Do you ever go to dollar theaters?

Does your town have a theater that plays new movies a little after the regular theaters stop playing them, and only charge a dollor or two for admission? In the places I have lived, there have always been a couple. I really like going to them, I don't mind waiting a couple weeks to watch a movie (unless its something I really, really, really want to see). It seems like the ticket prices at big/chain movie theaters just keeps going up. When I first started seeing movies with no adults an just friends- around 2002- the price for one adult ticket was $4, now it's like $10! I just went to see The Fantastic Mr. Fox at the two-dollar theater where I live today (it was a GREAT movie, by the way).

It's been a while since I've gone to a movie. The town I live in changed one of their regular theaters to a $2 theater. I was overjoyed that I would be able to see a movie and not go broke. Draw back - concessions are still priced high and the theater is in desperate need of a major cleaning. Can the theater not be clean just because they aren't charging as much? I can rent the movie that is in the cheaper theater at the same time, be in the comfort and cleanliness of my own home, and not be charged $5 for a drink.

Oh yeah, I go to school in near Lexington, KY, and the dollar theater is probably my main source of entertainment. Once last year, I took my girlfriend out to see a movie. I paid for both of our tickets, and when the movie was over, we decided to see another. I bought both of those tickets as well, and my expenses for the day totaled 6 dollars. It was a thing of beauty.

When i was younger, we lived near one - or at least, it was one bus ride. So my friends and i would occasionally go. Now, the nearest dollar theatre would just take too long to get to. we usually just wait for a movie to come out on DVD.

There are two of them in two towns near mine, they are about about a 25 minute drive away, and are both really old theaters but it is worth the drive to save money especiallly for a family of 5. One is like $3.00 to get in and the other one is $4.00 but they also give you these punch cards and every 8th movie on the punch card is free. So with a family of 5 we get a free movie every other time we go which is nice.

Yes! Well, they're $3 movie theaters, but just as well, that's pretty cheap isn't it? I love them so much more than normal theaters. We have a few in our area. They're not usually crowded, the price is.. unbeatable, and.. it's just a better situation. You never have to worry about the movie being sold out. You never usually have to wait in a line. It's lovely! The only downside is the one that you mentioned, that you have to wait a little while longer to see the movies because it takes them a while to get them. But I can deal with that! lol!

While I like the price, the uncleanliness of these theaters is appalling. Normal full price theaters are filthy too but the dollar shows are way worse. I can't stand that they are a huge hangout for teenagers too. So it is filthy and full of rogue teenagers. So no I have not gone to a dollar theater in like 12-15 years. I would rather rent the movie or watch it on demand from the comfort of my own home for the same price.

I have yet to go to a dollar theater where I live. I have of heard of them and I had friends who have gone to dollar theaters that were outside the city. If there was one in the city I would definitely wait on movie I want to see. We are suppose to go see Avatar later today and tickets like you said will cost around 10 which sucks and don't forget the popcorn, nachos, icees, etc. I am going to try to convince my husband that we should just eat at the mall and not at the theater but knowing him, he will want the nachos lol.

In my town the best theaters charge about $3 (Rs.150)for most shows. However, these theaters charge only about a dollar for the morning shows on weekdays. The shows start at around 10 in the morning which is a bit difficult for most of the people, but we make our own time and watch the movies at cheap rates. The facilities are the same but rates low. What more can you expect?
