I usually walk. If nothing else I feel like I have accomplished something during the day if I walk around my neighborhood or go to the park or green belt. Well, it has just gotten too cold. And today it was raining cats and dogs.(poor little dudes!)So, how do I motivate myself to get after it indoors? I tried the gym and it is too crowded for my anxiety ridden psche to take. How do I do 10,000 steps in this rain? I hate to do exercises inside! What's a girl to do?? Any ideas?

Hey celtic! I wish I was motivated to even think about getting some sort of exercise! I have a "Power Rider" sitting in my livingroom collecting dust! If I have my boyfriend move it back to the middle of the room and don't use it he will have a fit! I have gained a few pounds over the holidays and really need to do something! I can't walk either because it is really cold now here and it is either raining or snowing! But, with me it's more about motivation! I am so damn lazy! If I could just sit here at the computer or watch tv in bed I'd be fine! I must be part bear or something! I could stay in all winter and come out in the spring!

LOL--it was REAL cold here today too, but I had spent Thursday and Friday home and two days in a row of staying home drives me daft...no matter what the weather I have to get out..two days of staying home seems to be my tolerance level. Anyway did have to go out to get some cat food and litter (heaven forbid my cats are deprived..heehee). As for what kind of exercise is good indoors? I do a tad bit of yoga but believe it or not what is real good exercise is simply cleaning around the house..I know doesn't sound very exciting, but one can really burn the calories in simple cleaning chores, like cleaning the floor, vacuuming. I just hauled two big bags of garbage one at a time down four flights of stairs (oh what fun) and believe me that is a workout in itself...pumping iron by lifting the garbage (and my garbage seems to feel like it has cement bricks in it) then a good cardiovascular workout just by walking up and down those steps--need to haul out more tomorrow too...

Our cats are the same way. Can't be deprived or they go GaGa. Oh, yes. Tomorrow is vaccuming day. Bending down to do stuff is great! I think you are right. We have stairs too. Thanks for the ideas.

If you liked to exercise indoors then Mall walking or dancing to music in your house would be the answer. I love dancing to music. I could walk 10,000 steps to music indoors any day. But since you want to walk outdoors, Dress with more layers and an umbrella or a raincoat and hat. If you liked walking with a friend, I would say walk with a friend, but since people cause you anxiety, that's probably out. I have a small store nearby. When we run out of something, I walk there. Lack of toilet tissue or something to drink is very motivational. Our post office isn't very far, so running out of stamps is motivational. Our Credit Union is walking distance. When my car breaks down, that motivates me to have to walk to go get it. A big one for me is noticing nature. What are the birds doing, the flowers doing, the trees, really see what other people are missing. Is every tree gree or are some blue-green or green with some blue needles? Are there white trees like birch, etc.? Exercise is an anti-depressant. So keep saying, "Exercise is an anti-depressant and I want to be happy." over and over and over again. Hope something I write or something someone else writes works. Spring or summer are when most people start exercise programs outdoors, then you and your body get used to different weather and when the weather starts to get bad, can keep it up much better than starting in bad weather, so you're starting at a rough time. Is there a pergola or a place where you can walk that is both outdoors and in? At some of our parks, we have poles with a roof on top. You're outdoors, but sheltered in the rain. I would drive to one of those and walk. Take care and hope you're able to KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! You can do it

Dance! Well it's an indoor activity and one you can do whilst accomplishing other things. I wouldn't recommend trying it while mylotting, but you could shake your booty while your cleaning, or while your getting ready for a shower, or nice relaxing bath, you can dance while your getting the mail or paper (though neighbors might wonder)... Sry that's the only thing I can think of, lol.

There are people in my area that will go to the mall and walk when it's winter time. That's where I would probably go. It's not that crowded in the morning either.

I have done that. My girlfriend and I go occasionally but it is clear across town. And I am not into people. Panic attacks and anxiety is not fun. I get those when there alot of people or sometimes even when there are afew. Thank you for your input.

That is exactly what we did this afternoon! I put on a Elton John CD and danced to it. My grandson even got up and danced alittle. Fun. Thanks.
