days I pledge to stop 30 days from now. By you stopping you could save two lives mine and yours. What do you say? Deal or no Deal?

First of all I want to congratulate you on quitting! I am a smoker and it has been a long time since I quit cold turkey on my on and it was very difficult I guess you just have to have string will power that is what worked for me before.Maybe you can chew some sugar free gum, go for walks, try to read a book or things like that. Well Good Luck and Happy New Years to you.

...Hi there mc23tlob, You are very smart to decide to quit smoking. It is totally something that destroys you over time. I wish you well and great success. Don't give up if you revert, keep trying. Ask anyone who has stopped smoking, they keep trying an finally succeed. If you would, go to a health food store and get something called DGL, chewable licorice extract. This supplement will help to reduce the nicotine in your system, which will help you in your ability to stop smoking. Don't give up. May 2010 be good to you and your family. Also try drinking hot boiled water, with a little bit of lemon, this will wash some of the toxins away as well. Take care.
