I has never had to file an insurance claim until this past week. We had the worst wind gusts that I have ever seen here. There were shingles on my roof sticking up and there were some in the yard. I'm not the only one either because my neighbors roof looked rough too..lol. I called to file the claim and they said that they were covered up with these claims from my area. They would be a little late getting an adjuster out. They asked that I done temporary repair and that they would reimburse me. I don't know how all this works..lol..I guess I'm about to learn but what about you? Have you ever had to file an insurance claim? Any advice? It can be an insurance claim on anything..car..house..whatever..I am anxious to hear your stories.

Happy new year Jen, i have had to file a few clains w/ insurance & have always found it to be a hassle. I hope u don't have a problem w/them. They have always acted to me like the money is their's instead of yours. I had a fire in the fuse box when i had the big store & i thought i was going to have to whip the adjustor over it. I hope u don't have any trouble w/yours but will be surprised if u don't. good luck.

Happy New Year Jo!!! Heads up! I am planning a little trip to Nashville this month. Kind of a getaway for me and the b/f. We are going to come and spend a weekend there and hear a band that we like that plays somewhere there frequently. I am not above a good whipping for an adjuster Jo. Should I go ahead and get some estimates before he gets here just so I have a good idea what I should be paid?

Sounds like a good trip, Jen. I hope y'all have a real big time. i definitely would get some estimates before i had to deal w/the adjustor, That will save u some time because that'sprobably going to be the first thing he tell u to do. Hang in there w/them sunshine, they will intimadate u if they can.

hey jen hope you had a good chrissy and new yr. yep we've had a number of times for the car, on hitting kangaroos. i just phone up tell them what happened, and they sort the rest out, then we pick the repair business and it goes from there. never had any trouble till last time, when the where the part came from stuffed up and sent up the wrong bumper for the car. wasn't realised till it was going on the car that it was the wrong one. then the other company tried to say it was the right one, when it wasn't. either way our repairer hanled it all for us. thing was it then puts up our green slip in cost each yr, then i have to get lowered again. hope it all goes well for you.

I did have great holidays..thank you..I hope you did as well. Hit kangeroos! Wow..we just have deer to worry about in this area. They can total a car out. I bet a kangeroo could too. I wonder if house insurance goes up when you file a claim on it too? Hmmm. Thanks for the response.

I have had to file afew insurance claims. Funny story. Someone broke into my car to steal my rear view mirror. I had to file an insurance form on that. I just called them. Not any problems. Then there was my medical insurance form when I got sick in 2006. Alot of paper work and explanation. Phone calls and getting on my nurse practitioner to get something accomplished so I could keep my sick leave in place. She was a real piece of work! That was no fun at all. You have to keep on it. I think each situation and company is different. I will say here that Geico has been wonder to me and I would definitely reccomend them to anyone!

It used to be that that was definitely the case and what a headache. But now with computers and easier navigation and communication it isn't quite the case anymore. And, again, each company seemed to be different. Good luck in it all.

I have heard that there is always a lot of paperwork involved with claims. I got into a wreck years ago when a guy rearended me while I was waiting to turn into a business. My car was totaled. His insurance paid for everything so the only thing I really had to deal with was getting a police report.

Do you have any advice as to what would make it easier for me or is there anything I should watch out for? Do I need estimates or do I just let them handle it? Were they good about paying you? Thanks for responding.

I have done this a couple of times and my Insurance Company always made it easy for me and came up with the money to do the repairs promptly. I have never made a claim during a time that many others were being made in my area, only when we had individual problems.

Hi savypat! I am hoping I won't have to wait to long for them to get an adjuster out here. I am going to put a tarp on there today because that's what the insurance guy suggested to do until the adjusters could get here. Thanks for the response.

I’ve filed insurance claims before, the majority being motor vehicle (LOL!) On a couple of occasions we’ve had fences come down due to storms and we called the insurance office. Because it has never been a huge claim the insurance company is generally happy to deal with it over the phone; they usually want a couple of quotes and they will choose one and give you the go ahead and from there a cheque will be sent out for the amount claimable. For the car it is easier to obtain two quotes, take the car to the insurance’s office and they will approve which quote they prefer. It hasn’t been too bad except doing without my car while they fix it!

I can see how doing without your ride would be the worst part. I hope my claim isn't serious enough to cause a big hassle but to be honest, I think I may need new roofing. Hopefully they won't give me to much trouble..but they still haven't came out yet and we are supposed to get snow on Thursday. Thanks for the input.

I have never had to file an insurance claim because of damage done to my house but I have filed because of someone breaking in and stealing stuff. I have had three break ins in a matter of a year so I eventually sold my house and bought another one in a better area. But then I had another break in in my new house so it doesn't matte where you live, if someone wants to break in and steal stuff they are going to. So, yes I have put in insurance claims and received money for the things stolen each time but what a hassle. I certainly simpisize with you. I bet it is even harder now to make a claim. I haven't had to make one for about 15 years now and it was a hassle then and I'm told it's even harder now.

Hi chrislotz! How are you doing these days? I hope you have been doing ok. It's a shame that you've had so much taken from you. I bet it was extremly frustrating. I would have up and moved to but you are right..it doesn't really matter where you move to..it may still happen. I'm hoping it's not going to be to much hassle. I'm glad it's been 15 years for you now since you've had to fool with it. Thanks for responding.

I've never had to file a homeowner's claim. The last time I had to file a claim for an auto accident was back in the 80's. They were very helpful, especially since it wasn't my fault. Of course, back then they didn't automatically raise your premium when you had a claim either. Any advice, just don't let them talk you into anything you're uncomfortable with without checking it out first.

Thanks Dawn! I will have to stay on my toes. I wonder if they raise your home owners premiums too? Thanks for responding.

i once had to claim for my car that was destroyed by a kid pulling out of a driveway years ago and hitting me. my car was so old but still a good running car and i really needed it. they would only pay blue book ,therefore i couldnt even buy another with what they gave me so i hope you have a lot better luck with your claim.

It very very very importanat that you have insurance on your house or car or even if you only rent a house because that way you got everything cover if for your lost and you got a year to claim and make sure you get to the adjuster as soon as possible don't wait even if they say you don't have claim still see what they can do I wish you all the best of luck.... cd

I agree that when we need it, it can be very important. I think it is actually against the law not to have it. I didn't know you had a year to file the claim though. I figured you had to file it asap. Thanks for the input.

It is a law here that you have to carry insurance on certain things such as a car or a house. It can run into a lot of money especially if you never need it. Thanks or the response.

I've had to file insurance claims on my car whenever I had a wreck but not on my house. I used to have Geico. However, I went to work as a delivery driver for Papa John's Pizza one time and they cancelled my policy because I was using it in a business. That doesn't make sense, does it? You have to have a commercial policy if you use your car delivering pizzas or whatever. I was trying to get on social security at the time and my lawyer advised me to quit working, anyway, because it might affect the decision as to whether I should have social security or not. They check every little nook and cranny to see if you have any money. I wasn't awarded social security but I was awarded SSI. My lawyer said it was because I hadn't worked long enough to qualify for social security. It's just a big mess! I didn't mean to get off the subject but that's my experience with car insurance. I have my car insurance with my brother-in-law now, who is an insurance agent. Kathy.

That doesn't maek sense since it is for another company. I could see it if it were your business but it also seems like Papa John's would have to provide the needed coverage. Sounds like you have been in a mess. Sometimes it works out a lot better to have someone on the "inside" helping you with needs like insurance. Thanks for responding and take care.
